We recognize that there are barriers to participating in arts programming for some children and families. The Children’s Festival strives to remove these barriers through a variety of outreach initiatives:

Outreach Adopt-A-School Program attendance matches funders with schools to provide a day of out-of-school learning at no cost to 340 underprivileged schools.

265 participants from 3 schools

Project Smile brings the sights, sounds and colour of the Festival to the following hospitals and care facilities: • GRIT • Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital • Stollery Children’s Hospital

Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival of the Arts 5 FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHT

PAPER PLANET Immersive Theatre Performance meets Interactive Art Installation Paper Planet had kids wrapped up in a forest of fun as they explored a recyclable woodland of towering cardboard trees and fantastical paper flora and fauna. Using only materials from recycled, reused and repurposed sources kids helped to populate an ever-growing installation with their unique creations and costumes. There was also a chance to chime in and add noises to the live soundscape of Mother Nature. Equal parts immersive theatre and interactive art installation, performers from Australia’s Polyglot Theatre collaborated with children to create an imaginative one-of-a-kind theatrical experience. Representatives from the City of St. Albert’s Utilities and Environment department were also on site to answer questions and educate kids about St. Albert’s Be Waste Wise program, as well as encourage more responsible practices from all citizens.

13 Northern Alberta International Children’s Festival of the Arts TESTIMONIALS - TEACHERS

I love everything about the Festival – ease of booking, variety of entertainment, helpful staff and volunteers, organized layout, as well as convenient school bus loading and unloading. I have been attending for four years and each year the Festival grows and strives to make things work better than the year before. It’s a well-oiled machine!

The offerings are so diverse. There is always so much to do and not enough time! Kids always have such a great time.

I love the opportunity to give kids experiences outside of the classroom! Some of our students would never have the chance to attend with their families.

The location is exceptional and there are plenty of volunteers to help when needed. The variety of performances was awesome and allowed my class to enjoy completely different experiences!
