ACADEMY TO HONOR MASTER DIRECTOR

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy Foundation will present a special "Tribute to Fred Zinnemann" on Monday, January 27, at 8:00 P.M., it was announced today by Academy president Robert E. Wise . The program honoring the 3-time Academy Award-winning director will take place in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Wise will serve as host/moderator for the event, which will feature the screening of an extensive selection of excerpts from Zinnemann films including such classics as HIGH NOON, THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING, , OKLAHOMA!, THE NUN'S STORY, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS and JULIA. Wise will also discuss Zinnemann, the man and the artist, with a number of celebrated associates including director (a fellow Austrian and co-contributor to the famous 1929 documentary PEOPLE ON SUNDAY) and Oscar-winning screenwriter Daniel Taradash (who collaborated with Zinnemann on FROM HERE TO ETERNITY , among others). Zinnemann, who resides in England, will attend. The tribute will mark the official presentation by Zinnemann of his working papers, scripts, photographs, film prints and other materials documenting his more-than- 55-year motion picture career to the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library. The collection, rich in correspondence with such historic figures as Ernest Hemingway, Bill Mauldin, John Steinbeck, Katharine Hepburn, Oscar Hammerstein II,
