Soccer Powers Collide Friday When UCLA Hosts Indiana Four-time NCAA champion Bruins to play seven-time champion Hoosiers Friday night at Drake Stadium.

This Week — The UCLA men's soccer team (1-2-1, ranked No. 24 by the NSCAA) hosts Indiana (1-1-2, ranked 2008 UCLA Schedule No. 15 by Soccer America and No. 19 by the NSCAA) on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 pm on Drake Stadium in a battle between traditional NCAA soccer powers. The two teams have combined for 11 NCAA championships Date Opponent Time/Result in the last three decades, with UCLA winning in 1985, 1990, 1997 and 2002 and Indiana winning in 1982, Aug. 29 #8 Maryland (at Home Depot Ctr.) Rankings are NSCAA/adidas rankings. Forest in the Demon Deacon's home opener, UCLA lost 3-0 last Friday after being unable to capitalize on scoring chances. The Bruins nearly faced the same fate on Sunday against 15th-ranked North Carolina, hitting wood twice in the second half and then falling behind 1-0 after a 79th-minute goal. But senior Stat Leaders defender Brad Rusin brought the Bruins back into the game with a goal in the 86th minute, and UCLA Goals settled for a 1-1 tie. Trevor Hunter made just his second career start and made three saves while allowing Maxwell Griffi n - 2 one goal in 110 minutes of play. Assists Kyle Nakazawa - 2 Rusin Doubles Offensive Output — With two goals this season, senior Brad Rusin has already doubled Maxwell Griffi n - 2 his previous career goal-scoring output. The central defender entered the 2008 campaign with just one Eder Arreola - 1 career goal, in 2005, but he has scored goals in two of his last three games to tie forward Maxwell Griffi n Jason Leopoldo - 1 for the team lead in goals scored with two. Goals Against Average Nakazawa Named To M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List — Junior midfi elder Kyle Nakazawa was named Trevor Hunter - 0.82 Brian Perk - 1.63 to the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Watch List. Nakazawa, UCLA's 2007 Team MVP, has started every game of his collegiate career (49 starts and counting) and compiled a total of seven goals and 17 assists. In 2007, he led the Bruins with seven assists and was second on the team in scoring with 13 points and two game- winning goals, both of which were scored in the fi nal two minutes of the game, at Washington and against New Mexico in the NCAA fi rst round. Nakazawa was a second-team All-Pac-10 selection in 2007 and a Soccer p. 1 of 2 America All-Freshman honoree in 2006. The former youth international totaled 21 career caps with the U.S. Under-17 National Team and was a starter on the U-17 team that placed fi fth at the 2005 FIFA World Youth UCLA In The Rankings Championships.
