The house Gorse Cottage is thought to date, in the main from the Edwardian and Victorian eras with later editions. The house is primarily constructed of stone with brick quoins and some rendered elevations under a slate roof.

The extensive accommodation has evolved over the generations to provide extensive family accommodation as well as more formal rooms, all in need of modernisation and refurbishment.

History It is understood that Gorse Cottage was previously owned by William ‘Bubbles’ James’s daughter-in-law. He is thought to have visited the property and in addition to being a decorated Admiral in the Royal Navy, he was the child model for the painting by Sir John Everitt Millais used to advertise Pears soap.

The gardens & grounds The owner had on occasions, previously opened the gardens for charity, which are of note being in part walled and hedged, mainly laid to lawn interspersed with herbaceous borders, flower beds a collection of specimen shrubs and trees including a wonderful lime tree. At one end of the garden are a number of magnificent yew hedges which in part enclose a delightful private garden in the centre of which is a formal decorative garden pond. Running along the eastern boundary is a pretty stream.

Outbuildings Attached to the northern elevation of the house and further to the north of the house are a number of outbuildings in various states of repair.
