Last weekend, 11/11 * at SUNY Potsdam W, 4-2 RIT hosted the Concordia Moorhead Cobbers in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The 11/12 * at SUNY Potsdam W, 6-0 Tigers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 1:27 in to the opening frame, when a long shot from Marissa 11/18 * at Neumann W, 4-0 Maugeri took a Tiger bounce and ended up in the back of the net. Middlebury jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals in 42 seconds midway through 12/10 at Trinity W, 3-2 the first. Plattsburgh cut the advantage in half just over a minute later. Neither team scored in the second, 12/11 at #5 Amherst W, 1-0 leaving the Cardinals down 2-1 heading into the final frame. The Cadets’ power play unit has been stellar all season, and is currently tops in Division III at 35.8 percent (53-for-148). Gustavus Adolphus won the MIAC Championship and defeated Wisconsin-River Falls, 4-2 in a NCAA first round game on March 10. Allie Schwab scored a pair of goals to lead the Gusties. Kristina Moss is tied for second with 27 assists, while Kunichika leads the nation with 11 power play goals. ECAC West Regular Season Standings Ali Binnington leads the nation with a 0.95 goals against average, while Laura Chamberlain is in second at 1.10 goals per game. Kim Schlattman finished the season in ninth with 22 Oswego 8-8-2 18 10-13-2 points in 18 games. McCrea led the conference with 16 goals, in just 16 games, while Moss led the ECAC Neumann 8-8-2 18 9-12-2 West with 22 assists. Potsdam 7-8-3 17 11-9-3 Kunichika and Moss led the Conference with 15 power play points each, while McCrea was tops in Utica 7-9-2 16 10-12-3 game-winning goals, with four. Moss also led the conference in defenseman scoring with 28 points, eight Buffalo State 4-13-1 9 7-16-2 higer than the second place finisher. Cortland 3-14-1 7 5-16-1 Four freshmen finished in the top-10 in rookie scoring. Lindsay Grigg finished third with 17 points, Chatham 0-18-0 0 0-18-0 while Celeste Brown and Morgan Scoyne finished fourth at 16 points. Julie Hall rounded out the top-10 with 13 points in 14 games. Laura Chamberlain finished second in the ECAC West with a 1.06 goals 2011–12 Statistical Leaders against average and .948 save percentage. Points Kourtney Kunichika - 41 ECAC West/Tigers in Poll/Ranked Opponents... RIT is currently ranked first in the USCHO.com Kolbee McCrea - 38 Division III poll. They are one of three ECAC West teams to be ranked. Elmira is ranked No. 8, while Kim Schlattman - 34 SUNY Plattsburgh is No 6. The Tigers are 7-1-1 against ranked teams this season. RIT defeated Manhattanville and Norwich in the opening weekend and Amherst in mid-December. RIT tied and Goals lost to Plattsburgh in January, and swept Elmira in a home-and-home series in mid-February. RIT then Kolbee McCrea - 24 defeated Plattsburgh in the championship game of the ECAC West tournament before taking down Kourtney Kunichika - 19 Concordia Moorhead in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers paid tribute to the United States Armed Forces during its home games against ECAC West rival on Friday, January 20 and Saturday, January 21, Assists 2012 at Ritter Arena. The Tigers wore special “camouflage” jerseys for both games which were auctioned Kristina Moss - 27 off online. The auctioned off jerseys, combined with t-shirt sales, totalled $11,067 and went towards Ariane Yokoyama - 25 benefiting The Wounded Warriors Project. Kourtney Kunichika - 22 Make the Pink Rink... The Tigers partnered up with Zeta Tau Alpha sorority for the second “Make the Power Play Goals Rink Pink” event in three years. The women wore special pink jerseys in a 5-1 win over Elmira, while the Kourtney Kunichika - 11 men wore the jerseys in a 5-3 win over Canisius. All 48 jerseys were auctioned off and, combined with Kolbee McCrea - 10 t-shirt sales, reached $26,512. Kim Schlattman - 7 Individual Records Set... The Tigers set a plethora of records during the 2011 NCAA Championships. Goals Against Average Both Kourtney Kunichika and Katie Stack tied the record for goals in a game, with each scoring a hat Laura Chamberlain - 1.10 trick in 10-1 win over Adrian in the first round. Kunichika’s six points in the first round set the mark for Ali Binnington - 0.95 most points in a single game. She also tied the record for goals in a tournament, scoring five total, and Save Percentage assists in a tournament, also with five. Her 10 points for the tournament set the record for most points in Laura Chamberlain - 0.948 one tournament. Stack’s two goals in 23 seconds early in the second period against Adrian set the record Ali Binnington - 0.942 for fastest consecutive goals, shattering the old record of 2:28. Ariane Yokoyama also tied the record for most assists in a tournament with five. Power Play RIT - 44/146 (30.1%) Perfect Weekend... The Tigers didn’t allow a goal in the weekend sweep of Cortland. The last time RIT Opponents - 9/152 (5.9%) shutout its opponent for a weekend series came early last season, when they took down Cortland on November 5-6, 7-0 and 6-0. Won When Leading After 2 Periods 3/4/12 vs. Plattsburgh (2-1) In 2010-11, the Tigers opened the season by winning their Won When Tied After 1 Period 2/11/12 at Elmira (2-1) first 17 games and were unbeaten in 23 straight games. Senior Won When Tied After 2 Periods 3/10/12 vs. Concordia (MN) (5-2) Sarah Dagg was named RIT’s first winner of the Laura Hurd Award as Division III’s Player of the Year en route to setting Won When Trailing After 1 Period 3/10/12 vs. Concordia (MN) (5-2) the program’s scoring record (154 points), and earning AHCA Won When Trailing After 2 Periods 2/22/98 vs. Neumann (3-2 OT) RBK All-American honors for the third straight season. Katie Won on the Road 2/18/12 at Cortland (8-0) Stack broke the school record for goals in a career and earned All-American honors along with Lost on the Road 1/14/12 at Plattsburgh (1-3) defenseman Traci Galbraith. McDonald led the squad to its first ECAC West Championship Lost When Leading After 1 Period 1/24/09 vs. SUNY Plattsburgh (2-4) and first two NCAA Tournament wins, 10-1 over Adrian, and 5-2 over Middlebury. McDonald’s teams have a strong reputation not only on the ice, but in the classroom as Lost When Leading After 2 Periods 12/8/07 at Robert Morris (2-3) well. In five seasons, 28 of his players have earned ECAC All-Academic honors. In addition, his Lost When Tied After 1 Period 3/6/10 vs Elmira (1-2, OT) players are active in the community. On Jan. 21-22, 2011, the Tigers broke a Division III regular Lost When Tied After 2 Periods 2/2/08 vs. Utica (5-4) season attendance record with a capacity crowd, raising $10,219 to help “Black Out Heart Lost When Trailing After 1 Period 1/14/12 at Plattsburgh (1-3) Disease.” In 2010, both the men’s and women’s teams, along with Zeta Tau Alpha combined to Lost When Trailing After 2 Periods 1/14/12 at Plattsburgh (1-3) raise over $21,000 for cancer research, as part of the Real Tigers Wear Pink promotion. His first season (2006-07) was the most successful in the 34-year history of the RIT women’s Scored One Goal 1/14/12 at Plattsburgh (1-3) hockey program, as the Tigers made the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time and Scored Two Goals 3/4/12 vs. Plattsburgh (2-1) set a school record for wins in a season (22). He coached two RBK Division III All-Americans Scored Three Goals 1/31/12 vs. Hamilton (3-1) (Stacey McConell and Danielle Nagymarosi) and the leading two scorers in the country. He was named the 2009 ECAC West Co-Coach of the Year and Scored Nine Goals 12/5/08 at SUNY Oswego (9-2) coached two RBK Division III All-Americans (Sarah Dagg and Erica Owczarczak), and seven Scored 10 Goals 3/12/11 vs. Adrian (10-1) members of the 2009 All-ECAC West squad. In 2009-10, the Tigers posted a 19-5-3 mark and had two first team RBK All-Americans Scored 11 Goals 1/3/09 at Sacred Heart (11-3) (Dagg and Stack).
