Windows Movie Maker 2

What is it? Windows Movie Maker is a free downloadable program for Windows XP users. It allows you to create movies from your own computer with the use of pictures and video. Movie Maker comes with over 130 titles, effects, and transitions that make the finished product look Hollywood professional.

How does it work? • Collect audio files ( or ), video files (avi or mpg), and/or photo files (jpg). It is helpful to put them all in one folder. You can also capture video from inside MM2 (click in the movie task pane on Capture Video, Capture Video Device and follow the steps to capture from a video camera or ).

• In the Movie Task pane, follow the numbers. In section 1, click the appropriate import command to import video, pictures, or audio. They will appear in the Collection section (note: video files create their own Collections if you import them, so you may have to use the drop down box to find your captured video).

• In Storyboard view, drag all your video/photo files in the boxes in the proper order. The Storyboard • If you want any transitions added between (make them black and white, blurred, slower/faster, fade out, zoom, etc.) click under task 2 and View Video Effect. Drag and drop them on the appropriate clip.

• Change to Timeline view if you need to do any special edits like splitting a clip in two.

• To split a clip in two parts, click on the clip and press the play button in the monitor; press the split clip button to divide the clip into Transitions two parts. Then you can right click and delete the unneeded portion.

• In the Timeline, you can also make still clips shorter/longer by clicking and resizing clips.

• Though Movie Maker only has one audio track, the program allows you to superimpose two audio clips using the same timeline track.

• To add titles to your movie, be sure to be on the Timeline and then click under task 2 and Make Titles or Credits. Preview the effects in the pane and then click and drag your desired title to the time line.

• When finished, use task 3 to publish your movie. Before the movie is published it will be saved as a Project and can be opened and edited. Once a movie has been published it will be become a read-only file.

Exporting your video • DV-AVI format – Though this format is quite large (every minute of video takes up to 200 megs of space) it is the compression format that the digital video on your is recorded.

• WMV9 format – Though this format creates a great quality at small files sizes, it is more difficult to find programs to open the file.

• Movie Maker does not natively burn , but the files can be converted using programs such as Sonic Solution’s MyDVD. http://www.sonic.com/products/Consumer/MyDVD/default.aspx
