CAREER CONNECT AT HOME HAS GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS STARTING MAY 4 – GET READY! Starting on Monday, May 4, Career Connect at Home will be hosting a month-long career exploration opportunity for students to learn about real jobs and industries within state. If you go to www.careerconnectathome.org/ and click on schedule, which is located on the top right hand corner of the site, you will see the schedule and the various companies and organizations involved. Next to the schedule tab is the Join the Next Session tab to be able to view the presentations. Here are the topics for the month of May:

• May 4 – 8: Technology and Innovation o Companies featured are Zillow, AWS Educate, Uber, Seven2, and Bristol Myers Squibb. • May 11 – 15: Building Washington: Manufacturing, Trades & Energy o Companies featured are NWCI, iTAC, ShinEtsu, Avista, IBEW/NECA. • May 18 – 22: Dreams into Dollars: Startups, Small Business & Entrepreneurship o Companies featured are Armoire, Madrona Venture Group, MOD Pizza, MOZ, Chef Edouardo Jordan. • May 26 – 29: Serve Your Community: Education, Healthcare and Government o Companies featured are King County Council, Careers in Healthcare, Committee for Children, KUOW.

The presentations are anywhere from 30-40 minutes each day starting at 3:00 p.m. Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn about career opportunities and companies within Washington state.

DECA RESULTS – FROM THE WASHINGTON STATE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE Washington DECA had their state conference/competition at the Meydenbauer Center, in downtown Bellevue, on March 5-7. Students from throughout the state attended this large conference to compete in various individual and team categories, such as Business Law and Ethics, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Financial Services, Hospitality and tourism, and Community Service and Business Operations Research, to only name a few. All students who placed in the top 7 would have attended the International Conference that would have been held in Nashville, Tennessee, in April. However, because of COVID-19 this opportunity was cancelled. Here is the list of winners from our district. Congratulations!

There are two courses at this time that will not be able to achieve the credit which is Accounting 3 and 4. 1. If there are two colleges listed, select the one you would like to earn credit through. You cannot register for both colleges. 2. You must maintain a “B” average to receive credit. (“A” grade using our new grading system because of COVID-19.) 3. You will need to pay the $50.00 fee which will cover all the courses you complete in one school year. If you are on free and reduce lunch, your tuition is waived. Just contact your teacher or College and Career Advisor to have those fees waived.
