Health Clinic 2011 Summary Report

The Plant Health Clinic received 2518 plant samples in 2011. Numbers were 13.4% below the previous year, with fewer field crop samples being the reason for the decline. Specifically, there were 547 fewer soybean samples in 2011 than in 2010. The Plant Health Clinic received fewer field crop samples due to repeated flooding in the spring, followed by prolonged heat and drought conditions. The largest number of samples in 2011 was for the category trees/shrubs (31%), followed by turf (26%), field crops (16%), vegetables (14 %), fruits/nuts (7%), perennials (2%), annuals (1%) unknown (1%), weeds (1%), other (0.60%), and forage (0.40%) Note that there was a 56% increase in turf samples over the previous year.
