4. PTA presented a check to the Parish We are truly doing wonderful things! St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School is in its 75th year and is a stable institution to our local families and to the community.

We are blessed that we are flourishing. With some families unsure of their Catholic education options for next year, we would like to invite Ihor Andruch - PTA President them to join our school. Tell all those who you know that may be presents a check to looking for an excellent school for their children. Fr. Andriy Dudkevych http://www.stnicholaschool.com/

Thank you again for all whom made this year one of our most successful we have ever had! It is because of the love for our children, dedication of the teachers and passion that our families bring to the school that we were able to present a check to Father Andriy and St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on May 9th in the amount of $72,000. Our parish helps offset our costs each year and this is one of the largest checks the SNUCS PTA has been able to provide the church.

5. Teachers’ Appreciation Week In the second week of May we celebrated our excellent teachers. "Teachers Appreciation Week". We thanked our teachers for their endless love, dedication, for believing in us, and for pushing us hard to be and do the best we can. We know that you teach not because you have a profession, but because you have a vocation to be our teacher and enjoy it. The best teachers teach from the heart not from the book. Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions. A teacher is like Spring, who nurtures new green sprouts, encourages and leads them, whenever they have doubts. A teacher is like summer, whose sunny temperament makes studying a pleasure, preventing discontent. A teacher is like fall, with methods crisp and clear, Lessons of bright colors and a happy atmosphere. A teacher is like winter, while it's snowing hard outside, Keeping students comfortable, as a warm and helpful guide. Teacher, you do all these things, with a pleasant attitude; you’re a teacher for all seasons, and you have our gratitude! May God bless you and reward you for all you do for each and every one of us, Missing on the picture: Pani Olesya, Ms Max, Pani Oksana and Mr. O. Teachers Appreciation Week JUNE 17, 2018 23 FEAST OF PETER & PAUL - June 29 (July 12)

Saint Peter

Saint Peter, whose birth name was Simon, was a fisherman by trade. His older Andrew introduced him to Our Lord. Jesus told Simon that his name would become Peter, which meant rock and would one day become the leader of the Church. Peter was the first .

One day a crowd gathered on the shores of Lake Genesareth to hear Jesus teach. Our Lord went into Peter’s boat. Jesus asked Peter to pull out a little from the shore and Our Lord began to preach. When Jesus finished, He asked Peter to sail out into the deep water and throw the nets into the water. Peter replied that he spent the entire night trying to catch some fish, but caught none. However, Peter did as the Lord ordered.

How amazed Peter was to see the huge catch of fish, so many that the nets began to tear. Then Peter realized that Jesus was the Lord. Peter feared that he was not worthy of being His follower. Jesus told Peter not to be afraid and promised that Peter would become a fisher of men.

One day Jesus preached to a very large crowd, Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish so that all these people would have enough to eat. Afterwards, He asked His Apostles to sail out to a mountain area where He could pray. While Jesus was praying, the Apostles slept in the boat. A storm broke out with a strong wind blowing and huge waves almost capsized the boat. Suddenly the terrified Apostles saw a figure walking toward them over the water. They were frightened at the sight. Then they heard the voice of Jesus saying, “Fear not, it is I.” Peter then also wanted to walk on the water. Our Lord told him to do so. Peter at first was fine but then became fearful and had begun to sink. Our Lord took him by the hand and saved him, saying, “How little faith you have.” Peter was indeed strengthened by this experience.

Peter’s faith in Jesus grew. When Jesus asked His Apostles Who they thought He was, it was Peter who said: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus was pleased with the response and said that Peter would one day lead His Church.

Saint Peter witnessed many miracles that Our Lord performed and learned to pray by way of Jesus’ example. Peter witnessed the glory of Jesus on Mount Tabor. Saint Peter was among the first to receive the news of Jesus’ resurrection. Peter ran to the empty tomb to see for himself. The risen Lord appeared to Peter and the Apostles saying to them: “Peace be upon you.” When Jesus ascended into heaven, Saint Peter took his place as leader of the Church – continuing the redemptive mission of Our Lord. Peter proved his love for Christ by his own death through crucifixion. St. Peter was crucified upside down.

The life of Saint Peter shows us that he was very human and that he too was beset by weakness. When questioned if he was one of Jesus’ disciples, Peter became terrified and denied the Lord three times. Peter showed much sorrow for denying Christ. Peter asked and received forgiveness from the Lord. Due to human weakness any of us can fall short and sin. Nonetheless, we are to turn to Christ, have sorrow and ask forgiveness for our sins.

Saint Paul

A few years after the birth of Our Lord, a child named Saul was born in Tarsus, Cilicia to Jewish parents. He was a Roman citizen by birth. Later after his conversion to the Christian faith, Saul was renamed Paul. Saul was a tentmaker by trade. Later Saul studied Law in Jerusalem. Although He never saw Jesus, he heard much about Him and His followers. At first, Saul, a zealous Hebrew, persecuted the Church.

One day journeying to the ancient city of Damascus, a strange thing happened to Saul. A brilliant light shone from the sky, brighter than the noon-day sun. Saul was thrown from his horse to the ground. He heard a voice saying: “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?” Saul spoke: “Who are you, Lord?” “I am Jesus of Nazareth Whom you are persecuting.”

Trembling with fear, Saul asked: “Lord, what do you want me to do?” The reply: “Get up and go to Damascus and there you will be told what to do.” Getting back on his feet, Saul noticed that he was blind. Those who travelled with Saul lead him back to Damascus.

For three days he could not see, nor did he want to eat or drink. A man named Ananias was brought to Saul and by the laying on of hands restored Saul to sight. Afterwards, Ananias baptized Saul. At the time of his conversion Saul was renamed Paul.

The Jews greatly feared Paul and became suspicious wondering how it was that one who previously persecuted Christians becomes a follower of Jesus. Paul travelled to Jerusalem to visit Saint Peter and other Christians there. From Jerusalem, he went to Tarsus, then to Antioch, and back to Jerusalem. Paul travelled throughout the Asia Minor, preaching the Good News and baptizing those who came to believe in Jesus as Lord.

Paul made journeys to numerous communities: Rome, Corinth, Galatia, Ephesus, Philippi, Colossae. The number of Christians grew. Paul wrote many letters (epistles) of encouragement and advice. He urged the people to be faithful to Christ. He also wrote to other disciples sharing his thoughts and experiences. To this day, we find much help and inspiration from the reading of these letters (epistles).

In doing his work for the Lord, Paul would meet with opposition. St. Paul remained steadfast in the faith. He was persecuted and even imprisoned. In the year 67 in the city of Rome, Saint Paul was beheaded by order of Emperor Nero.

From his conversion and baptism to the moment of his death, Paul was a faithful Christian, a man of loyalty and courage. He never turned away from Christ. St. Paul is a shining example for us to follow; for the Light of Christ dwelt within him. So much so, that Paul said: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ Who lives within me.” (Galatians 2:20)
