She taught high school for 17 years and has made four appearances at the UIL State OAP contest placing 2nd twice and 3rd once. She has served as a contestant, director, contest manager and adjudicator for UIL-OAP for over 30 years. Her work has been featured in The Creative Experience on Houston's PBS channel. Her students include: Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Mireille Enos (The Catch, The Killing, World War Z), Charlie Pollock (Urine Town, 9 to 5, Violet, Elmer Gantry) and Eddie Steeples (My Name is Earl, Akeelah and the Bee). After leaving the classroom she worked as an administrator for Klein ISD, Humble ISD and Houston ISD. Scott Schumann: School Administrator Dripping Springs ISD; BFA in Theatre Texas State University Received a BFA in Theater from Texas State. Professional Equity Internship Dallas Theater Three. Worked with CBS, NBC, FOX, TNT, ESPN, and The Nashville Network, plus various syndicated TV work. State appearance OAP director. Served on the UIL One-Act Play Advisory Committee. Served as State Director of UIL theatrical design competition. Served as Technical Director for Texas Thespians All-State Show. Currently an administrator at Dripping Springs ISD, also working with various colleges and community theaters. He has frequently served as a clinician, workshop and One-Act judge. Luis Muñoz: University Interscholastic League Retired; BA in Theatre and English Texas A&I; MA in Directing Southwest Texas State Luis is a graduate of Texas A&I University in Kingsville and Southwest Texas State University. He has directed well over a hundred plays and his production of Coram Boyˆ was selected to perform at the EdTA International Thespian Festival in June 2013. He also participated in 2015's National qualifier Big Fish. After graduating from the SWTSU graduate program, he taught at MacArthur High School in San Antonio where he took his students to the UIL state finals four times. Winning three seconds and a first in conference 5A. (Before 6A was created) During that time he also directed two recipients of the prestigious Samuel French Award in acting. He is a past-President of the Texas Educational Theatre Association and was honored with their Founders Award in 1993 and their Emeritus Award in 2015. He was named to the Texas Thespians Hall of Fame and received the Loren Winship Award for contributions to Secondary Theatre Education from the American Alliance for Theatre Education. He is retired from his role as Theatre Director for the University Interscholastic League and oversaw the state One-Act Play, Theatrical Design and Young Filmmakers contests. Manually input my email address without any spaces before or after my email address. This is due immediately after your respective district contest, no later than March 17th. PROGRAM INFORMATION Please send no later than Tuesday, March 17, 2020 to [email protected] Information to include are the following: • Favorite line from your play • Scenes from (if applicable) • Title • Playwright’s Name • Publishing Company • Time and Place • Cast (Character and Actor) • Crew (Name and Title) • Directors’ Names JUDGE'S SCRIPT Please mail a copy of your script to the critic judges at the addresses above by Next Day Air after district contest. It takes time for an adjudicator to receive your script so the sooner the better. Make sure your school information is on the inside of the script. • Do not use "signature confirmation" for delivery • Do not send a Xerox copy. The script will be returned. • Make sure the scenes you are not using are "x-ed" out in pencil and can still be read and that the remaining dialogue is highlighted in yellow. Some judges prefer reading the entire script and then reading your cutting, so make sure what you are not using is still legible. REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Have the following ready to present to the Contest Manager at your rehearsal. Each school will have 60 minutes uninterrupted time to rehearse. Performance times are approximate. Plays will run back-to- back. Please tell parents and audience member to arrive an hour before the approximated performance time. Thank you! Awards Ceremony at approximately 5:00 pm Critiques at approximately 5:30 pm ARRIVALS Please arrive at least thirty minutes (30) before the scheduled rehearsal time. Come to the loading dock doors and notify the Contest Manager by text message (956-489-1618) that your school has arrived. Companies will be allowed to unload props/scenery before the rehearsal time begins, however, to remain on schedule schools must arrive early. Following the rehearsal, schools may leave props/scenery in the designated storage space. UNIT SET • TMISD will provide: one (1) single window (no screen), one (1) set of French doors, two (2) Door units – one opens left and one opens right • Twelve (12) black sandbags are available • Two (2) spotlights are available • Each school’s set/prop storage will be located in the scene shop • UIL Unit Set (including any UIL pieces you bring) will be located SL • Each school will be assigned a classroom, to be utilized as a holding room/dressing room. Costume racks and mirrors will not be provided. Please remember to bring your own costuming needs, power strips and extension cords for your preparation; these items will not be provided DRESSING ROOMS Each competing school will be assigned a classroom space that will serve as its dressing room for the contest. Supplies such as extension cords, mirrors, costume racks, etc. WILL NOT be provided; each school is responsible for providing their own preparation needs. Each school may move into its classroom upon arrival the day of your contest. Please keep and leave your school’s dressing room clean and neat at all times. Food and Drink ARE PERMITTED in your school’s dressing room provided each school clean up after themselves. PERFORMANCES The casts are reminded not to re-enter the auditorium in make-up or costume after the performance. ADMISSION TO THE PERFORMANCES $5.00 General Admission tickets may be purchased at the Box Office the day of the contest. Complimentary tickets will provided for cast and crew members, directors, alternates, school administrators and bus drivers. AWARDS AND CRITIQUES The announcement of advancing plays, the presentation of awards and the oral critiques will follow the last performance as soon as the adjudicator has completed his decisions. Plaques will be presented to the top three plays. Individual medals will be given to best performers, all-star cast, honorable mention, Best Crew, Best Individual Crew Member, and All Star Crew. Excessive celebration by the students and their families (yelling, screaming) will not be permitted. Alternate school will not be disclosed. The critique is very important part of the OAP process. Please be courteous, attentive, and receptive towards the judge and other casts. I do not want to cite anyone, but have been advised by Paula to cite schools for unsportsmanlike conduct.
