LAttnitai Cala gij greetings

We are personally looking forward to spring. However, the unusual climatic conditions of winter have created a later beginning. Our 2009 catalog is somewhat later and has a reduction in the number of cultivars offered; with technology and an established format, it has allowed the retention of much of the color printing, for which we are grateful. Ethereal Magic (Lemon Sails x Sun Gem) a sibling to Lemon Luster is one of our best reverse bicolors. Classical Age (Glissando x Impeccable) is a sibling to National Treasure and it is evident that both parents contribute to its perfect form. Both of the preceding are at the top of our list of introductions. Having hybridized for a number of years for red/orange trumpets with both yellow and white perianths, we are offering a few new cultivars that are very appealing in themselves and may be useful for hybridizing in this area. It is our opinion that Astute and Sumation are possible steps for white perianths. Velvet Orange and Orangewood exemplify progress with yellow perianths. We are very pleased to include several more cultivars from the Jacksons (Tasmania, Australia), three introductions from Dr. Frank Galyon and one from William Gould. There are a number of offerings from the Freys again, this year. DaffSeek (http://www.daffseek.org ) continues to be an extraordinary tool to all who wish to view daffodils for correct identification. Please note website change: www.mitschdaffodils.com (during the course of the year, there is a plan for additional offerings on our website) and email change: [email protected] . Also please note there have been changes in the following three classifications: Pink Lightning changes to 2W-GPP which will allow it to be shown as an intermediate. Grandma's Sweetheart changes to 6Y-Y and Prairie City changes to 7W-W. Your personal correspondence of encouragement during the last year has been greatly appreciated and we wish to thank each of you. It is our hope that you have another outstanding showing and growing year. In closing, we wish to express once again our appreciation for your special interest that has allowed our operation to be possible. Many, many thanks again. Richard and Elise Havens

Jackson's Daffodils Australia We are privileged to have an offering from David and Robin Jackson from Tasmania, Australia. As is widely known, the Jacksons have originated some of the finest cultivars in commerce. An ongoing arrangement has been made to offer a number of their originations. A number of newer cultivars are being offered this year as well as some that were previously listed. All have been acclimated to the Northern Hemisphere. Their bulbs do exceptionally well for us. They not only demonstrate outstanding show quality, but also strong stems, heavy substance, health and vigor in a natural environment. In addition to the photographs in our catalog, many of them may be viewed on the DaffSeek portion (http://www.daffseek.org ) of the American Daffodil Society's web site. (Country 6arbru Over the years of our hybridizing program, the goal of excellence in show flowers has been a high priority beginning in the 1940's in the early days of Grant Mitsch's hybridizing. Very early on, he was working for color intensity especially reddish pinks, in various combinations, for he knew that this would be of interest to most people. Seedlings have been hybridized and selected on this basis. The following named cultivars have proven themselves as fine garden flowers. They have been observed for a period of years to substantiate consistency and a number of them are also of exhibition quality. Netv- Titrifinr5... for t1 c Garbint

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of Jerry Frey, Eileen Mitsch Frey's husband. As most of you know, Eileen has developed a number of cultivars. They have grown many of the miniatures, including their own, as well as their other originations, which have been offered in the catalog over the years. Jerry will be sorely missed.
