BRINTON PARISH COUNCIL for the villages of Brinton and in North

Chairman Clerk Mrs. D. Hyslop Anthony Hayward

3rd September, 2016 (by e-mail to Richard Buck at [email protected])

Review Officer (North Norfolk) Local Government Boundary Commission for , 14th floor Millbank Tower, . SW1P 4QP

Dear Sir,

Electoral Review of

I refer to your letter dated 28th June about the first phase of the consultation.

Notice of the consultation on the draft recommendations is awaited but the ward boundary issue was considered by this Council at its meeting on 1st September when we were made aware of two differing views as far as North Norfolk District Councillors are concerned.

This Council favours the grouping together of similar sized small rural communities which abound in this area. At present our adjoining Parish of Gunthorpe, which has an almost identical electorate, is in the parliamentary constituency (to which it objects). Gunthorpe (with Bale) and Brinton (with Sharrington) has shared a Clerk for the past 23 years and he has experience of a lifetime in this area.

We do not agree with a suggestion that this small parish is placed with a mixture of other parishes which include larger more urban areas such as and .

We suggest that a new ward is formed to include the small rural parishes of Brinton, Gunthorpe, , (with Saxlingham), (with ), , (with ), Langham, Letheringsett (with Glandford)), and . If the electoral register numbers do not add up sufficiently to suit the proposed reduction of District Councillors it is suggested that the small coastal parishes of and might be grouped with a new ward.

Yours faithfully,

A. R. Hayward, Clerk

Please note that the last paragraph has been amended on 5th September to include Hindringham
