From the Pastor:

Dear Parish Family,

Next weekend is ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL SUNDAY. We’ve welcome 2021 and while we are beginning to see hope for a gradual return to normalcy, it will take some time. So, this year we are being a little creative in the way we share the important message of this Annual Appeal. I have sent a letter to all parish families along with the Commitment Form for the Appeal. I will share a special message from Archbishop Hartmayer regarding the programs and the people that your contributions to the 2021 Annual Appeal support on Sunday, February 7th at all the Mass (including live-stream). There are some easy directions included in my mailed letter on how you can be a part of supporting the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal this year.

The Appeal supports such important programs, ministries, and outreach efforts like these, but there are many more:

• Seminarian education, formation of Permanent Deacons, along with care for our retired priests • Respect Life program, Hospital Ministry, Child and Youth Protection • Campus Ministry, Youth and Young Adult Programming, Marriage and Family Ministry • Catholic Charities

Your gift, your contribution to the 2021 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal makes the ministerial, outreach, education, formation and discipleship work of the Archdiocese of Atlanta possible.

We have a long and strong tradition here at St. Peter Chanel of contributing to these efforts. Your contribution, along with those from all the parishes of the Archdiocese, allow us to continue the mission of the Archdiocese of Atlanta to proclaim the Gospel of the Lord and grow our community in hope, love and service to others. We are fortunate to find ourselves a part of a vibrant and busy Catholic community here in North Georgia.

I invite you to join me in making a financial gift, a contribution to all those things that help to make us who we are – a people committed to Jesus Christ and proclaiming his Good News.

Speaking of the fruits of Seminarian Formation, our Avery will be ordained a Transitional Deacon, (last step before Ordination to the Priesthood) next Saturday, February 6th at 10AM from the Cathedral of Christ the King. (No Morning Mass or Confessions at SPC as the priests will be at the ordination.) The ordination will be livestreamed and can be accessed at https://livestream.com/archatl/ ordination or on the Archdiocese of Atlanta Facebook page.

I know that you join me in extending our congratulations to Avery and our prayers as he begins the final formation for priesthood.

See you at Mass (in-person or live-streamed),

PLANNING AHEAD: EUCHARIST ADORATION IS SUSPENDED FOR PRESIDENT’S DAY WEEKEND. Adoration is suspended Friday, February 12 before the noon Mass. It resumes Tuesday, February 26 after the 8:30 am Mass.

HAVE YOU REMEMBERED ST. PETER CHANEL IN YOUR WILL? You may think this is an odd question at this time, but it is exactly times like these that remind us to be prepared. We are reminded of how important community is for us—present and future. For me, one of the things to confirm is that I have St. Peter Chanel listed in my Will. So I did check and I do have St. Peter Chanel listed. Do you? It is a very simple process. The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia can advise you on the correct language you should use—and any other questions you might have. 3

FAITH FORMATION for FAMILIES

FAMILIES CONNECTED IN CHRIST

FAITH AND FUN Our 1st & 2nd graders have the optional opportunity to delve into the days of Creation and our 3rd– 5th graders can explore the Beatitudes more in depth. Here are some of their wonderful creations!

8 FAITH FORMATION for FAMILIES

Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time Jesus heals a man with an unclean spirit and his fame spreads throughout Galilee. The people who heard Jesus teach and saw him heal in today’s Gospel were said to have been astonished and amazed by the authority of his teaching. So compelling were Jesus’ words and actions that the news about him could not be contained; it spread quickly throughout all of Galilee. Jesus’ actions demonstrated the power and authority behind his words. Two thousand years later, the news about Jesus continues to spread. Those who follow Jesus are also called to demonstrate God’s power and authority by their words and actions. There is a saying that actions speak louder than words. Our actions also demonstrate our faith in God. Mark 1:21-28 Families, remember to open the Live Binder for this weeks reflections and reflection submission.
