Week 1: June 15-19

Brookwood in Revue (Rising Grades 4-8) Alex Edwards Alex Edwards is excited to lead this highly successful and very popular camp in 2019! Joined by a cast of very talented theatre instructors, they will direct and produce a high quality musical theatre production in one week’s time! Campers will enjoy both individually tailored and group lessons in voice, acting, and dance. At the end of the week, students will perform a musical revue! Students will repurpose costumes, sets, and scores. Come act, sing, and perform a full length junior musical! Wish you starred in that stunning Brookwood eighth grade play? Now you can. Brookwood in Revue Pit Band (Rising Grades 4-8) Gary Backstrom Campers will steep themselves in music for a week of inspiration, skill development, and performance. The group will include guitarists, intermediate piano/keyboard players, vocalists, drummers, and bass players. Students will learn the basics of technique, music theory, and the dynamics of playing in a group. They will then work toward a final performance as the accompanying musical ensemble for Brookwood in Revue. Gary Backstrom was lead guitarist for Jiggle the Handle and currently tours with the Gary Backstrom Band. He has opened for such bands as the Allman Brothers, The Spin Doctors, Collective Soul, and recently played with Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVito as well as members of Todd Rundgren's band. He has been teaching individual music lessons at Brookwood School for over a decade. Cost: $425, Full Day

Multisport (Rising Grades 3-7) Monika Carbochova Do you love to move, run, and be active? Do you like to play and be part of a team? If so, Program Director Monika Carbochova is ready for you to join the fun! This high-energy camp will explore the following sports: soccer, flag , Wiffle ball, , Frisbee, and anything else we can find to have fun

outside. Floor , , and indoor games can also give relief from summer storms or heat. Enjoy three hours of the most delicious game buffet. Have fun with friends, keep fit, and master new skills. Monika is a math teacher at Brookwood and an experienced and passionate coach who loves working with this age group. What a great opportunity for young sports enthusiasts! A Star is Born! (Rising Grades 1-3) Stephanie Charlton Does your child love to sing, tell stories, act on stage, and play drama games? Then they'll be a star in Children's Theatre, a fun and active introduction to creative drama. Instructor Stephanie Charlton will inspire your rising thespian. Beginner or intermediate students will discover the magic of life on the stage and have a blast doing it! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Mad Scientists (Rising Grades 1-3) Chloie Johnson How many times a day do you hear the question, “Why?” Mad scientists will join a group of similarly curious individuals quest to figure out the why, but also the what, when, where, and how. Lead by aspiring scientist Chloie Johnson, campers will be able to tackle their questions with their hands and minds. In a week long journey of puzzling questions and even more exciting answers, campers will concoct mysterious mixtures, learn all about the world around us, and conduct their own experiments. Ninjago (Rising Grades K-2) TBD Ever wanted to be a Ninjago Master? Now's your chance! Join us this summer as we hone our expertise as Ninjago builders and engineers. You'll learn the skills you need to build everything Ninjago! Enter the ever changing world of LEGO as we push our Ninjago skills to the limit! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Creative Movement (Rising Grades K-1) Erin Ronder Neves Come dance, move and groove your way through different styles and eras of dance and music. Create your own choreography to your favorite song. Explore dancing in different settings around Brookwood and using different props. As a student-centered class, the content will be tailored to students' interests, ideas and collaborations. Sometimes all you gotta do is DANCE! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Tadpoles (Rising K) Riley Carrier Calling all rising Kindergarteners to the Cutler Pond! Tadpoles is Summer@Brookwood’s camp for our youngest bunch of campers that went a half or full day of fun. Ranging from free play, art, games and much more. We even offer rest time for the Tadpoles to refresh during the day. Riley Carrier leads this school of Tadpoles through a daily schedule of learning to play and share, all while having a swimming time. Cost: $220 Half Day / $425 Full Day

Week 2: June 22-June 26

Pop Rock Band (Rising Grades 4-8) Gary Backstrom Band camp at Brookwood is a great way to get your kids involved with the skills it takes to be in a real band for fun or professionally. “Pop Rock Band” is led by national touring artist, Gary Backstrom, who has taught guitar, bass, voice, piano, and drums, as well instructed many ensembles in the style of rock, pop, jazz and R&B at Brookwood School. He will guide a week-long exploration of what it takes to play in an ensemble setting and the skills needed to make a tight, cohesive band. Children will learn how to dial-in great tones on amps, sound systems, and how to effectively use their voices and musical instruments. Children can expect to cover music from Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Daft Punk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, as well as classics from the Beatles, U2, and more. The week will culminate with a pop rock performance for friends and family members that none are sure to soon forget! Cost: $425, Full Day

Second Hand Growers: Community Farming (Rising Grades 6-8) TBD Calling all nature enthusiasts, green thumbs, and people who like to eat! The world is a beautiful place and it produces the food we need to live. No one knows this better than farmers. Join us this summer as we visit several different local farms, learn from their expertise and get a chance to get our hands dirty while getting a chance to become a farmer yourself. Cost: $450, Full Day

Rainbow Unicorn Fan Club (Rising Grades 3-5) Marci Johnson Come ride a unicorn down a rainbow and bounce on some pink cloud slime with Miss Marci! This enchanting class involves all things magical and beautiful: rainbows, unicorns, sparkles, flowers, and making every wonderful kind of slime you can imagine: Cloud Slime, Fluffy Slime, Rainbow Slime, Edible Slime, Butter Slime, Glitter Slime We will dance, weave flowers through our hair, learn all about unicorns and rainbows, and we … will create magic! Yoga (Rising Grades 1-4) Erin Ronder-Neves Erin Ronder Neves is a certified RYT 200 Yoga Alliance teacher. Come breathe, move and flow through a morning of Vinyasa inspired yoga. Practice will focus on restoring energy, strengthening the body and releasing tension. All levels welcome. Bring water and dress in comfortable clothes. Soccer (Rising Grades K-5) Enrique Polletta Campers will enjoy a week out on the turf field with Brookwood’s very own kindergarten teacher, Enrique Polletta. We’ll focus on improving individual technique, skill development, and the fundamentals of team play. Perfect for players of all levels, our program challenges each camper to expand his or her athletic horizons.

Outdoor Explorers (Rising Grades K-2) Chloie Johnson Come on a nature walk with instructor Chloie Johnson and a whole group of outdoor enthusiasts. In a weeklong journey to understand and appreciate nature, campers will craft, read, write, and paint the plants and animals they see. Also, we will safely learn how to catch and observe various bugs and frogs found all over the scenic Brookwood campus. Our hands may get a little muddy along the way, but sometimes that’s the best part. Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Photojournalism (Rising Grades 6-8) TBD Can you tell a story without words? Can you see the story? More than anything photography is "a way of seeing." Come join us as we train our eyes to see the stories, images, and moments in front of us while also using our hands to capture and edit these images. Students will learn basic to advanced manual camera functions, explore portraiture, landscape/nature, still life, and present a complete photo story in our gallery at the end of the week. Day trips will be taken to photograph different locations and partnerships are being explored with non-profits who would benefit from photo stories of their work. Cost: $425, Full Day

Miniature Painting & Game Play (Age of Fantasy) (Rising Grades 6-8) Ben Golding Have you ever wanted to paint a miniature hero from a world of sword and sorcery? Ok, probably not, but hear me out, it is awesome. Miniature painting and tabletop games are an excellent artistic and creative outlet. Your camper will work on their fine motor skills to carefully control a brush and paint a figure smaller than your house key. Working on such a small surface can seem overwhelming at times, but with patience and the right teacher (both of which will be provided), your child will be able to create a miniature masterpiece to take home and display. Not only will we be painting, campers will also be invited to participate in games of Age of Fantasy, a miniatures game where players fit forces against one another in a quest for dominance! Musical Theatre (Rising Grades 3-6) Erin Ronder Neves This is Erin Ronder Neves first class at Brookwood and we could not be more excited! Erin is a K-12 Certified theatre teacher, specializing in implementing the arts into curriculum. Come dance, sing and act your way through some of your favorite Broadway musicals! Explore being "Elsa" from Frozen, "The Genie" from Aladdin, and many other favorite characters from the Broadway stage! Each week we will engage in choreography and character work to build confidence in body, mind and creativity! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Anyone Can Cook! (Rising Grades 2-4) Cathy Marrero During this culinary camp adventure, we will teach the basic steps to create and complete delicious dishes through the art of cooking. From smoothies to paninis, we will focus on a category of recipes each day. We will feature side dishes/appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages as we hone our chef skills and develop comfort in the kitchen with easy recipes that are sure to be favorites for a lifetime. LEGO Engineering (Rising Grades 1-4) Lindsey Cohen Engineers wanted! Students will practice sketching their construction projects and then using a variety of Legos to build anything they want. Each day will focus on different types of construction project-skyscrapers, their dream home, bridges, just to name a few- will all be designed and built by students. In addition to set projects, students will be given free building time to play and explore their inner engineering abilities. Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Tinker Time! (Rising Grades K-1) Erin Koeplin If you like to build, experiment, try new and old methods, collaborate, work independently, work aimlessly (no such thing, of course!), and with purpose, then this camp is for you! In “Tinkertime,” we will use a great variety of materials to create independent and group projects that we will discover throughout the week. We will use our own creative minds, friends, recycled and repurposed materials, and well, just about EVERYTHING as inspiration! Bring a project that you already have begun and build upon it, or come with an open plan! The world is your oyster, and you, it’s pioneer. Safari: Mystery Field Trip Adventures (Rising Grades 2-4) Chloie Johnson Are you just dying to try a whole bunch of new things and explore a whole bunch of new places this summer? Then this is the perfect camp for you! In a dramatic change of pace, get surprised every day with a new and exciting field trip! Put together by senior surprise expert and trying new things enthusiast, Chloie Johnson, join the lively crew in an unexpected, week long experience. Last year’s activities included a hiking trip, laser tag, paddle boarding, tie-dying, and a pottery painting session. This year’s camp is something you won’t want to miss, so sign up today! Girls’ (Rising Grades 6-8) Tatum Galuski Join Tatum Galuski for a week full of lacrosse drills to better your skills! Tatum is a rising college freshman who is both a DIII and lacrosse committed athlete. If you've never played before... don't you worry--this is for everyone! This camp will cover everything from passing, shooting, and game strategies. Tatum is really excited to work with you to learn the and pick up some new tricks as well to build upon the fundamentals. Dungeons & Dragons (Rising Grades 4-8) Ben Golding Do you like storytelling and adventure? Dungeons & Dragons camp will all each camper to step into the role of a mighty adventurer, flexing their imagination and creativity to explore new and unknown worlds, meet magical creatures, and save the world from an unknown evil. Dungeons and Dragons is a wonderful collaborative storytelling game which helps heroes, young and old, build social skills, creative problem-solving strategies, creative thinking, broaden personal horizons, and (shh, don’t tell the kids) it is great math practice. DIY Mini Golf Course (Rising Grades 3-5) Lindsey Cohen Students will learn how to design and then create their own mini golf course. Each day, students will be given a variety of materials that they will use to help them create their own mini golf course. Students will work together, as well as individually to plan out, construct and then play their own round of mini golf. With a focus on utilizing critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, students will face a variety of challenges and

Make Your Own Ukulele (Rising Grades 3-5) Alex Edwards Learn the ukulele! Not just any ukulele, but your very own that you create! In this hands on camp, you will build your own ukulele, decorate it to your heart’s desire, and learn to play it in a mere five days. Are we amazing or what?! Ballet (Rising Grades 1-3) Evelyn Burke New York City dancer and choreographer Evelyn Burke is offering a Ballet dance camp. This class begins with a fun warm up teaching dance vocabulary and technique. Students will learn a fun dance routine that will be performed at the end of the camp. Ceramics (Rising Grades 5-8) Mariah Tinger Come get muddy! Use your imagination! Create unique projects by hand! Join experienced educator and clay artist Mariah Tinger to create a variety of fun things out of clay such as musical instruments, a nightlight, wall pockets, mini-mugs or big mugs, ring dishes and a tray for knick-knacks. Everything you create will be food safe and dishwasher safe but of course we recommend that you or your parents hand wash your treasures. All supplies, clay, glazes, tools included. Finished pieces can be picked up about a week after the last class. Cost: $450, Full Day

Street Hockey (Rising Grades 4-8) Chris Tighe Come have some fun playing street hockey with Brookwood’s very own Chef Chris. Learn how to shoot, pass and score, all while having fun! Mornings will be filled with everything street hockey and how to play safely. No experience needed. Bring comfy clothes and water to keep yourself in the game. BrookWoodWorks (Rising Grades 3-6) Henry Oettinger Does your child enjoy working with their hands? Do you think of them as "young engineers"? Would they like to plan and build three cool take-home projects this summer? Then BrookWoodWorks is for them! We'll take advantage of Brookwood's recently updated Sloyd Shop to create birdhouses, custom clipboards, and 3-D wood puzzles. Dr. O is a woodworking hobbyist and has led several years of boatbuilding for the Recess Regatta. No special skills are required, just creativity and willingness to learn! Cost: $250 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Sing, Dance, & Create! (Rising Grades 2-4) Tiffany Wilson Let's move, sing and make our own music this summer! No previous music experience required. Just a body willing to move and a voice willing to sing. We'll explore new instruments, write our own songs, learn new dances and pick our favorites to perform on our last day together! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Dr. Frankenstein’s Laboratory (Rising Grades 1-3) Lindsey Cohen Science is so much fun! Learn how to make a variety of different polymers, create different reactions, build a volcano out of Papier Mache, and watch it erupt. Learn about chemicals and then use that knowledge to tie dye shirts. With a heavy focus on chemistry, some biology, zoology and physics, students will be channeling their inner “mad scientist” and learn just how much fun and interesting science is! Magic Treehouse (Rising Grades K-2) Marci Johnson Does your child enjoy storytelling, art, exploration and adventure? Would you like your child to cultivate academic skills in a magical, fun environment? Then the Magic Treehouse Camp is for you! This dynamic camp will ignite your child's imagination through innovative, vibrant activities. Using the Magic Treehouse series as a starting point, students will listen to a story and then use the text to explore worlds of outer space, Viking Ireland, Ancient Greece, and more. Those campers who attended this camp last year will experience brand new activities. Brookwood parent and graduate of Harvard’s Masters of Education program, Marci Johnson will bring these stories to life each day for your child, creating a world of light, laughter, and stardust wishes! Let’s Bake! (Rising Grades K-1) Erin Koeplin Do you love to mix and measure, divide and decorate? Do you enjoy getting messy and experimenting with ingredients? Does working with your friends to create something delicious and decadent interest you? Baking is a way of life and a way to bond with friends, family, and neighbors. In “Let’s Bake!”, you will learn how to read and follow a recipe, work with a variety of delicious ingredients, and create your very own cookbook filled with scrumptious recipes to take home! We will bake cookies, bread, vegan, gluten-free, muffins, pizza...the list is endless for the time and bakers abound! Let’s get bakin’! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Make a Scene! (Rising Grades 3-5) Lindsey Cohen Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your own scenes and dioramas? Then this is the workshop for you! Students will focus on creating a story, and then will use their story to make a model of their scene. Using different building materials, scenery and figurines, students will be crafting their own model to then take home at the end of the week. Students will first be completing several smaller models, and then will be working on one large scene to be taken home with them. Students will be given the creative freedom to write a story, and then create it! Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Basketball (Rising Grades 5-8) Kristin Papnikolas Coach, referee, and former player Kristin Papanickolas brings 20+ years of experience and knowledge of the game of basketball to Brookwood after-school programs! Kristin has coached players ranging from age 6 through high school seniors and she continues to referee basketball for grades 1-8. Players of all skill levels will be able to develop and improve their basketball skills while having fun! Sneakers required. Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Board Game Extravaganza (Rising Grades 4-8) Ben Golding Board games are bigger now than they have ever been, but how do you find out what games are “good,” or what games you even like? In this camp we will play a collection of games from different genres, learn what kind of games we prefer, and have a blast in a collaborative gaming environment. Board games are a great way to learn appropriate respect and boundaries with your peers - each game has a different set of rules and it only works if we all agree to follow them. Most games have a winner and a loser, which is a difficult thing for some children. We will take time each day to discuss how to be a good sport, how losing provides a lesson, and the importance of facing a difficult challenge. On top of an extensive collection of games that will be provided, campers are welcome and invited to bring in games from their own house to share with their peers! Photography (Rising Grades 1-4) Tiffany Wilson Do you love taking pictures? Ever wonder how it all works? Come and find out how and why cameras do what they do. We'll explore all different types of cameras and something crazy called "film"! Then we'll put our skills to the test by various daily photography challenges; portraiture, natural light vs. artificial light, trick photography, still life, etc. At the end of the week, we'll pick our favorites and invite all our friends and family to a gallery showing off our hard work! Mad Scientists (Rising Grades K-3) Chloie Johnson How many times a day do you hear the question, “Why?” Mad scientists will join a group of similarly curious individuals quest to figure out the why, but also the what, when, where, and how. Lead by aspiring scientist Chloie Johnson, campers will be able to tackle their questions with their hands and minds. In a week long journey of puzzling questions and even more exciting answers, campers will concoct mysterious mixtures, learn all about the world around us, and conduct their own experiments. Inspired Artists (Rising Grades 2-3) Marleen Wood This camp uses famous artists and illustrators as inspiration for creating artistic masterpieces. Campers will enjoy learning about the life and motivation behind five famous artists before creating their own impressionist paintings, clay sculptures, self-portraits, glass flowers, and cubist compositions. We will also examine works of children's book illustrators and create collages and paintings in their styles. “Inspired Artists” will be led by Brookwood School’s after-school instructor extraordinaire, Marleen Wood. She ties together her love of art history with her passion for encouraging children to create art. Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Brookwood's Project Runway (Rising Grades 6-8) Cathy Marrero Clothing is our portable environment and affects what we do, how we feel, and influences how we act. With so much at stake, how does the designing process begin? How does one get inspiration? Who is the client? What are the steps from initial sketches, to factoring in functionality, and producing a finished product? What about cost? If you have a passion for fashion, this week-long adventure into the dynamic world of apparel design is the course for you! Launch into the unknown design challenge and embrace the “secret” materials revealed in your designated bag of tricks! Enjoy work room time for sketching, creating, collaborating, cutting, fitting, sewing, stylizing, refining and FUN! The week culminates with our own runway show featuring an ensemble created by YOU! Yoga (Rising Grades 4-8) Marleen Wood Students will explore yoga and mindfulness beginning with a mindfulness exercise to set the tone. After getting settled in, students will move through a fun, physically accessible activity for all levels, age-appropriate yoga flow. We will wrap up with a final group yoga and team-building games. Cooking (Rising Grades 4-8) Erin Kopelin Children will learn the joy and value of being a young chef and how important it is! This interactive learning experience provides an opportunity to develop a life-long love for the culinary arts. Through igniting children’s natural curiosity, they will create in a welcoming environment and be encouraged to explore and experiment. Harry Potter and the Magical World (Rising Grades K-2) Lindsey Cohen Calling all Wizards and Witches. Have you ever wanted to learn more about Harry Potter and the Magical World that Wizards and Witched live in? If so, then this is the class for you. Immerse yourself in the Harry Potter magical world by picking your own magical name, designing a wand, and making a book of spells, with wand motions. Students will be learning more about different characters and locations, get to choose their House, and make a House Shield. Students will explore the school using a handmade marauder’s map, will participate in Herbology class by making clay mandrakes, face up against Professor Snape as they try their hand at potion making class, and even play a game of quidditch. Mountain Climbers: Hiking Adventures (Rising Grades 5-8) Chloie Johnson Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to finish out the summer by saying you climbed a mountain? In this camp led by an official REI card-carrying member, Chloie Johnson, campers will accomplish that and so much more. During the week, our group will travel to local, state, and even national parks to hike, explore, and appreciate nature. Surrounded by nature, we will learn about everything from the local ecosystems to preservation to rock climbing. If you’re looking for your next big adventure, this is it! Cost: $450, Full Day

Song Writing (Rising Grades 5-8) Tiffany Wilson Every once in a while you sit down and write a song. Sometimes it turns out pretty great, sometimes just okay. It's time to take your potential to the next level! Join us this summer as we dive deeper to reach those songs that are waiting to be written. We'll challenge our musical abilities as well as our lyric writing, using exercises from the same book they use in songwriting courses at Berkeley! Hip Hop (Rising Grades 3-6 ) Evelyn Burke New York City dancer and choreographer Evelyn Burke is offering a Hip Hop dance camp. This class begins with a fun warm up teaching dance vocabulary and technique. Students will learn a fun dance routine that will be performed at the end of the camp. CSI: Crime Scene Investigations (Rising Grades 3-6) Lindsey Cohen Student will be learning a variety of different fingerprinting techniques, hair and evidence collection and examination. Students will first be learning the different ways to collect and examine evidence before being tasked with solving a crime. Students will then learn how to document the evidence and conduct science experiments to figure out who did it. Students will then take that evidence to the Brookwood Court, where students will be given different roles, such as lawyers and witnesses to make their case to the Judge to help solve this caper! Cost: $240 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Ceramics (Rising Grades 1-3) Mariah Tinger Come get muddy! Use your imagination! Create unique projects by hand! Join experienced educator and clay artist Mariah Tinger to create a variety of fun things out of clay such as musical instruments, a nightlight, wall pockets, mini-mugs or big mugs, ring dishes and a tray for knick-knacks. Everything you create will be food safe and dishwasher safe but of course we recommend that you or your parents hand wash your treasures. All supplies, clay, glazes, tools included. Finished pieces can be picked up about a week after the last class. Cost: $230 +$185 for Day Camp in the afternoon

Birds of a Feather (Rising Grades K-2) Adria Saunders Has your child ever asked “What kind of bird is that?”, “What do birds do when it rains?”, or “Where do those birds live?” Join us as we observe our local birds and the different habitats available on Brookwood’s beautiful campus. We will identify different species, how they build their nests, what they eat, and the sounds they use to communicate. CIT Program (Rising Grades 9-10)

Available All Weeks Brookwood’s CIT (Counselor In Training Program) is created to help foster one’s leadership, problem solving and various other skills that will set CIT’s up for success in life. Within the CIT program campers will learn from hands on experience. CITs will be in camps working alongside counselors and Lead Counselors everyday. They will have the opportunity to help out in specialized camps in the morning as well as in our general day camp in the afternoon including, art, sports and free periods. CITs will also have frequent opportunity to give and receive feedback to improve their skills that they already possess to help the succeed in the future as a counselor and/or in life. Cost: $200 per week
