DIHAAN FAMILY F O U N DATIO N Creative Team Laura E. Glover, Resident Lighting Designer and Production Manager, is celebrating her twentieth season with DK. During her residency here, she has created the lighting design for all of David Hochoy's DK works, as well as collaborated with the dancers in their own choreographic endeavors and the guest choreographers DK has invited to the company. She owns international acclaim for her lighting with DK, Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, Daniel Catanach Ballet, Urban Artworks, Ballets de San Juan and Taylor 2. Her dance lighting includes over 100 world premiere pieces. While residing in Indianapolis, she has lighted productions for the Indianapolis City Ballet, Butler Ballet, the Phoenix Theatre, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Jordan Academy of Dance, the Indianapolis Civic Theatre, The Ruth Lilly Theatre at the Indianapolis Children's Museum and the Indianapolis Men's Chorus. She has worked as a producer and a lighting designer on large-scale international events including the 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships and the 2007 Latvian Dance Festival, both held at Conseco Fieldhouse. Ms. Glover has designed with the Virginia School of the Arts, the Virginia Arts Festival, Todd Rosenlieb Dance and Workshop Theatre Group, whose production of Nijinsky's Last Dance, lighted by Ms. Glover, won international acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Ms. Glover is an adjunct faculty member at University of Indianapolis, teaching lighting design, and a 2001 Creative Renewal Fellow. She holds a M.FA. in Lighting Design from SUNY Purchase. Cheryl Sparks, Costume Designer, is an Indianapolis native, and was an art major at the University of Mexico. She has been sewing for over 50 years. Cheryl is a fabric artist, creating the color and pattern in fabric before molding and sewing it to fit each dancer. It is with joy she shares the creative process with choreographer, lighting designer and dancers. Together, a static piece of fabric becomes a work of art. She has also designed costumes for the Jordan (College of Fine Arts, Butler University) Dance Ensemble, Anderson Young Ballet Theatre, and the Lilly Theatre at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Cheryl has been with DK as in-house designer since 1996. Last year she was honored with the Mary Wright Sewall Leadership Award from the Propylaeum Historic Foundation for her many years of service and dedication to DK. DK Dance 101 Are there any special needs for the costumes worn by DK dancers? Dance costumes have to be flexible to allow the dancers to move freely as they perform, so I use lots of Spandex fabric. Contemporary dance costumes need to be looser than most ballet costumes because our dancers use their torsos and every inch of their bodies more. I also like to add silk fabrics because of the movement and flow they lend. I love working with David. He tells me his concept about a new piece he's choreographing, then sets me free to create. During my process, I show him fabrics, colors and sketches, but he lets me sail. It's 20 years of trust between us! - Cheryl Sparks, Costume Designer Production Staff Production Manager Company Teachers Laura E.
