DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Manager of Services, plans, coordinates, and produces and multimedia programs as well as local television productions. Under general supervision, carries out specific pre-production, production, and post-production duties as required. Additional information available includes essential job functions, knowledge, skills, abilities, and education and experience requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 Possesses expertise in video animation software programs, preferably Adobe After Effects, Flash, and Maxon Cinema 4D.  Exercises creativity in writing scripts, producing, directing, and editing video and multimedia programs.  Possesses an in-depth knowledge of media production, direction, and the operation of production equipment sufficient to create quality video programs.  Technically and artistically edits video . Responsible for assembling final products as a sequence consisting of shots from the raw camera footage, narration, sound effects and graphics.  Plans and schedules productions: cast, crew, sets, props, wardrobes, etc.  Participates in and remote productions during weekday and evening hours, as well as weekends on occasion.  Assists with the daily organization and maintenance of the , post-production facilities, and related equipment.  Drives and operates HCPSS-owned vehicles.  Keeps abreast of emerging technologies in video production and makes recommendations to Television Production Manager for acquisition of new equipment and programming.  Works with school system staff, student interns, and community members to enhance school system video productions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all of the following qualifications listed below to be considered for the vacancy. Use the application, letter of introduction, and resume to specifically address each qualification.

 Working knowledge of camera techniques, non-linear , audio variations, script writing, lighting techniques, and basics of film and .  Ability to technically understand objective for finished product.  Ability to use computer non-linear editing equipment and editing software, including 3rd party plug- ins.  Ability to use Windows-based compatible computers, software, and peripherals. Exclusively Windows OS platform usage for nonlinear editing system. Specifically: Adobe CS and Microsoft Office products. In depth knowledge of Adobe Premiere.  Ability to work flexible and irregular hours on occasion.  Superior interpersonal skills with oral and written communication skills to support effective interaction with students, staff, faculty and various levels of the district.  Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, according to established practices and procedures with minimal supervision within the assigned time frame.  Ability to identify opportunities to improve present programs and/or projects.  Ability to prioritize workload.  Ability to perform work requiring some physical exertion. Ability to lift heavy loads of 40 lbs. or more.  A valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and clean driving record.  Demo reel of production and editing skills preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication or equivalent technical training in Broadcast Television Production from a regionally accredited institution.  At least five years of directly related TV studio and/or video production experience, preferably in an educational environment.  Ability to use both MAC and IBM compatible computers, software, and peripherals.  Ability to use non-linear editing equipment and software.

SALARY

This is a 12-month position, Grade 23 on the Central Office Technical Salary Scale. The current salary range for this position is $47,404-$87,342. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public School System. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is exempt from overtime.
