Primary and Secondary Education

Dance Teacher, West High School, Salt Lake City, Utah, 2000-2018. Teaching modern dance technique, improvisation, composition, history, integrated art studies, site-specific dance, production and conditioning to beginning through advanced dance students.

- Dance Company Advisor - International Baccalaureate Dance Curriculum teacher - Choreographer for school musicals, producer and choreographer for four annual dance concerts - Produced Multi-Cultural Assembly for ten years - Created Integrated Arts Assembly in 2006 working with visual arts, theatre, music and creative writing departments - Taught collaboratively in history, humanity, creative writing, visual art and resource classes - Mentored dance company students teaching at risk students at Hillside Elementary and after school program at Neighborhood House

Dance Specialist, Tanner Dance, Salt Lake City, Utah 1993-2000. Taught creative movement in elementary schools funded by one-year grants: Beacon Heights, Oakridge, Washington and Lincoln Elementary schools.

- Mentored classroom teachers in integrating dance in curriculum. - Taught visually- and hearing-impaired students with multiple disabilities, ages 3-9 at Utah School for Deaf and Blind and satellite classes in Ogden elementary schools - Taught studio classes for students from 2-½ years through high school - Wrote scripts for Tanner Studio Show, Kingsbury Hall. - Children’s Dance Theatre Company class, grade 10, 1996-2000.

Collaborated with Juan Adalpe and Miguel Chuaqui creating dance performance with West High School dancers incorporating technology that allows motion to initiate sound score. - Taught workshop on teaching improvisation in secondary education - Collaborated with Miguel Chuaqui in demonstrating implementation of new music technology in dance education and performance.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

SIC committee member, West High, 2016 elected position to represent teachers in school planning.

Sterling Scholar Scholarship Coordinator, 2010-2016, assisted students in preparing and submitting portfolios for state competition.

Facilitator, Salt Lake City School District, 2015. Created student learning objectives (SLOs) for dance curriculum for dance in secondary schools. The SLOs will be used for professional teacher evaluation throughout the District.

Performing Arts Department Chair, West High School, 2012-2016 ,2008-2010 and 2014-2016

Facilitator, Utah International Baccalaureate Fall conference, Salt Lake City 2012-2016 Mentored new IB dance instructors.

Facilitator, Salt Lake City School District, 2008-2012. Scheduled meetings and professional development workshops for dance teachers. Planned District Fine Arts back to school integrated arts sessions with Roseanne Henderson and other educators.

- Organized annual Utah State High School Dance Festival - Scheduled dance classes with professional dance artists for 400-500 students - Procured judges for adjudication - Produced Gala Evening Concert - Processed National Honor Society Dance Arts applications and documentation for awards

International Baccalaureate pilot for Dance in United States, 2000-2002. Worked on committee to develop and implement assessment criteria and curriculum with international dance teachers at meetings in Wales, United Kingdom and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education, 2013. Recognized as an exemplary arts educator in dance instruction by the Sorenson Legacy Foundation and the Utah State Office of Education.

Choreographer in Residence, Choreographer Lab, Snowbird Institute, Utah, 1994. Received housing, rehearsal space and daily classes, choreographed ensemble performed at end of session showing.

Artist in Residence, Another Language Dance Company, 1993. Commissioned to teach company classes, produced own concert including two works choreographed for the company.
