Hurry Up and Wait... Federal Budget Delays Apron Rehab Project In Mid-July 2017, CCB was ready to go out for bid on the Apron Rehab Project only to be told by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) our project had been delayed until after October 2017. CCB subsequently found out the initial delay was due to the FAA having not secured a signature from the State of in a timely manner. During the second week of October 2017, Cable management met with FAA officials to discuss the status of the Apron Rehab Project as well as the many other projects planned by CCB. At that time, the FAA acknowledged that since our Apron Rehab Project was "shovel ready", meaning CCB is ready to initiate the project, our project would be moved to the top of the FAA list of capital projects to be funded. At the time, it was great news as CCB anticipated the federal budget being approved and our project given the green light within a matter of days. Well, as our luck has it, the federal government hasn't passed a budget yet and, in fact, actually shut down for a few hours. As of this writing, the federal government is currently operating under a temporary appropriation authorization which ends February 16, 2018. Should the federal government not pass a budget by then, the government could either shut-down again or Congress could pass another temporary appropriation authorization. Regardless, until the federal budget is passed, our project will not be funded. So we continue to wait...

Don't Race the Gate! We continue to have several instances here on the where owners of vehicles come in claiming the entry/ exit gates to CCB malfunctioned and caused damage to their property. And everytime, after reviewing the video and gate security software, we find those vehicles have been clipped by the entry or exit gates because of driver error - the driver was in a rush and trying to “race” the gate meaning they were following another driver in or out of the Airport, not using their gate access pass, and relying on the sensors in the ground to stop the gates in time. Each entry and exit gate has three sensors. Two sensors are on the card reader side of the gate and one is on the opposite side of the gate. While these sensors work fine, they are placed and designed to handle vehicles that have stopped at the card reader, activated the gate, and slowly pass through the gate. They are not designed to open the gate in an instance for someone racing the gate. Even though the sensor will pick up the racing vehicle, there will still be a momentary lag before the gate starts to open. Additionally, when the gate starts to close and then is suddenly directed to open, it will have a slight whipping action. Taking all these items into consideration, there have been a few mirrors taken out by the gates. But once again, it happens due to driver error. To avoid damage being done to your vehicle (or a vehicle possibily racing behind you) and to avoid allowing anyone trying to sneak onto the Airport grounds, we ask that you use your gate access pass each and every time upon entering and/or exiting the Airport and that you pull forward and wait until the gate closes behind you. And note: if you are impatiently rushing in and out through the gates in order to avoid taking the time to get out your gate access card you are doing so at your OWN risk. Damage done to the gate and/or your own property will be your responsibility and you will be charged for the damage that occurs. Please help us in keeping the Airport a safe place to be and those that don’t belong here out.

Manned UNICOM to Cease April 1, 2018 With the implementation and publication of our AWOS IIIP, UNICOM will no longer be manned after April 1st, 2018. For many years, CCB staffed UNICOM to provide radio checks, landing advisories, and parking assistance; however, since the AWOS has come on-line, UNICOM has primarily been used for radio checks. CCB does not find it necessary at this time to have a person manning UNICOM when the AWOS provides pilots the data needed for landing into Cable. If Airport staff is on the field, they will monitor UNICOM via a hand-held radio. It is important to remember that being able to communicate is an essential component of aviation safety. We do recommend the use of radios and/or handhelds to communicate with each other. The use of a handheld even in those planes where technology might not be as advanced or where a full radio set is impractical can provide an extra layer of security for pilots.

Airport Access Changing for Certain Vehicles Beginning March 1st, 2018, the Airport will require ALL recreational vehicles, large trucks and trailers to use only the Dewey Way entrance to access the Airport. Gate cards for these tenants will be programmed accordingly. If you will be affected by this change you will be notified, in writing, by the Airport about the change. Directing traffic through this entrance will help minimize any incursions on the airport where these bigger vehicles get in the way of moving aircraft. This change will also help us maintain the condition of the already deteriorating pavement around the airport grounds. We thank you for your cooperation in the matter.
