SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 648

1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE LASTING LEGACY AND 2 CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS OF SPORTS HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE 3 AND AWARD-WINNING MURRAH HIGH SCHOOL "LADY MUSTANGS" GIRLS 4 BASKETBALL COACH ANNA JACKSON. 5 WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi sports community in paying 6 tribute to the legacy of 2018 Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame

7 inductee and longtime Murrah High School "Lady Mustangs" Girls 8 Basketball Coach Anna Jackson, the winningest female Coach in 9 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) history; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Coach Anna Jackson is nationally recognized as one 12 of the top high school basketball coaches in America. In 1998, 13 she received the unique distinction of being named the Most Caring

14 Coach in America. Coach Jackson is the only Girls Basketball 15 Coach in Mississippi high school history to claim eight State 16 Championships. Anna has guided the careers of numerous Prep 17 Stars, including Ebony Felder and Navonda Moore, both of whom were 18 named Miss Basketball and Parade All-Americans; and

21  Inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, July 22 2018;

23  Inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall 24 of Fame, July 2009;

25  Head Coach, Girls Basketball, Murrah High School, Jackson, 26 Mississippi, 1983 to present; 27 ▶ Coached Murrah Lady Mustangs Basketball Team to eight 28 Class 5A State Championships (1991, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 29 2007 and 2008): 30 ▶ Most State Titles by a girls basketball Coach in 31 state history;

32 ▶ Three North State Titles (2007, 2006 and 2000); 33 ▶ Three South State Titles (1999, 1998 and 1997); 34 ▶ Seven 8 Division Tournament appearances (2007, 2006, 35 2003, 2002, 2000, 1998 and 1991); 36 ▶ One Big Eight Championship (1986);

37 ▶ Four-time State Coach of the Year: Jackson 38 Clarion-Ledger (1990-1991, 1997, 1998-1999);

39 ▶ Two-time Jackson Clarion-Ledger Metro Coach of the 40 Year, (1998-1999 season) and (2007-2008); 41 ▶ WBCA All-America Coach, (1999-2000 season); 42 ▶ McDonald's All-America Coach, (2004-2005 season); 43 ▶ Mississippi Coach, MS/AL All-Star game, (1999)

50  Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, Callaway High School, 51 Jackson, Mississippi, (1981 to 1983);

52  Assistant Girls Basketball Coach, Lanier High School, 53 Jackson, Mississippi (1969 to 1970);

54  , (1957 to 1961, 1973); 55  Attala County Training School, Kosciusko, Mississippi, 56 (1954 to 1957); and

57 WHEREAS, Amanda Jackson's community and civic involvements:

58  Life member of the MAE & NEA teacher organizations; 59  Member, MAC, Clinic Speaker, (1982 to present date); 60  Member, Women's Basketball Coaches Association, (1995 to 61 present date);

62  Member of the LeFluer's Bluff Chapter of the Links, the 63 Beta Delta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Sorority, and New Hope

64 Baptist Church; past member of the Jackson Touchdown Club; and 65 WHEREAS, we pay tribute to a most public-spirited Mississippi 66 Coach whose mentorship and contributions have brought honor to her 67 school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:

No. 648 *SS02/R1444* ~ OFFICIAL ~ 19/SS02/R1444 PAGE 3 (crl\np) 68 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF 69 MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That 70 we do hereby recognize the lasting legacy and civic contributions 71 of Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Inductee and Award-Winning 72 Murray High School "Lady Mustangs" Girls Basketball Coach Anna 73 Jackson, and extend to Coach Jackson and her family our best

74 wishes for future success. 75 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to 76 Coach Anna Jackson; forwarded to Kennieth Green, Principal of 77 Murrah High School, and the Jackson School Board; and made 78 available to the Capitol Press Corps.
