Scholarships with PRIVATE APPLICATIONS: Scholarships with private applications should be submitted to the address and/or email indicated on its unique application, which can be found in this newsletter and/or on Naviance.

Scholarships using the FHS APPLICATION: Scholarships using the FHS application should be emailed to Mrs. Erikson, College & Career Counselor, at [email protected]. Copies of the FHS application can be found on Naviance; the essay topic can be found in the black box at the top of the application.

If a scholarship uses an FHS application, it should be submitted to Ms. Erikson on ONE EMAIL that includes the application and the essay as a PDF ATTACHMENT, with the s cholarship name as the subject line.

Scholarships with FHS APPLICATION

The Bennie Ottaviani Service Award ($300) -- Due March 15, 2021 Sponsored by the FHS Parent-Teacher Booster Organization, this is awarded in honor of Officer Ottaviani, a member of the Framingham Police Department. The recipient should be an FHS senior who has supported the FHS community in an unselfish manner, and who has made an "enthusiastic and outstanding contribution to FHS." Charles W. Hickson Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) -- Due by March 15, 2021 Awarded to an FHS senior who will attend a 4-year college and who has demonstrated integrity and has diligently applied him/her to his/her studies and career goal. Preference is given to those seniors with financial need. The application can be found on Naviance ( w ww.naviance.com) or in the College & Career Center.

Community Recycling Awards Scholarship (TBD) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to 1 or more seniors with a passion for the environment who will major in Environmental Studies (or a related science) at a 4-year college or university. The Connor R. Neshe Scholarship ($5,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 The Connor R. Neshe Scholarship is in memory of Connor Neshe, a 2019 Framingham High School graduate. During his time at FHS Connor was an integral part of the Men’s Team, robotics team, and served as a tutor at the ADC. He was known for his kind and generous spirit. These are some of the qualities that are being looked for in candidates for this scholarship. The Connor R. Neshe Scholarship also requires that students be attending a school for a helping profession, with preference for physical therapy or athletic training, which Connor planned to study at Springfield College before tragically passing in fall 2019. DCU Scholarship for FHS Students ($2,500 for 4 FHS seniors) -- Due by March 15, 2021 The DCU Way: People come first. Do the right thing. Make a difference. When in doubt, choose that student. Dr. & Mrs. Matthew L. Herz Memorial Scholarship ($2,500) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a senior who has demonstrated both excellence in science and a commitment to school and community. The application can be found on Naviance ( w ww.naviance.com) or in the College & Career Center.

Edward F. Convery Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) -- Due March 15, 2021 Open to graduating seniors who will pursue a degree in education, history, or religious studies. Preference given to seniors who will attend a Mass. State college or university and who demonstrate financial need. Edwin Alexis Marin Scholarship ($1,000 awarded to 3 students) -- Due March 15, 2021 Three scholarships awarded to seniors of Latino heritage. Applicants should have one or both parents (or grandparents) born in a Spanish-speaking country in Latin America or the Caribbean. In your essay for this application, please answer the following: What obstacles or challenges have you overcome in life and/or in school, and how did you accomplish this? Eleanor M. & James L. Brophy Scholarship ($15,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 This scholarship was created in 2014 by Eleanor and James Brophy. They were longtime residents of Framingham and were interested in helping students discover their potential. Upon their deaths they established a scholarship for the benefit of students from Framingham in order to allow them to continue their education and success after graduation from high school. The award is given to a graduating senior who has attained solid academic performance and achievements and who is also deserving of financial assistance in order to realize their potential at

a college or university of higher learning. Candidates must have attended all four years at Framingham High School. Given the generosity of this scholarship candidates must submit an application essay discussing their strong academic performance and accomplishments, their financial needs as well as any obstacles overcome during their four years at FHS. Framingham Administrators’ Association Award ($500) -- Due March 15, 2021 Preference given to students with family members in the FAA. The application can be found on Naviance ( w ww.naviance.com) or in the College & Career Center.

Frank Barbieri Jr. Memorial Scholarship (TBD) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to an FHS senior who plans to be a teacher, preferably of history. Candidates should have demonstrated strong willingness to learn, to help others, and be caring individuals. Honey Dew Donuts Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 For a student who will attend an accredited 4-year college or university, maintains a B- or better, participates in local community/charitable activities, and who meets the general requirements as determined by Framingham Public School's scholarship committee. James Carey Memorial Scholarship ($500) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a student who will major in a field related to health and/or physical education (this does not include nursing or medical majors). Jane Shapiro Chafetz Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 For an FHS senior who attended Dunning School and has demonstrated need. The application can be found on Naviance ( w ww.naviance.com) or in the College & Career Center.

Jon N. Provest Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 The Jon N. Provest Memorial Scholarship will be given to a student in need, who displays strong artistic merit and who intends to attend a college for Fine Art or some other closely related creative post-secondary pathway, and who will be graduating during this school year. Kathleen Connolly Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a graduating senior who will pursue a four-year degree on a full-time basis at a state university. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. The application can be found on Naviance ( w ww.naviance.com) or in the College & Career Center.

Karen Foran Dempsey Scholarship (TBD) -- Due March 15, 2021 Born and raised in Framingham, Karen Foran Dempsey spent her entire life advocating for equality for those with disabilities, and most recently served as Districts School Committee Member. She experienced a challenging physical disability from her early years and never let it impede her living life to the fullest, as she used her experience to advocate vigorously for all people to have equal access and equal opportunity. Sadly, Karen died suddenly at the age of 54 on December 24, 2020. The selected student shall be a Framingham High School student with a physical disability who seeks to continue their education after graduation. Lauren Elizabeth Walsh DuBois Memorial Scholarship ($3,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Lauren Elizabeth Walsh DuBois was a lovely, quiet, smart, young woman who was loved by many. She loved reading, history, cooking and playing World of Warcraft. During her time at FHS, Lauren was an active member of the GSA program. This program was very important to her and she enjoyed being part of a group of students focused on ensuring equal treatment for all. Lauren’s family will proudly award this scholarship to a college-bound, FHS senior student graduating during this school year who participated actively in FHS’ GSA program. Lauren Elizabeth Walsh DuBois Photography Scholarship ($3,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Lauren Elizabeth Walsh DuBois was a lovely, quiet, smart, young woman who was loved by many. She loved reading, history, cooking and playing World of Warcraft. Most of all, Lauren loved to apply her passion for photography to everything, during her time at Framingham High School and beyond. Lauren’s family will proudly award this scholarship to a college-bound, FHS senior student graduating during this school year who will be pursuing photography as a minor or major at the college they will be attending. Mary R. Ciccolo Memorial Scholarship ($500) -- Due March 15, 2021 This $500 scholarship is intended for a current Framingham High School student, who plans on attending a four year college this fall, and who was a former Walsh Middle School (Framingham, MA) student. In the essay, the student should choose one of the available prompts and write a brief (maximum two pages) essay. Available prompts: 1) If you could design a college curriculum, what would it look like? Describe the overall theme, some potential classes, and the expected outcome. 2) If you could retake one high school class, as a do over, which one would it be and why? 3) Tell me about your favorite teacher. Michelle Chouinard Memorial Scholarship ($1,250) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a motivated, hard-working student with and interest in math or excellence in math, who has participated in extracurricular activities and/or sports. The student should be a caring, perceptive individual who looks out for the welfare of others, and who has perhaps organized and encouraged participation in activities for the benefit of others. Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a senior who has demonstrated a commitment to his/her studies and community involvement and that has financial needs. The recipient should have demonstrated, during their high school years, the courage and perseverance to significantly improve their academic performance and make positive changes to his/her life. Paresky, Flitt & Co. LLP, Academic Book Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a senior who will pursue a Bachelor's degree in Business. The scholarship payment will be made to the student upon proof of registration for the second semester of his/her freshman year. Peter Furlong Vocal Performance Scholarship ($300) -- Due March 15, 2021 A graduating senior with plans to pursue a college degree in vocal performance and demonstrates great aptitude, passion, and drive for a career in music. Regina Henneberry Scholarship Fund ($1,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Graduating female student who is going to a 4 year college to major in English with the hopes of pursuing a career in teaching at the high school level. Students must have a B average and submit an essay stating why she feels that she is eligible for this scholarship. Kropp Memorial Scholarship ($600) -- Due March 15, 2021 For a senior in the top 25% of the class, who will attend a 4-year college, who is active in extracurricular activities, and who has served the community in some capacity. St. Mary’s Credit Union Scholarship Award (3 awards of $500) -- Due March 15, 2021 Students who have exhibited scholarship achievement, leadership ability and community service that demonstrate financial need. Wright Scholarship ($2,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to an FHS senior who ranks in the top half of his/her class, who has leadership qualities, and who plans to pursue a career in a science-related field. Woodrow Wilson Elementary School Scholarship ($500) -- Due March 15, 2021 For a former student of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School who will attend a college or technical school. "HOW DO YOU FEEL YOUR EXPERIENCES IN THE DIVERSE COMMUNITY OF FRAMINGHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL PREPARE YOU FOR THE COLLEGE JOURNEY AHEAD? Wright Charles Scholarship ($2,000) -- Due March 15, 2021 Awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a career in a technology-related field, who ranks in the top half of his/her class, and who has leadership qualities. The student MUST include the name of the school they plan on attending in the scholarship application, as the scholarship check will be paid directly to the college the recipient plans to attend. Eurie A. Stamps, Sr. Memorial Scholarship (TBD) -- Due April 15, 2021 This will be a scholarship to be awarded to a graduating senior who identifies as a person of color, and who has participated in sports in high school on the Varsity level for two or more years, and who will be attending an accredited two or four year college or a vocational/technical program after graduating from Framingham High School. The student should embody the spirit of Eurie A. Stamps, Sr. by having demonstrated a spirit of giving, community involvement and mentorship, and concern for at-risk students and families. It is intended that this scholarship will be an annual program. The recipient must identify as a student of color and must have participated in social advancement activism for similarly situated students, through participation in non-athletic socially motivated extracurricular activities, such as the Black Student Union, Asian Student Association, Environmental Awareness Club, GSA/Gender and Sexuality Alliance, LEA (Latinas en Acción), Model UN, SIM (Student Immigration Movement) Club, Student Government, or a similar club which considers or involves itself in issues of social/racial equity. The recipient must have participated in varsity sports on the high school level for at least two years in one or more sports. If the recipient is to be a graduate of the Thayer Campus, the above varsity or extracurricular activity criteria may be substituted for the student being considered a Group or Team Leader, or displayed mentoring behavior towards other students. Kerri Chipman Memorial Scholarship (TBD) -- Due April 15, 2021 This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating FHS Senior who has a genuine interest and care for others. This Senior should be a self- motivated, hard-working student with leadership qualities. This award is not limited to a 2 or 4-year educational experience, but the award can also be applied to any post-secondary pathway that enhances the recipients personal growth goals. Paul V. Thorp FTA Education Award (TBD) -- March 17, 2021 Established in 2018 to honor a life’s work dedicated to education, the Paul V. Thorp Scholarship Fund was created to assist students with a desire to enter the field of teaching. The applicant should be a graduating senior have a desire to pursue a science/teaching major in higher education, strive for academic success, and

Framingham Teachers Association Education Award (TBD) -- Due March 22, 2021 For a senior who has overcome some personal and/or academic difficulty, and has displayed perseverance in striving to become "the best he or she can be." The A. James Lavoie Essay Scholarship with Middlesex Bank ($5,000) -- Due March 26, 2021 To be eligible for the A. James Lavoie Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement. They must also plan to attend a four-year college program, and graduate from one of the many public, charter, or vocational high schools in t he communities we serve. The winner is selected from among eligible applicants by an independent committee on the basis of strength and quality of submitted essays. Kevin Flynn Doherty Memorial Scholarship (TBD) -- Due March 29, 2021 This scholarship is given in memory of Kevin Flynn Doherty who died in a tragic accident while he was a student at Framingham North High School. Kevin’s mother, Barbara Defino, a teacher at Hemenway Elementary School for over 30 years bequeathed the money for this scholarship when she passed away in 2014. Kevin was a wonderful, caring, young man, who had many friends. He loved the outdoors, including boating, waterskiing, and soccer. The Rebekah Assembly of MA: Indep. Order of Odd Fellows ($1,000) -- Due March 30, 2021 Awarded to seniors who plan to further their education by attending a two-year or four-year college. Important that all of the following information must accompany this application: 1) statement of needs of a scholarship 2) 1 adult personal letter of reference from outside of school 3) two educational letters of reference 4) academic/scholastic record

Asia Rahman Memorial Scholarship Fund ($600) -- Due March 31, 2021 Two $600 dollar scholarships are available to high school seniors entering a 2 or a 4 year college in Fall, 2021. Christa McAulie Regional Charter Public School Scholarship ($500) -- Due March 31, 2021 Awarded to a senior who graduated from the McAuliffe Charter School who plans to pursue a degree beyond a high school diploma. Rotary Education Fund of Framingham (10 scholarships of $4,300) -- Due April, 1 2021 Awarded to seniors who have taken actions in their community that demonstrate service to the community. Ten scholarships of $4,300 each. They give preference to students who include a resume with their applications even though they don't ask students to submit one. Gillian Tara Shor Memorial Scholarship ($1,500) -- Due April 9, 2021 The Gillian Tara Shor Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Gillian Shor, a Framingham middle school student who died in the spring of 2000 following a 2 1/2 year battle with brain cancer. The Gillian Tara Shor Scholarship Committee is seeking a well-rounded student who exemplifies many of Gill's qualities, particularly her passion for activities like soccer, her enthusiasm and spirit, her kindness, her concern for others and the special knack she had for bringing people together. Framingham Garden Club Scholarship (4 scholarships of $1,000) -- Due April 14, 2021 The Framingham Garden Club, Inc. is pleased to offer scholarships to graduating seniors who will be attending a post high school program that includes either a four-year, two-year or a certificate degree. Three $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded. These scholarships are open to residents of Framingham who will graduate from high school in June of 2021.The Framingham Garden Club, Inc. is looking for students who will be studying Environmental Sciences and related fields. Grand Lodge of MA: Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America ($1,000) -- Due April 15, 2021 One principal award shall be made to a properly qualified music student and one to a properly qualified art student who intended to pursue their education in a recognized and accredited school. One principal award shall be granted to a properly qualified student planning to purse his or her education in a recognized and accredited vocational or technical school. A minimum of 4 scholarships shall be granted to properly qualified students, who are

Carey Memorial Scholarship ($750) -- Due April 16, 2021 The South Middlesex Chapter of MAIW, Inc. is again offering scholarships to two (2) qualifying seniors among all applications received from area high schools.
