Mark Lane, Partner, Pinsent Masons LLP Mark Lane is the Head of the Water Group at international law fi rm Pinsent Masons. He established the Water Group 15 years ago. The Water Group specialises in all forms of legal work for the global water industry – having extensive experience of water, wastewater, desalination and industrial water reuse projects, as well as of water resource management, environmental and corporate issues encountered by water utilities and other entities involved in the global water industry. For the past 5 years Mark has organised an ongoing series of Wet Network events (15 to date) where young companies with interesting new technologies in the water space pitch for funding to an audience of funders and other interested parties.

SPEAKERS

Dr David Lloyd Owen, Managing Director, Envisager Dr Lloyd Owen is Managing Director of Envisager, a strategic consultancy advising governments, multilateral institutions, fi nanciers and companies on the water and wastewater market, policy, regulatory, environmental and management. He has been following the water sector for 23 years, previously at BNP Paribas and Ecofi n Limited. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Pictet Funds Water Fund and XPV Capital’s Water Fund and is advisor to the Board of Bluewater Bio along with being an Ambassador for Pump Aid. He read Environmental Biology at Liverpool and has a DPhil in Applied Ecology from Oxford and is a Chartered Environmentalist (MIEEM, CEnv) and Geographer (FRGS, CGeog).

He has written six books on water fi nance, markets and management including the ‘Pinsent Masons Water Yearbook’ (13th edition, 2011) along with a monthly column for Global Water Intelligence. ‘The sound of thirst: Why urban water for all is essential, achievable and affordable’ will be published by Parthian Books in June 2012.

Marion Price, Director, Mobsby Associates Marion is a career banker who has specialised in the private fi nancing of infrastructure and in PPP generally. She has built, from scratch, successful project fi nance/PFI/PPP businesses in the City of London, most notably in Midland Bank/Samuel Montagu and The Sumitomo Bank Limited, where she was a Deputy General Manager. She joined Coopers and Lybrand as a senior partner to establish a global project fi nance business, based out of London, becoming a senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers after the merger, responsible for global energy business . Marion is now an owner and director of two advisory companies, Mobsby Associates and PPP Solutions, that specialise in the provision of PPP/PFI and project fi nance advice in the UK and overseas.

Marion represented the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (www.ebrd.com) on the board of Sofi yska Voda (Sofi a Water), a major concession water project in the capital of Bulgaria where the EBRD was an equity owner. She sat on the board of AS Tallinna Vesi, a concession water company for the capital of Estonia, up to its successful fl otation on the Tallinn Stock Exchange. Marion was also a non-executive director of The Crown Agents Bank Limited, the bank owned by the UK Crown Agents for over seven years. Since July 2011 she has been a senior partner of Riverfl eet Capital, an infrastructure investment vehicle. Also in July 2011 she was appointed a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers of the City of London. Marion is also a Director and Faculty member of the Commonwealth Business School where she specialises in PPP.

In her career, Marion has been involved in a wide range of project fi nancing and PPP/PFI – both lending and advisory – in a large number of countries around the world. The main geographic areas of activity have been the UK, the EU, Central and Eastern Europe, the , South Africa, India, S E Asia, Japan, China, Australia, Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. HE Loay Musallam, CEO, National Water Company (NWC) Mr. Loay Ahmed Al-Musallam who is the Chief Executive Offi cer of National Water Company is an MBA, from the University of Leicester, UK. He has attended Executive Management Training Programs conducted by the following major Universities: Harvard, Pennsylvania, Columbia, Virginia, Michigan and North Carolina. He has participated in several international conventions as Keynote Speaker and contributed several articles to many magazines and newspapers. He served as the Deputy Minister for Planning & Development in the Ministry of Water & Electricity (MoWE), where he successfully headed the Privatization and Restructuring of water utility in Saudi Arabia. By April 2008, he was appointed as the Chief Executive Offi cer and member of Board of Directors of National Water Company (NWC). From that time up to the present he was successfully able to accelerate major water & wastewater infrastructure projects in the kingdom, which fi rmly positioned NWC on the path to operational and customer excellence in next 3 years, and a world- class water utility company in 5-7 years. Mr. Loay Ahmed Al-Musallam has also been Chief Executive Offi cer of the National Water Company, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, a Member of NWC Board of Directors, a member of the SAGIA Board of directors, a member of the SASO Board of directors, the Deputy Minister for Planning and Development for the Ministry of Water and Electricity, and the head of privatisation and re- engineering of the Water Sector.

Mariana Iteva, Country Director for Bulgaria of Veolia Water and Administrative Director of Sofi yska Voda Mariana has a MA degree from Sofi a University as well as a MBA with a specialisation in international business development from Aston University in Birmingham, UK. Currently, she is the Country Director for Bulgaria of Veolia Water. Previously, Mariana has worked as a Representative for Bulgaria and Eastern Europe of the British water company Cascal as well as for another British water company, Severn Trent. Between 2003 and 2006 Mariana was the Head of Severn Trent’s Representative Offi ce in Moscow. In 2009 she was seconded for three months to the UKTI Section of the British Embassy in Moscow to research and investigate commercial opportunities for British companies. In November 2011 Mariana was also appointed Administrative Director of Sofi yska voda, the private water and wastewater operator serving a population of 1.4 m in the capital of Bulgaria.

Lu Shen, Structured Financial Specialist, Private Sector Operations. Department (PSOD), Asian Development Bank Lu works in the private sector infrastructure operations at the Asian Development Bank, covering East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacifi c. She is also the sector representative of ADB’s Water Community of Practice. After obtaining degrees in business and public policy from MIT Sloan School and Harvard Kennedy School of Government, she has been working in international development and project fi nance, both in Asia and in Latin America. In terms of project fi nance, Lu has been involved in various projects in traditional and renewable energy, transport and logistics. In terms of water, Lu has extensive experience in IWRM, water, wastewater, desalination and PES, having fi nanced projects in over 15 countries including China, Colombia, Peru, , Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago. Her current focus is on developing PPPs in the Asia Pacifi c region.

Sue Goeransson, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Susan Goeransson is the portfolio manager for the Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure Team at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where she manages portfolio of approximately EUR 2 billion of investments, including loans to local authorities, municipally owned utilities and companies as well as private sector fi nancing. Ms Goeransson joined EBRD in 1993 and has worked in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, agribusiness and general industry.

Prior to joining EBRD, Ms Goeransson worked at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation as a senior banker and the Securities and Exchange Commission as a fi nancial analyst. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. She has a joint Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Studies and History from Northwestern University. Bob Taylor, Business Development Director, Sembcorp Utilities Services Ltd Having returned to the UK in 2010 from Sembcorp’s China head offi ce in Shanghai, Bob is now responsible for development of the municipal water and wastewater sector for Sembcorp in . Prior to this, Bob was the Managing Director of The China Water Company Limited based in . China Water was part of the Cascal group, a British company specialising in the ownership and operation of water and wastewater infrastructure in 8 countries around the world, including China. Cascal was purchased by Sembcorp Industries in 2010. Previously, Bob worked for the ADWEA group in as Deputy Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Interim Managing Director of Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company and as a Technical Advisor in the Privatisation Directorate. Each of these roles was focused on the introduction of the private sector to the leading utility company in the region. Prior to ADWEA, Bob worked for RWE Thames Water as General Manager and Director of the Ajman Sewerage Company in the United Arab Emirates. He has also worked in India, Central Asia and Australia. However most of his professional experience is in the UK where he held a number of senior positions in the Veolia Group of companies specializing in leakage control, network management and asset management. Bob holds a B.Sc. (hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, an M.Sc. in Public Health Engineering from Imperial College, London and a Masters in Business Administration from Thames Valley University, London. He is a chartered civil engineer and a fellow of the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management and a member of the International Water Association. He has published a number of technical papers on the subject of water distribution system management and has chaired several conferences in the water fi eld around the world.

Mr Aamir Jariwala, Head - Corporate Strategy & Investor Relations, SPML Infra Limited Mr. Jariwala joined SPML as the Head of Corporate Strategy in April 2010 and brings with him a host of experience in the fi elds of private equity and investment banking through his deal experience in the North American, European and Japanese markets. Prior to joining the fi rm, Mr. Jariwala worked with Friend Skoler & Co., a middle-market private equity fund in the US to identify and execute various transactions including recapitalisations, management buyouts, industry consolidations, ownership transitions, and growth capital opportunities across a broad range of industries. Prior to Friend Skoler, he was Assistant Vice President with Mitsubishi-UFJ Securities’ Mergers and Acquisitions Advisory group where he specialized in cross-border M&A transaction origination and execution in New York and Tokyo. Prior to Mitsubishi, Mr. Jariwala was an investment banking analyst at UBS Investment Bank’s Mergers and Acquisitions group in London and New York, where he focused on valuation and board advisory mandates for various public and private companies. M r. Jariwala earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Northwestern University (Evanston-IL, USA) and was a Ford Motor Company Dean Scholar. Mr. Jariwala was the Co-Chairman of the expert committee on Water Resources & Solid Waste Management of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also a member of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)’s Urbanization & Future Cities Council 2011-12 for policy formulation and reform.

John Snowdon, Head, Business Division 2, Civil and Defence Projects, UK Export Finance John currently has cradle to grave responsibility for UK Export Finance’s (formerly ECGD’s) non- aerospace project business in both the civil and defence sectors. He fi rst joined ECGD in 1975 and has since enjoyed many, varied, postings within Government and the private sector. His positions have included being Head of ECGD’s Chief Executive’s Division and International Relations, Head of the Privatisation Unit that sold ECGD’s short term credit insurance business to NCM in 1991 and Head of Treasury and Export Finance, where he established and developed ECGD’s treasury management function. In the 1980’s he worked on the European desk at HM Treasury and was also seconded for a year to the Bank of ’s Gilts and Money Markets Division. More recently he worked for 4 years on Lloyds TSB’s project fi nance team, specialising in UK PFI projects. He was subsequently appointed Corporate Finance Adviser to the Department for Communities and Local Government to assist in the development of housing PFI schemes, regional regeneration projects and help for fi rst time homebuyers. He returned to ECGD in 2006.

Laughlan Waterston, Head of Infrastructure & PPP, SMBC Laughlan Waterston is Head of Infrastructure & PPP at SMBC with responsibility for infrastructure fi nancing (excluding transportation) in the EMEA region. Laughlan has 17 years experience in banking with more than 14 years experience of project and structured fi nance. He has experience on a wide variety of projects in the PPP sector including waste/ wastewater, utilities, hospitals, schools, emergency services, prisons, social housing and defence projects and in previous banking jobs has worked on other structured fi nance sectors including transportation, commercial property, energy and oil & gas. Christopher Gasson, Editor, Global Water Intelligence Christopher is an authority on water fi nance and markets. After a degree in politics and economics at Oxford University, he worked as a fi nancial journalist and in corporate fi nance, before acquiring Global Water Intelligence in 2002. He is a regular speaker at water-related conferences, and conducts confi dential consultancy assignments for GWI subscribers on request.

Bob Kottler, Director, Biwater International A Professional Civil Engineer with over forty years’ experience, mainly in international markets working with leading UK contractors. Lived and worked in Peru, UAE, Spain, Sweden, Ghana, and Germany. Undertaken projects in Greece, Nigeria, Sudan, Sri Lanka, India, , , Philippines, Algeria, France, Panama, South Africa, Lebanon, Bahrain, and the Ivory Coast. As a Director of Biwater, has extensive knowledge of the water sector.

Ryan Murphy, Finance Director, Biwater Group Ryan Murphy is the fi nance director for the Biwater group of companies. Among other tasks he is responsible for arranging funding for developing country (diffi cult) markets which involves: project identifi cation, the development of technical and fi nancial solutions; structuring transactions, and negotiations with government/state utilities and multilateral, bilateral and commercial funding institutions. Over the past number of years he has arranged funding for sizeable projects in Ghana, Sudan, Sri Lanka, British Virgin Islands and Maldives applying ECA, PPP, BOOT and similar structures. He has worked for the Biwater Group over the past 10 years. Biwater is a signifi cant player in the water sector and has operated in over 60 countries, including Africa, America, Asia, Middle East, South and Central America and Europe. Its expertise lies in water and environmental engineering (covering water & wastewater process engineering, water treatment, sewage treatment and civil engineering); package equipment, products & services; water system ownership, investment and operations; water asset management; leisure; and related services in project and structured fi nance.

Lloyd Martin,Senior Advisor, Bluewater Bio Ltd Lloyd Martin is Senior Advisor to Bluewater Bio Ltd, provider of innovative high-performance water and wastewater treatment technologies. Lloyd’s previous appointments include: Regional Director for Severn Trent Services International and Anglian Water International, whence he was seconded for three years to the UK Government as Export Promoter for the British water industry. Lloyd has 30 years experience in the water sector: in operations; strategic planning; international business development and project delivery, in more than 40 countries world-wide. He has worked in both the public sector (pre-privatisation in UK) and in privatised water companies in the UK and overseas. He has developed water PPP projects, working on both sides of the public-private partnership, in every continent over the last 15 years. He has benefi ted from signifi cant experience within central Government, as the private sector’s export and trade advisor to the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry. He has advised numerous other countries’ governments on sustainable mechanisms for Public Private Partnerships and in best practices for utility operations, management and performance regulation.
