[1 Chronicles 23:4-5 NKJV] 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand [were] to look after the work of the house of the LORD, six thousand [were] officers and judges, 5 four thousand [were] gatekeepers, and four thousand praised the LORD with [musical] instruments, "which I made," [said David], "for giving praise."

The Hebrew title for the book of Psalms was Sefer Tehillim, which means, “Book of Praises.” When the (LXX) version of the Old Testament was made, the translators gave the book the Greek title Psalmoi, which has reference to songs of praise (Psalms 7:17; 28:7; 149:1). The Greek title was then converted into Latin as Liber Psalmorum, and then into English as Psalms, designating it as the book containing the praise songs of Israel (Psalms 69:34; 135:1; 148:1; 150:1)
