Friday 13th—Sunday 22nd March 41st Lancaster Literature Festival Litfest 2020 Letter from the Chair This year we celebrate the 41st Lancaster Literature Festival and we hope you will enjoy the programme we have to present to you. This year the festival will be running from the 13th March – 22nd March. We believe we have a programme which provides an excellent variety of events suitable for all ages. The festival will be launched on 13th March at the Priory and we welcome Professor Robert Barrett, Head of the Eden Project Learning to talk about the exciting plans for Eden North on Morecambe Bay. This is a fabulous opportunity to discover more about this project. We are delighted to bring to you two exhibitions during the festival which will be showcased at Lancaster Library. The first is called ‘Migrations’ and we are honoured to host this international exhibition in Lancaster which features the work of many artists from across the world exploring the subject of migration through illustrations. The second exhibition ‘In Pursuit of Peace and Hope’ has been created locally by young refugees covering three countries South Africa, Turkey and Uganda. The work has been led by Dr Melis Cin from Lancaster University. To bring the exhibitions to life we have our first Illustration Day featuring two illustrators. Illustration and the power of illustrations to tell compelling stories is something that Litfest wants to promote further in our programmes. We have an impressive array of authors and poets this year, beginning with best-selling Norwegian author Lars Mytting. We are also proud to showcase the work of eminent thinker A.C. -

Given the current recession and slump in house building generally it is most unlikely to be achieved. Officer Recommendation No change. We the undersigned are in strong opposition of any intrusion by development within green belt in the Keresley area. Officer Recommendation No change Representation number: 2178 Representation in regard to : Policy EQ 2 - Green Belt Verbatim Submission With regard to the Core Strategy document Keresley Parish Council would like to raise the following objections in line with the response deadline of 7th May 2009. As the main thrust within this strategy would have a massive effect on our community and existing green belt areas we do not believe that the scale of housing being proposed for Coventry is appropriate. The figures being quoted are three and a half times greater than recent house building rates of Coventry City Council have made 2001 - 2006 it quite clear that their prime objective within the strategy is to use up/utilise all brown field sites before they commence or consider the use of green belt land. We at Keresley Parish Council have no confidence in Coventry City Council's ability or desire to follow this line. -

Media releases sent out and posted online about the WN CCG urgent care public consultation, and distribution list Have your say on improving urgent care and walk-in services across North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth.Posted on 6 Oct 2015 There have never been more urgent and emergency care services available, yet people tell us they are confused about which service to use and what is available when they have an urgent care need. At NHS Warwickshire North CCG we want to commission an urgent care service that better meets local needs, is more responsive, and is simple for patients and clinicians to use. We want to buy the right urgent care services so that people are seen in the right place at the right time, first time. We have already listened to the views of many local people, and have taken these into account in our plans, but it’s important that everyone has an opportunity to have their say and so, we have launched a public consultation which runs from 6 October - 15 December. This consultation is all about where the best location is for a walk-in service to work seamlessly with other urgent care services. Our aim is to commission an urgent care / walk-in service which people find simple to understand and gets people prompt treatment or advice for their urgent care need, making best use of our medical workforce and without additional pressure on A&E. In common with the rest of England, there is a growing demand for urgent and emergency care in North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, which has led to huge pressure on hospital emergency and urgent care services. -

Nasher Sculpture Center Announces Spring Speaker Lineup for 360: Artists, Critics, Curators Monthly lecture series explores topics of modern and contemporary art and design; Artist lecturers announced for March through May 2013. DALLAS, Texas (March 1, 2013) – The Nasher Sculpture Center is pleased to announce the spring line-up for the 2013 Nasher lecture series, 360: Artists, Critics, Curators, which brings art world speakers to the Nasher for conversations about the ever-expanding definition of sculpture and the thought-processes behind innovative contemporary artwork, architecture and design. Monthly Lectures: Heather Cook, Artist Saturday, March 16: 2 pm Heather Cook transforms simple materials like denim and cotton jersey into illusionistic, topographic surfaces that occupy a space between painting and sculpture. Cook’s subtle manipulations of fabric using bleach, creases and silkscreen yield compelling objects that flow over wall and floor, evoking both classical drapery and of-the-moment Los Angeles culture. Born in Dallas, TX, Cook received her BFA in 2002 from the University of Texas at Austin and earned an MFA in 2007 from Art Center College of Design. In 2011, Cook was the subject of a two- person exhibition with Nathan Hylden at Volker Bradtke, Dusseldorf. Cook's work has more recently been featured in Crossing Mirrors, Rosenblum Collection, Paris and American Exuberance, Rubell Family Collection. -

Galenson URL: http://www.nber.org/chapters/c5791 Chapter 8: You Cannot be Serious: The Conceptual Innovator as Trickster The Accusation The artist does not say today, “Come and see faultless work,” but “Come and see sincere work.” Edouard Manet, 18671 When Edouard Manet exhibited Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe at the Salon des Refusés in 1863, the critic Louis Etienne described the painting as an “unbecoming rebus,” and denounced it as “a young man’s practical joke, a shameful open sore not worth exhibiting this way.”2 Two years later, when Manet’s Olympia was shown at the Salon, the critic Félix Jahyer wrote that the painting was indecent, and declared that “I cannot take this painter’s intentions seriously.” The critic Ernest Fillonneau claimed this reaction was a common one, for “an epidemic of crazy laughter prevails... in front of the canvases by Manet.” Another critic, Jules Clarétie, described Manet’s two paintings at the Salon as “challenges hurled at the public, mockeries or parodies, how can one tell?”3 In his review of the Salon, the critic Théophile Gautier concluded his condemnation of Manet’s paintings by remarking that “Here there is nothing, we are sorry to say, but the desire to attract attention at any price.”4 The most decisive rejection of these charges against Manet was made in a series of articles published in 1866-67 by the young critic and writer Emile Zola. -
