How you can help

Do you want a green and clean Murray Hill? Volunteers are needed for The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association's Green & Clean Committee. We need people with good organizing skills who can help organize our events and program activities. Contact us if you’d like to help with the Keep Murray Hill Clean Program, Tree Replacement Program, cleaning and mulching events and communications. Work with MHNA volunteers, social media and newsletter committees, and take charge of an aspect of the committee's work. You can have an impact on the beautification of our neighborhood! Last week, New York City set a new record with the lowest COVID levels since the pandemic began.

Effective June 15, Governor Cuomo announced that most of the remaining NYS COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. The State’s New York Forward industry guidance is now optional in most commercial settings, regarding capacity restrictions, social distancing, cleaning and disinfection, health screening, and gathering contact information for tracing purposes. The industry guidelines for Media Production, Food Services, and more are now archived on the State’s website at forward.ny.gov/archived-industry-guidance. NOTE: The Active Industry Guidance applies to Fairs & Festivals, large-scale Performing Arts & Entertainment venues (indoor with more than 5,000 capacity), Pre-K to Grade 12 Schools, professional sports with fans, public transportation. Unvaccinated individuals must continue to wear face coverings and social distance. New York State adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019- ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance.html, which relaxes the masking and social distancing requirements for fully vaccinated people in most locations, except Pre-K to 12 schools, public transit, homeless shelters, correctional facilities, nursing homes, and healthcare settings. Fully vaccinated is defined as two or more weeks after receiving all required doses of a vaccine. IMPORTANT: There is still no cure for COVID-19. Stop the spread using a layered approach:

• get vaccinated • wear face coverings when you are with people who are not vaccinated or if you are not vaccinated (consult your physician if you are immunocompromised) • maintain distance if not vaccinated or if you are with unvaccinated people (6 feet between people who are not in the same household) • practice good hand hygiene • stay home if sick (seek care if you feel seriously ill)

When community rates of infection are high, limit non-essential activities, travel and indoor gatherings with people who are not vaccinated.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are free, and are now readily available. All New Yorkers age 12+ are eligible. Public health officials recommend getting vaccinated as soon as you are eligible. Currently

5 the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are being administered. The J&J is a one-shot vaccine. Only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for people age 12 - 17.

The NYC Vaccine Finder site now tells you everywhere in NYC that vaccinations are available and the type of vaccination offered vaccinefinder.nyc.gov.

Pharmacies participating in the vaccinations are Walgreens/Duane Reade, RiteAid and CVS. You can also set up accounts on their websites, and request alerts. RiteAid is offering walk- in vaccinations. Some independent pharmacies are also offering vaccinations, including HealthSource on 34th Street.

If you prefer to be vaccinated by your primary care physician, some doctors’ offices are getting supplies of the vaccinations. Contact your doctor.

All people with disabilities, 75+ years of age, or homebound can be vaccinated at home. The one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is used for home vaccinations. Use this form to register forms.cityofnewyork.us/f/home. The NYPD administers the in-home vaccinations.

(no appointment needed) ALL New Yorkers can now get their COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at city-run and state-run sites across the city. To find a walk-up vaccination site near you, visit on.nyc.gov/walkupvax or call 877-829-4692. Nearby walk-up site: Ford Foundation, 320 East 43rd Street (entrance also at 321 East 42nd Street) (Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm). Additional, site-specific information can be found on nyc.gov/vaccinefinder. New Yorkers must show proof of age upon arrival at the vaccination site.

If you are a Veteran, 60+, and currently enrolled in VA Healthcare, the Manhattan VA Medical Center is administering vaccines. Eligible Veterans must schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-877-9267.

Regular testing continues to be recommended for unvaccinated people. It may also be required in specific situations, even for vaccinated people.

For Murray Hill/Kips Bay Bellevue, First Avenue at 26th Street, (free) no appointment necessary, wait times are unpredictable and can range from no wait until about an hour, usually the wait is not long. Be sure that they set up your patient portal so that you can get your results. Test results come back in 1-2 days.

Applications are open Summer Rising Programs Grades K-8 Summer Rising is New York City’s free summer program for any City child in grades K–8, including students with disabilities, who wants to participate. Cuomo announced $800 million in assistance for small businesses (including small for-profit independent arts and cultural organizations), experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Flexible grants up to $50,000 can be used for operating expenses, including payroll, rent or mortgage payments, taxes, utilities, personal protective equipment, or other business expenses incurred during the pandemic. Over 330,000 small and micro businesses are potentially eligible for this program, including 57 percent of the State’s certified MWBEs (minority- and women-owned business enterprises).

July 7 11am Hometown Heroes Ticker Tape Parade Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New York City will have a ticker tape parade on July 7 to recognize the covid first responders, health care workers and other essential workers who kept the

16 city going through the pandemic. The parade will begin by Manhattan’s Battery Park, travel along the Canyon of Heroes (Broadway) and end with a ceremony in City Hall Park. August 3 - Save the Date! (late afternoon/evening) National Night Out Against Crime Join this annual family-friendly community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out, which takes place on the first Tuesday in August, enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. through August 31 Applications for the Excelsior Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic school year are now open The Excelsior Scholarship, in combination with other aid programs, allows eligible full-time students to attend a SUNY or CUNY two-year or four-year college tuition-free. To be eligible for an Excelsior Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year, household federal adjusted gross income can total up to $125,000. Student must also meet the following eligibility requirements: plan to attend a SUNY or CUNY two or four-year college, complete 30 credits per year towards their program of study (including Summer and Winter terms), be on track to graduate on time with an Associate's Degree in two years or a Bachelor's Degree in four years, recipients must also plan to live in New York State for the length of time they received the award. The 2021-22 Excelsior Scholarship application is open to first-time students entering college in the Fall 2021 and current college students who have never received the Excelsior Scholarship.
