The Weibel Chronicles The Weibel Chronicles 2017-18, Issue 4 Apr 15, 2018 What is Avengers: Infinity War? If you have that question, you have come to the right person. Faisal here, your numero uno specialist at everything superhero. Anyway, to know what Avengers: Infinity War is, you need to know what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Wikipedia, is ‘an American media franchise and shared universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The franchise has expanded to include comic books, short films, television series, and digital series.’ So, by Marvel, I mean characters like Captain America, Iron Man, Star-Lord, Spider-Man, etc. It’s been 10 years since the release of the first Iron Man movie, and on April 27th, the culmination of over 18 films will be released, known as Avengers: Infinity War. Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers unite to battle their most powerful enemy yet -- the evil Thanos. On a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the artifacts to inflict his twisted will on reality. The fate of the planet and existence itself has never been more uncertain as everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment. Anyway, Infinity War features many heroes. Over 20. And the villain, Thanos, is searching for the six Infinity Stones. The Big Purple raisin is pictured here to the left. As stated by the Collector (Benicio Del Toro) in Guardians of the Galaxy, “Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots... Infinity Stones." The six infinity stones are the Mind Stone, the Reality Stone, the Time Stone, the Soul Stone, the Space Stone, and the Power Stone. When collected and placed in an “Infinity Gauntlet” the wearer of the gauntlet has unimaginable amounts of power. To find out what happens when the heroes of Earth and beyond when they face off with the Mad Titan, watch the film when it comes out on April 27th. The film features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt, among other actors from previous MCU films. The Infinity Stones are pictured here. By Shradha K. Texting Do you text? I sure do! So do my friends. My parents say that texting can decrease the amount of time that you could be using to study. But, when you text, you’re communicating with your friends. Your friends can be in your class. Sometimes, I forget to write some homework assignments in my planner. (I get tempted to go to lunch!) Then, I text my friends saying that I need the homework page(s) for that subject. Most of the time, I bring ALL of my books home. On the days that we don’t have any homework, I still bring home all or most of my books. (Just to please my mom) :) All most all of the time, I text just for fun. This also improves my typing skills. We can also face-time. If you don’t know what face-time is, facetime is an app that people use to talk online, but you do on live video. What app do you text on IF you do text? I text on Google Hangouts. Did you know that some apps don’t require you to have an email to text? I know, that’s pretty awesome. My friend (I’m not naming names!) does not have an email and she has asked her dad to install the mail app on her ipad. Also, texting can give you ideas for a book or article. With the book or article, you can start a neighborhood newspaper. This way, you can also earn money. Have you been noticing that I was only talking about the good things about texting? There are also MANY bad things about texting. This is a picture of a texting chat. There was a website (I will put it under the sources column.) that said that the maximum amount of time you should use on a device or screen, is 3 hours. I mean like, this is for your good. If you spend more than 3 hours, on a device or screen, you may get glasses. And if you are an athlete, you will HATE having glasses. If you have to run with GLASSES, your glasses will keep boinging around. Then, you will be very annoyed and will want to take your glasses off. If you take it off, you won’t be able to see and you can’t run. My mom JUST got contact lenses. Once, my mom was rubbing her eyes and one of her contact lenses almost fell out. Also, if you have contact lenses, you have to take them out of your eyes. And don’t get me wrong, my friends say that I’m tough, but taking out a piece of hydrogel is TOTALLY disgusting. My mom said that the contact lenses were like a super thin piece of plastic. Once, there was a rabbit called Emma. Emma lived in a cozy burrow with her mother, father, ten brothers, and nine sisters. Her best friend was Lisa, a squirrel who lived in a log near Emma’s family’s burrow. They lived happily enough, but needed to save any extra food they could get their paws on. One chilly winter day, Lisa came over to Emma’s house to play in the snow. Emma was building a snow-bunny, and Lisa was building a snow-squirrel. After they had added everything possible to their snow-creatures, Emma had an idea. “Let’s get two carrots for them to chew on!” she said. “Don’t you think your parents will be mad if we take food out of the winter food supply?” asked Lisa curiously. Indeed, it was true that during the winter, creatures were very conservstive with their food supply, as nothing grew in the winter. Emma thought for a moment. Finally, she said, “Nah! It’s just two carrots. How could Mom and Dad possibly miss just 2 little carrots? Plus, if we don’t do it now, we may never get the chance to build a complete snow-creature!” Lisa hesitated. “I, I don’t know.” she said slowly. “Great! I’ll go get them.” cried Emma. And without another word, she dashed to the burrow and came back with two bright, orange, carrots. Suddenly, the creatures heard a low rumbling. “WHO TOOK TWO CARROTS FROM THE PANTRY?!” it cried. The friends exchanged dark looks as Emma’s father, Steve Jackson, marched furiously toward them. “Alright, which one of you two took those carrots?! Everyone knows that you MUST save any extra food for the winter for our very survival!” he bellowed. And his eyes fell on the pair of snow creatures behind his daughter and his friend. “AHA! SO YOU DID TAKE IT!” he screamed at Emma. She thought fast. Anything to escape the worst punishment her father had to offer: No proper food for a week. Amanda, her older sister, had it once, and had to be fed in secret by their mother the whole time, or she’d have surely perished.. “I-It wasn’t m-me.” she stammered. “L-Lisa thought i-it w-w-would be a-a g-good idea t-to give o-our snow- c-creatures, and b-before I could st-stop her, she h-had brought them h-here!” Steve turned furious eyes toward poor Lisa, who was looking half terrified and half shocked at the look Mr. Jackson was giving her, and shocked at how her best friend had treated her. “YOU WILL NEVER BE ALLOWED HERE AGAIN!” he screamed at the poor squirrel. “EMMA WILL STAY AWAY FROM YOU, SINCE EVERYONE KNOWS THAT SQUIRRELS CANNOT BE TRUSTED! THEY ARE SLY AND CRUEL, AND I WAS WRONG TO LET EMMA EVEN SEE YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!” Then, speaking more to himself than poor Lisa, he murmured “Yes, yes, we were utterly wrong just to have trusted those thieving creatures.” Suddenly, Emma, who was pining for her friendship with Lisa, said “No, Dad. It wasn’t Lisa who did it. I took the carrots, and I lied to you.” Steve looked like he was going to explode, then seemed to change his mind. “I am so disappointed in you, Emma. I trusted you. I believed in you. You lied to me and made me accuse an innocent creature of horrible things You needn’t have lied. I knew you had taken them, since Samantha saw you do it. She told me, and I thought it would be nice to let you keep the carrots as a treat.” he rumbled, in a voice that made Emma prefer the yelling. Then, in a more steady voice, “I am so sorry, Lisa. If you’ll excuse me, I need to speak to Stella.” He walked away, shaking his head. Emma smiled wryly at Lisa.

Chadwick Boseman, Best Known For Black Panther Starring Role, Dies at 43 Pdf Published On August 29, 2020 04:05 AM Staff Consortium | August 29, 2020 04:05:40 AM 8 Chadwick Boseman By JORDAN STRAUSS/INVISION/AP LOS ANGELES (AP) — Chadwick Boseman, who played Black American icons Jackie Robinson and James Brown with searing intensity before inspiring audiences worldwide as the regal Black Panther in Marvel’s blockbuster movie franchise, died Friday of cancer. He was 43. Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his side, his publicist Nicki Fioravante told The Associated Press. Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, his family said in a statement. “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.” Born in South Carolina, Boseman graduated from Howard University and had small roles in television before his first star turn in 2013. His striking portrayal of the stoic baseball star Robinson opposite Harrison Ford in 2013′s “42” drew attention in Hollywood and made him a star. A year later, he wowed audiences as Brown in the biopic “Get On Up.” Boseman died on a day that Major League Baseball was celebrating Jackie Robinson day.

  • Parodic Dubbing in Spain: Digital Manifestations of Cultural Appropriation, Repurposing and Subversion 1. Introduction Having Be
The Journal of Specialised Translation Issue 32 – July 2019 Parodic dubbing in Spain: digital manifestations of cultural appropriation, repurposing and subversion Rocío Baños, University College London ABSTRACT This paper sets out to explore the phenomenon of parodic dubbing by examining its origins and situating it in its current context. Parodic dubbing symbolises the union of two loathed but highly influential forms of artistic and cultural appropriation, used innovatively in the current digital era. The aim is also to investigate how parodic dubbing reflects the politics of audiovisual translation in general, and of dubbing in particular, revealing similarities and divergences with official dubbing practices. This is done drawing on examples from two different Spanish parodic dubbings from an iconic scene from Pulp Fiction (Tarantino 1994). Throughout this work, theoretical perspectives and notions through which parodic dubbing can be examined (among others, rewriting, ideological manipulation, cultural and textual poaching, participatory culture or fandubbing) are presented, framing this phenomenon in the current discussion of fan practices and participatory culture, and drawing on theoretical perspectives and notions developed within Translation Studies and Media Studies. The investigation of the relationship between parodic dubbing, translation and subversion has illustrated that this and other forms of cultural appropriation and repurposing challenge our traditional understanding of notions such as originality, authorship and fidelity. In addition, it has revealed how such practices can be used as a site of experimentation and innovation, as well as an ideological tool. KEYWORDS Parodic dubbing, fundubbing, fandubbing, subversion, cultural appropriation. 1. Introduction Having been both praised and demonised by some scholars, intellectuals, viewers and film directors (see for instance the discussion in Yampolsky 1993 or in Nornes 2007), dubbing rarely escapes controversy.

  • De Da Ft Punk À Stromae ANGLAIS
From Daft Punk to Stromae, how global is ‘French Music’? By Virginie Berger, translation Emma Dovey. Who is the international audience of the francophone music industry? How can we explain the export successes of Daft Punk and Stromae? Is French rap music’s international investment paying off? While for a long time the appeal of making money was not associated with the cultural economy, the invention of marketing and the internet succeeded in transforming some French artists into products that are consumed all over the world. In order to better understand how the French music scene adopted a strategy of profit and internationalisation, the French Touch movement is telling to say the least. It deciphers a musical style that has transcended ‘underground’ music and become mainstream. To explain this transformation, one supposition suggests that 1970s pop stars coincided with the emergence of marketing theories. At this point in time, thanks to rock music and supermarket shelves which were overflowing with Elvismania and Beatlemania merchandise, North America and Great Britain were innovating, transforming and marking the birth of musical merchandising.1 A few years later, disco music, the predecessor of the clubbing2 and DJing scenes, was emerging in the United States. At the dawn of the 1980s, a major development then took place which suggested a more industrial and more cyclical music genre inspired by pop, funk and soul. This new genre, closely related to party and dance culture, was an ideal birthplace for the worthy heir of disco: house music. This very music would then develop at the start of the 21st century, as an undercurrent in Madonna and Daft Punk’s global smash hits.

The relationship varies based on viewers’ personality traits, the medium, as well as the genre. To answer these research questions, this study uses a naturalistic study featuring a horror film from 2003 called Gothika. The study used a convenience sampling of college-aged students, a population that commonly watches horror movies (Eden, Johnson, Udvardi, & Rosenbaum, 2019). I designed the study to consider different groups watching Gothika. The individuals were divided into two categories: those who read neutral spoiled reviews and those who read neutral unspoiled reviews.
