1985 Hanzell Cabernet Sauvignonproduct-Pdf
1985 Hanzell Cabernet Sauvignonproduct-pdf - Sonoma Valley *Uncork & Support™ Why We're Drinking It There are few California wineries with the vision and storybook history of Hanzell Vineyards. From this pioneer of Sonoma Valley, now renowned for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, it’s something rarely seen: a Cabernet Sauvignon offering from one of the few years the winery made the variety. Perfectly stored in a wine cellar since its bottling, it’s here in tiny quantity to make for a (highly) special Cellar Collection. Hanzell’s story is no secret to Sonoma-ites today: dating back to 1948, when James David Zellerbach, head of the team who implemented the Marshall plan in Europe and selected by President Eisenhower as the Ambassador to Italy, purchased his first fourteen acre property high above the town of Sonoma. Living out the passion for wine forged in him during his European travels, Zellerbach studied the Burgundian style and brought it back to Sonoma, where he committed to “produce wines equal to the best in the world.” Teaming with Ivan Schoch, Napa Viticulturist, and Ralf Bradford Webb, Winemaker/Scientist, brought their talents together to produce some of the most outstanding wines Sonoma has ever seen. A staple of the winemaking genius is their ageability: the in-house property contains bottles from every vintage of Hanzell wines; these selections are so valuable, they rarely make it outside the cellar. All this attests to the sheer value of the Cabernet. From one of the few vintages the winery made Cabernet, it’s an interpretation of the most precious of Bordeaux-style wines. -
Hanzell Vineyards
Hanzell Vineyards In 1948, ambassador James d. ZeLLerbaCH aCQuIred 200 aCres In THe mayacamas mountains in California’s sonoma region, with the goal to create a small vineyard and winery focused on producing top qual- ity Pinot noir and Chardonnay. Just five years later, the Zellerbachs planted six acres and, in 1957, created the first vintage. They named their winery Hanzell (www.hanzell.com), a contraction of the name of the ambassador’s wife, Hana Zellerbach. It was acquired by the de brye family in 1975. Hanzell vineyards has maintained the oldest continuously producing Chardonnay and Pinot noir vines in the new World, and was the first to create and use custom-designed stainless steel temperature controlled fer- mentation tanks; use inert gas (nitrogen) to prevent oxidation; isolate and cul- tivate the bacterium that causes malolactic fermentation; and use imported sirugue French oak barrels exclusively for barrel-ag- ing wine. Hanzell vineyards has had only three winemakers in over 50 years and the original six-acre vineyard has grown to 46 acres today, allowing Hanzell to produce 6,000 cases annually: three-quarters Chardonnay and one-quarter Pinot noir. Hanzell’s exclusive current release list includes the 2007 Hanzell ambassador’s 1953 vineyard Pinot noir, which boasts initial aro- mas of warm spiced cherries, dried cranberry, tobacco leaf, orange peel, and the stoniness of potter’s clay, as well as notes of cola, toasted grain, and a brambly/dry brush quality. The 2008 sebella Chardonnay, named after the owner’s children, offers broad and forward initial aromas of pear, nectarine, honeysuckle, and wet stone, which evolve to clove, vanilla, and tropical notes of guava and pineapple. -
East Coast Based Wine and Spirits Distributor Skurnik Wines Opens California Outpost
PRESS RELEASE CONTACT: Brian Sypher For Immediate Release General Manager, Skurnik Wines West March 1, 2017 phone: 917 647 5846 EAST COAST BASED WINE AND SPIRITS DISTRIBUTOR SKURNIK WINES OPENS CALIFORNIA OUTPOST New York, NY – Skurnik Wines and Spirits, national importer for many small European family wine estates, including the Terry Theise Estate Selections from Germany, Austria and Champagne, will be expanding into the golden state of California in May, 2017. Skurnik, who is celebrating their 30th year in business this year, is well known for operating successful wine and spirits distributorships in the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, in addition to their import business. Skurnik Wines West, as the new venture will be known, will be a full-fledged distributor based in San Francisco, with a refrigerated warehouse and a fleet of temperature-controlled trucks delivering on a daily basis with full state coverage from Eureka to San Diego. Why expand to California at this time? “We’ve spent a lot of time in California, sourcing wines for our East coast businesses” said CEO Michael Skurnik, “and it became obvious that there was a need in the state for a distributor with our kind of experience and know-how—we just thought the timing was right.” The California subsidiary will be headed up by long time industry veteran Brian Sypher, who previously spent 10 years with Skurnik in NY as general sales manager before heading to Soter Vineyards in Willamette Valley, Oregon for the past 6 years as their GM. Skurnik Wines West will have a sales force of between 8-10 veteran reps to start, and grow from there. -

Cabernet Sauvignon Thrives in J. Lohr's Paso Robles Vineyards On
Cabernet sauvignon thrives in J. Lohr’s Paso Robles vineyards on the Estrella plateau on the east side of Highway 101. aso Robles may be America’s most dynamic wine region - and its most diverse. Splendid old-vine zinfandel, ageworthy and elegant cabernet Psauvignon, spicy yet supple pinot noir, and almost any white or red variety, from pinot grigio to petite syrah, are made here. World-class bottlings of viognier, roussanne, marsanne, syrah, grenache, and mourvèdre, either as beautifully inte- grated blends or as stand-alone varietals, proudly bear the Paso Robles name. Central to the region’s dynamism is an environment that is ideal for growing quality grapes and a core of talented producers, winemakers, and growers who have been attracted by the promise of Paso Robles. Discovering Paso Robles Although many wine lovers have discovered the charms of the area’s wines, it remains unknown to some and few would be able to place Paso Robles (“pass of the oaks” in Spanish) on a map of California. The town is located roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the Paso Robles American Viticultural Area (AVA), a heptagon- shaped area of more than 650,000 acres, covers much of northern San Luis Obispo County. Within this vast expanse are at least eight distinct subregions: the most important are the “Estrella Triangle” or plateau on the east side of Highway 101, the old- vine vineyards near Templeton established by Italian immigrants in the 1920s, and the Adelaida hills area near the western border of the AVA, west of the town of Paso Robles. -
2018 Coast Range Dry Riesling TS
2018 coast range estate dry riesling trisaetum story In 2003, Andrea and James Frey founded Trisaetum in one of the few places where climate, soil, and entrepreneurial spirit combine to produce some of the world's best wines. Today, the family owned and operated winery in the heart of Oregon's Ribbon Ridge AVA produces small lots of acclaimed Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and sparkling wine from its estate vineyards. winemaker’s notes This 2018 dry offering from our Coast Range Estate is textured with almost a chalky minerality with fresh, citrusy notes on the nose; the palate is strikingly concentrated and piquant, while the bright acidity is perfectly interwoven with the elegantly refined fruit, leading to a long, intense, very balanced finish. vintage & winemaking The 2018 vintage continues a streak of phenomenal vintages in the Willamette Valley. We harvested Riesling from our three estate vineyards over six different picking dates between September 28 to October 14, 2018. All Riesling was hand-picked, transported in small picking bins to the winery, chilled overnight, then hand-sorted before being gently pressed into its fermentation vessel. A mixture of oxidative and reductive pressings were employed. Fermentations lasted between 30-125 days in a temperature-controlled environment using a mixture of 70% neutral French oak casks, 20% French oak 12hL ovals, and 10% concrete eggs to produce over 76 individual fermentations. All ferments started with natural yeasts appellation: and spent 6 months in barrel on fine lees. Yamhill-Carlton AVA soil: estate vineyards Volcanic Jory Coast Range Estate (Yamhill-Carlton AVA) fermentation: This steep 53-acre site has 23 acres planted to vine and lies within the foothills of the Coast 76+ small lots were fermented in a mixture of Range Mountains marking the southwestern boundary of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. -
The Geomorphosites in Lombardy
Il Quaternario Italian Journal of Quaternary Sciences 18(1), 2005 - Volume Speciale, 39-61 THE GEOMORPHOSITES IN LOMBARDY Luisa Pellegrini, Paolo Boni, Pierluigi Vercesi, Alberto Carton, Lamberto Laureti & Francesco Zucca with contribution of Stefania De Vita Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, Università di Pavia, Via Ferrata 1, 27100 Pavia – e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT: L. Pellegrini et al., The Geomorphosites in Lombardy. (IT ISSN 0394-3356, 2005). Lombardy is a region of Northern Italy with a territory whose structure includes, from the physical-geographical point of view, a very important portion of the Alps and the adjacent Po plain with a little part of the Northern Apennines. This situation is due to the complexity of the landscape with its great diversity of historical and human aspects, frequently studied and described, but also the same physical elements which are, owing to their interest, worthy of conservation as part of the cultural heritage. As in many other Italian regions and provinces, also in Lombardy the exigence of describing and making available sites and peculiari- ties of the landscape arose, together with the suggestion of specific naturalistic tours, by means of relative guidebooks, monographs and so on. The Authors of the present work (as a part of the national research programme on ‘Geosites and Italian Landscape’) made a census of geomorphosites in Lombardy in order to their improvement, conservation and availability, both on the tourist and the scientific level. From the operating point of view, because of the high heterogeneity of the Lombard physical landscapes, it has been necessary to dif- ferentiate three main areas: Alps, Po plain and Apennines. -
