I page 8 A CRE ATIVE CENTURY

There are so many ways to be creative, to express how you feel, to set aside work and commitments and just be you. Some people sing, others dance, some write, others play music – whether it’s acting on stage, tending your garden or crafting a cracking meal, creativity comes in many forms, and we all get different things out of it depending on our age and stage. This exhibition of photographic portraits, testimonials and short filmed interviews features ten Edinburgh residents who regularly get creative in their own way. Starting with a young boy under ten, the photographs wind their way through the years, featuring a person from each decade of our lives up to 90-something. Included in the exhibition is a young woman who loses herself in creative writing, a 40-something who loves singing and dancing with her amateur dramatics group, a clarinettist in his 70s who never misses Monday night rehearsals with his concert band, and a dancer in her 80s who has found a second ‘family’ with her troupe. Hosted at Dance Base as part of the Get Creative Festival 2019 and Luminate , this project by Voluntary Arts Scotland aims to inspire you to flex your creative muscles, whatever your age.
