In recent years, heavy metal has grown into a massive commercial musical form. In the process it has divided itself into numerous sub-genres, i.e. death, thrash, pop, glam. . . . Since Guns V Roses released Appetite For Destruction in 1987, selling more than 12 million copies world- wide, it is apparent that metal has firmly established its place in pop music culture. The best thing that has happened to it in the last few years though is its move away from the typical "heavy metal" sound. Many bands boast that they in fact do not play metal, but hard rock or just rock V roll. These "rock" bands draw influences from the early innova- tors, specifically the Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, and espe- cially, .
