PBC Tournament Returns to Columbus • In June, the Peach Belt Conference announced that the 2012 PBC Basketball Tournaments would be held at the Frank G. Lumpkin Center in Colum- bus. All 14 games will be played in the Lumpkin Center with the women’s tournament opening on Thursday, March 1 while the men will open play a day later. Both championship games will be held on Sunday, March 4. Columbus State last hosted the tournament in 2003 as the Cougars were victori- ous against Kennesaw State 72-56 in the Championship game. The tourney was also held in Columbus in 2002 when Augusta State won their second consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament title. CSU was knocked out by the Jaguars in the semifinals that season.

Bleak Years • Columbus State, once one of the proudest basketball programs in the southeast, has fallen on tough times recently. Before this season, the Cougars have not had a winning season since 2006-2007 as they finished that season with a 17-12 record. • Since that season, CSU has had a 58-66 record overall and a 39-52 mark in the Peach Belt Conference. • The Cougars have not won more than 10 conference games in a season since 2005-2006 (Coach Herbert Greene’s final season) when they went 23-9 (16-4 PBC) and won the conference tournament. • CSU has also not had a 20-win season since Coach Greene’s final campaign after having four seasons in a row with 20 or more victories.
