2020 PREVIEW GUIDE

Team Name: Montclair State University

Mascot: Red Hawks

Location: Montclair, NJ

Captain(s)/Coach(s): President/Head Coach: Dylan Edelstein Associate Coaches: Nick Balitsos, Chris Vadinsky Third Base Coach: Tom Haynes Captain: Nick Reyes

2018-2019 Performance (LAST SEASON):  2018-2019 Season Record: 9-6 Overall (8-5 Conference Record)  Final Conference Ranking/World Series Results: Finished in 3rd place as it came down to the last game for the conference title vs. Hofstra. We were only able to play a 2-game series due to weather conditions and split the double header. Who knows what could have happened if we had that third game of the series.  Notables: Graduating Senior Starting Pitcher Daniel Dripchak was the ace of our staff. His stat line was dominant as he went 6-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 37.1 IP. He also struck out 39 and walked only 6. Graduating Senior Outfielder Chris Armenti led the offense in pretty much ever category while batting with a .356 AVG, having a .383 OBP, leading the team in hits with 16, home runs with 2, runs scored with 10, and RBI's with 9. These two individuals were the consistent core of our team and when they graduated we knew we'd miss a lot of talent.

Fall 2019 Performance (Should it be applicable)  2019 Fall Record (NCBA Sanctioned Games Only): 13-5 Overall Record (6-3 Conference Record)  Notables: We played 18 games in the fall this year as compared to 16 games played all of last season combined. This past fall, we secured a big win vs. URI in a tough fought series where both teams' run differential was zero. Also, we as a team were able to sweep conference opponent Steven's Institute as well as take 2 of 3 from conference opponent Adelphi University. Out of conference, we notably split with Rowan University and split with TCNJ.

Number of Returning Players (Include conference/league award winners): We have 13 returning players rostered from the previous season.

Players to Watch: Sal Barraco (Freshman)- Sal has been a huge surprise for us as an incoming Freshman while he has basically put the team on his back during multiple occassions. He leads the

© 2000 National Club Baseball Association 850 Ridge Avenue Suite 301 Pittsburgh, PA 15212 Office: (412) 321-8440 Fax: (412) 321-4088 country in many pitching categories. Stats: 6-0 record, 1.03 ERA, 34 Innings Pitched, 70 Strikeouts, and an opponent batting AVG. of .136. Tom La Valle (Senior) and Jason Naccarella (Freshman)- These two starting pitchers have been a consistent flip flop in the rotation for us as Tom is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and has 3 CG/Shutouts. Jason also has been very surprising as an incoming Freshman going 3-1 with a dominating 1.18 ERA. Our starting rotation is not one to be taken lightly as you can see it is a three-headed monster.

Jake Giblin (Junior) and Dom Caccavella (Junior)- Dom and Jake are our top of the order catalysts. Jake leads the team in hits with 17, tied for first in runs scored with 13 and base on balls with 9, and he leads the country in stolen bases with an astonishing 16. Dom, not being an immediate starter showed what he really could do. He seems to always be on base as he has a .500 OBP, and he is second on the team in runs scored with 11 and stolen bases with 7. He can also play anywhere on the diamond from infield to outfield to a shutdown relief pticher.

Dylan Edelstein (Senior) and Nick Reyes (Senior)- Both of these gentlemen are looked at as leaders on the team for a reaosn. They have been here the longest along with Senior Tyler Petrillo. The two of them are having their best offensive seasons yet in their final year. Edelstein is batting .344 with a .488 OBP, while scoring 9 runs, driving in 11 to lead the team, and walking 9 times. Captain Nick Reyes is batting .308 with a .440 OBP as he has scored 13 runs tied for first on the team, driven in 7 runs, and has also walked 9 times good enough tied for first on the team.

Nick DeNigris (Junior): Lastly, one of the most funniest guys you will ever meet, DeNigris has been the least of our surprises this season. He picked up right where he left off mashing all over the outfield. DeNigris is hitting .312 with a .450 OBP while smacking 4 doubles, and 2 triples. He also has driven in 9 runs, and has scored 9 times. Defensively, don’t run on him as you will be thrown out.

New additions: Other new additions that have not been mentioned are: Chris Barberio (Freshman Outfielder), Mike Disteso (Freshman Catcher), Spencer Melee (Freshman Infielder), Ryan Mistretta (Freshman Pitcher), and Mike Traina (Junior Outfielder).

In doing so, as a team we practice more throughout the week than we've typically done in previous years, we've increased our repetitions, developed new practice drills, managed in-game situations more thoroughly, and preached team chemistry. 2019-2020 Season Outlook: The UB Bulls look to finish the year with a perfect 15-0 in conference record, with series this coming spring against St. Bonaventure and Niagara. UB looks to get back to the regional championship this year, and take home the New England conference title and advance to their first NCBA World Series appearance. The key additions of Center fielder Josh Simons and Freshman Catcher Adam Wojciechowski have filled holes in the team left by last years seniors. Junior Shortstop Tyler Candelaria has played a huge role in UB's fall season success, both at the plate and in the field. Teddy Gerstein is having one of the most remarkable seasons of anyone in the country, hitting for .500 average with the second most plate apperances on the team, while also being undefeated on the mound in 4 starts with a 2.25 ERA , 0.85 WHIP, and 33 strikeouts.

Manager Quote: "Our team gives it all every game and practice. We are out here looking to prove ourselves to the rest of the NCBA, and continue our success into the 2020 spring season. See you in Kansas" - Ian Unson, Team President

© 2000 National Club Baseball Association 850 Ridge Avenue Suite 301 Pittsburgh, PA 15212 Office: (412) 321-8440 Fax: (412) 321-4088 semester look to continue our success. We play Oneonta and Clarkson during the spring semester hoping to get two more series wins. Our goal this year is to make the world series in Kansas but that all starts the spring training in Tampa. If we make to regionals in Rochester hopefully we will be ranked high and have a good chance to win it.

Manager Quote: This teams morale and will to win is not like any other. With two outs in the top of the 7th against Siena, we fought back and scored 3 runs to tie the ball game, we went on to win this game and stay undefeated. Sweeping UNH after losing to them in regionals last year shows how much we cared about winning the series. We may be underdogs and we love that, we are looking to make it very far this year and think we deserve the recognition for being the only undefeated team, on an 11 game win streak, in our confrence.
