8 Doing an internship abroad BOOST YOUR GLOBAL MINDSET THROUGH AN INTERNSHIP ABROAD

What is a global mindset and why does it matter? We could define a global mindset as one that combines an openness to and awareness of diversity across cultures and markets, with a propensity and ability to see common patterns across countries and markets. In a company with a global mindset, people view cultural and geographic diversity as opportunities to exploit, and are prepared to adopt successful practices and good ideas wherever they come from. The twin forces of ideological change and technological revolution are making globalisation one of the most important issues facing companies today. Cultivating a global mindset is a prerequisite to becoming a global company.

The following five-step cycle can help you develop a global mindset and improve the quality of your cross-cultural interactions.

First impressions are formed immediately and are then very difficult to change. It takes between 30 seconds and 2 minutes to form a first impression, so how you begin your first day at your workplace is very important. HOW IS UNIVERSITY DIFFERENT FROM THE WORKPLACE? It is quite common to experience some form of disappointment with the workplace. The main reason for this is a difference between what you anticipated and what you really experienced. This can result in a dip in morale. It is important to let go of the attitudes and expectations of university life when entering the workforce. The workplace operates differently from university.
