RDFNL JUNIOR COMPETITION UPDATE

2017 Changes our Football & Netball Grand Finals were as follows:

Unfortunately, we have lost 2 teams from our 2016 Football Grand Final Results competition since the end of season 2016. Kilmore Under 16 Division 1 - Gisborne Rookies 10.5 (65) Junior FNC have joined their senior club in the defeated Kilmore 6.14 (50) Northern FNL, whilst Wandong Junior FNC have Under 16 Division 2 – Macedon 13.10 (88) defeated joined the Seymour Junior FNL. On the flip side Diggers Rest 9.8 (62) of this, Rockbank have re-entered our Junior competition with their newly formed “Western Under 16 Division 3 – Melton 15.13 (103) defeated Rams” Junior FNC, and they kick off with an Wandong 5.6 (36) Under 10 football team. At the time of going to Under 14 Turner Seniors – Gisborne Rookies 5.6 (36) publication we are still working with our Junior clubs defeated Rupertswood 4.5 (29) on the 2017 fixture, which will be finalised ahead of Under 14 Turner Reserves – Melton 6.1 (37) defeated Junior Round 1 on Sunday April 23rd. Kilmore 4.3 (27) One area we see continuing to increase is with our Under 14 Beatson – Macedon 6.5 (41) defeated Junior netball affiliations. Despite the loss of both Gisborne Rookies 4.4 (28) Kilmore & Wandong, we have still seen an increase in teams from 2016 to 2017, with the total number Under 12 Turner Seniors – Melton South 2.3 (15) going from 66 to 74. Football numbers have dropped defeated Gisborne Rookies 0.4 (4) slightly as a result of those 2 teams departing our Under 12 Turner Reserves – Rupertswood 2.2 (14) league, and some clubs finding it hard to meet last defeated Melton 1.5 (11) season’s affiliations across some age divisions. Our season commenced on Sunday 17th April & 2016 Netball Grand Final Results concluded on Sunday 4th September. We moved to 17 & UNDER Turner Division – Melton South 24 a 16 round season, but found that having the Junior defeated Rupertswood 19 finals being played in conjunction with our Senior Finals meant a big strain on resources, especially 17 & UNDER Beatson Division – Gisborne Rookies 33 in our umpiring ranks. As a result of this we have defeated Macedon 13 reverted to a 14 round season in 2017, with the Junior 15 & UNDER Turner Division – Sunbury Lions 28 GF coinciding with Senior Round 16. defeated Rupertswood 8

CLUB 18 COMPETITION by Chris “Yeendy” Yeend

In 2017, AFL Goldfields as introduced a “Club 18” competition. This is a Reserves competition for the BFNL and RDFNL Reserves competition. It comprises of players who may have otherwise walked away from the game, but who are still keen for a semi-serious/ social game of footy. Club 18 is a 16-players-a-side competition and allows clubs to retain players who may have otherwise retired, or stepped away from footy, while also helping clubs keep a strong membership and a healthy club culture. Club 18 caters for those who may have been going into ‘semi-retirement’ and provides opportunities to players who have graduated from junior ranks that may have otherwise missed out on a game. Bacchus Marsh and Sunbury Lions from the Ballarat Football Netball League and Sunbury Kangaroos and Diggers Rest from the Riddell District Football Netball League compromise the new league.

SUNBURY KANGAROOS FOOTBALL NETBALL CLUB Club Notes The Sunbury Kangaroos are looking forward to the 2017 season.

It had been a slow and rocky start to pre season being unsure of numbers etc, however we have finished much stronger and are able to field all four sides.

The girls are still gelling into their new teams and this will take some time, however we are quietly confident we have a stronger mix than we have had in previous years.

Our goal is to be competitive and enjoy the season ahead.
