Dublin Port Tunnel

INTRODUCTION Precast Concrete is one of the leading suppliers of lining systems to the Irish tunnelling industry. Having successfully completed a major drainage project in Limerick, Banagher Precast Concrete was awarded the contract for supply of segmental tunnel linings for the prestigious Port Tunnel project. With a total value of over 450m Euro the contract is the largest of its type ever undertaken in the country. Banagher Precast Concrete have ISO 9001 accreditation and design and manufacture to European and British standards. We have developed internal inspection and test plans which ensure all precast tunnel elements are manufactured to the highest standards as required in segmental tunnel lining construction.

DUBLIN PORT TUNNEL PROJECT BACKGROUND

» The and Dublin Corporation announced their intention to award the contract for the design and construction of the Dublin Port Tunnel to NISHIMATSU MOWLEM IRISHENCO (NMI) on 12th October 2000. The Consortium is composed of the following member firms: ¾ NISHIMATSU Construction Company Limited: A Japanese firm with extensive tunneling experience around the world ¾ MOWLEM and Company PLC: One of the leading civil engineering contractors in the UK ¾ IRISHENCO Construction Company Limited: A major Irish civil engineering contractor

» Banagher Precast Concrete was awarded the contract to produce the precast segments by NMI in July 2001. The lining consists of 3,037 rings with an internal diameter of 10.84m and a thickness of 350mm. Each ring is made up of six segments, weighing 8 tonnes each, and one key segment weighing 2.3 tonnes. Casting began in November 2001 and was finished in June 2003.
