John C. Trimble Lewis Wagner LLP Indianapolis, IN John C. Trimble is a partner in the Indianapolis law firm of Lewis Wagner, LLP where he defends insurance coverage and bad faith and complex and catastrophic exposure cases in State and Federal Court across the country. John commits about 35% of his practice to mediation, and has served as a mediator for many of Indiana’s highest profile cases. He has conducted or represented a party in more than 3000 mediations. He is Past President of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana and the Indianapolis , and has served on the Board of DRI- The Voice of the Defense Bar. He is also President Elect of the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society.

John’s involvement in mediation dates back to 1989. He is a frequent writer and speaker on an array of mediation topics. He has taught mediation in law schools and is a regular trainer in advanced mediation seminars. He also teaches lawyers how to be effective in mediation.

John is currently President of the country’s oldest association of mediators, the Texas-based Association of Attorney Mediators. In addition to his practice as a mediator, John is also regularly retained as a settlement consultant. In his capacity as defense counsel, mediator, or settlement consultant he has participated in mediation in more than 25 jurisdictions.

Harry G. Goodheart, III Mediation Resources Tryon, NC

Harry Goodheart is a former Florida trial lawyer who has dedicated his professional energy since 1988 to providing mediation in cases throughout the Southeastern United States and conducting training and seminars in conflict resolution and negotiation.

Harry has mediated over 2,500 State, Federal, and pre-litigation cases involving: commercial, tort, construction, real estate, community, securities, land use, environmental, probate, professional malpractice, employment, transportation, banking, hospital and healthcare, appellate, agricultural, class actions, law enforcement and intergovernmental disputes. He has been instrumental in establishing and assisting the Center for Dispute Resolution of the Charleston School of Law, where he also periodically serves as an Adjunct Professor teaching conflict resolution and negotiation. Harry is the past President of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators, a national association of mediators and dispute resolution professionals distinguished by their experience, skill, ethical standards and professional commitment to enhancing the practice of civil trial mediation. He is the 1998 Award of Merit recipient from the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the mediation profession.

During his trial practice in Bradenton, Florida (1973-1993), Harry served two terms as a member of the Board of Governors of (1979-1983); rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell; and is currently listed in Best Lawyers in America as Selected by Their Peers and Best Lawyers in North Carolina (Alternative Dispute Resolution). He is a Life Fellow of the Florida Bar Foundation and a member of the North Carolina Bar Lawyer Assistance Program.

Harry is admitted to The Florida Bar (1973-); served as a member of the Florida Supreme Court Rules Committee for Mediation and Arbitration from 1994 to 2001; and was instrumental in developing and revising Florida’s Rules and ethical standards for mediators. An Air Force Vietnam veteran, he is a graduate of Culver (with Honors, 1962); Washington and Lee University (BA, 1966); and the University of Missouri, Kansas City, School of Law (JD, 1973). Harry’s specialized mediation training includes the Harvard Negotiation Program with Roger Fisher and Bill Urey, Litigation Risk Analysis with Marc Victor, and Advanced Crisis / Hostage Negotiation with FBI negotiator and trainer Fred Lanceley.

Harry was instrumental in developing the Florida Twelfth Judicial Circuit’s Model Mediation Program, and served as a consultant for a number of other Circuits and for the Florida Department of Insurance (Hurricane Andrew) and Department of Labor (Workers’ Compensation), assisting in the implementation of dispute resolution systems. In March of 2014 he conducted an Advanced Mediation and Negotiation Workshop for Barrister, Solicitor and Lawyer members of the Northland Bar in Kerikeri, New Zealand.

From 1995 until 2010 Harry and Cotton C. Harness, III, of Charleston, SC, (dec.), provided Certified Circuit Civil Mediator Training Programs and Advanced Negotiation Seminars sponsored by: the Council, South Carolina Bar, the University of South Carolina School of Law, the Mecklenburg Bar, the Charleston School of Law and the National Judicial College in Reno. Harry and Charleston, SC, Attorney Tiffany Provence are now working together to continue providing the Certification Course for the South Carolina Bar.

Karl A. Folkens Folkens Law Firm, P.A. Florence, SC

Karl Folkens practices in Florence, SC, and focuses on mediation and arbitration. He has presented at CLE’s and the Judicial Conference in the areas of expert witnesses, advanced mediation techniques, effective advocacy in mediation, arbitration and mediation certification, starting a mediation practice, alternative forms of ADR, applying computer technologies to the practice of law, and legal ethics.

Karl was chair of the South Carolina Association for Justice’s Technology Committee and was its listserv administrator for 12 years. Karl served on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Winthrop University, for 20 years, including 6 terms as Board Chair. He received the 2019 University of South Carolina School of Law Compleat Lawyer Platinum Award.

Karl is a Past President of the South Carolina Bar Foundation and the Florence County Bar. He is also a Past Chair of the South Carolina Bar’s Dispute Resolution Section. He was a member of the Supreme Court’s Joint Commission for ADR. He is a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and a founding member of the South Carolina Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators. He has mediated over 4,300 cases and arbitrated over 350 cases.

Thomas “Tommy” E. Lydon McAngus Goudelock & Courie, LLC Columbia, SC

Thomas “Tommy Lydon” is an attorney at McAngus Goudelock & Courie, LLC. His principal areas of practice include commercial litigation, probate litigation and mediation. He has been a certified mediator since 2007. He received his B.S. from the University of South Carolina in 1984 and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987. Lydon is the past chair of the Consumer Law Section and Corporate, Banking and Securities Section for the SC Bar.

Harry L. Goldberg has engaged in the practice of law since receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1973. He is a managing partner of a 22 lawyer firm with offices in Columbia and Charleston. Mr. Goldberg is certified as a Circuit Court Civil Mediator and Arbitrator by the Circuit Courts for South Carolina and the United States District Court for South Carolina He a lecturer at the Bridge the Gap Program for graduation law school seniors, has presented numerous seminars on alternative dispute resolution and has lectured at various continuing legal education programs sponsored by the South Carolina Bar. Mr. Goldberg is a past chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the South Carolina Bar. He has appeared on television discussing the benefit of mediation in South Carolina. In addition to his mediation practice, Mr. Goldberg is also a litigator in cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury and business cases. He is a member of the Resolution of Fee Disputes Board and the House of Delegates of the SC Bar. Mr. Goldberg is also a member of the .
