1 | Epidemiological Highlights Week 8, 2021 Highlights: COVID-19

As of week 09, (1–7 Mar 2021) there are 421 confirmed cases of COVID- 19 (SARS-CoV-2), 31 488 samples were tested. This week (week 09), 15 new confirmed cases detected, 927 samples were tested, test positivity was 1.6%.

As of this week (week 09) • Median age of tested and confirmed cases is 10 (0-120) and 18 (0-90) years • Female among tested and confirmed cases is 55% and 53% • All 34/34 camps have confirmed cases (C24-58, C2W-41, C3-33, C15-28, C6-25) • A total of 10 deaths from COVID-19 with the case fatality rate 2.4% • The incidence is 49.0 per 100,000 people with the growth rate 0.6% • The overall positivity of all samples tested was 1.3%

▪ Total 418 (out of 421) confirmed cases have been investigated by Rapid Investigation and Response Team (RIRT) and captured through go.data.

▪ Total 1,605 contacts have been identified and registered for follow up

▪ Out of those, 1,398 (87%) contacts have been completed the follow up

▪ Thirteen (13) contacts (1%) tested positive during follow up period

▪ Average number of contacts is ~4 per positive case

▪ No geo clusters have been found out in camps

▪ Total 170 health facilities registered in EWARS

▪ Only 132/170 weekly reports received on time in week 9

▪ Timeliness for this week is 78%

▪ Seventy-four (74) alerts were triggered in week 9

▪ All alerts were reviewed and verified by WHO EWARS team, the number is less than that of previous week (82 in week 8).

8 | Epidemiological Highlights Week 8, 2021 Highlights:

▪ Acute Respiratory Infection (19.0%), Diarrheal Diseases (4.4%) & Unexplained Fever (1.0%) are the diseases with highest proportional morbidity in week 9.

▪ Suspected SARI death under enhanced Community-based mortality surveillance has been continued since week 28, 2020. Seventy-three (73) suspected SARI deaths have been reported so far and reviewed subsequently by Rapid Investigation and Response Team (RIRT) for COIVD-19.

▪ Total 9 SARI deaths were considered as death due to probable COVID-19 till date.

One (1) suspected diphtheria case was reported in go.data in week 9

A total of 9 234 case-patients were reported since 2017 to till date • Confirmed = 343 • Probable = 2 802 • Suspected = 6 089

Total case reported in 2021 = 48 • Confirmed = 1 • Probable = 24 • Suspected =23

Last confirmed case was reported in week 1 (4 January 2021)

In total 47 deaths were reported, last death reported on 25 October 2019.

In week 9, 13 suspected measles cases were reported through weekly reporting. In total 129 cases reported in 2021, out of those 114 cases reported through case-based surveillance and samples collected for laboratory confirmation.

▪ A total of 3,348 cases of diarrhoeal diseases reported in EWARS in week 9.

▪ Among which 2,198 cases (2.9%) reported as acute watery diarrhoea (AWD), remaining 790 (1.0%) and 360 (0.4%) cases as other and bloody diarrhea, respectively.

13 | Epidemiological Highlights Week 8, 2021 Cholera Surveillance

• Total eight (8) Cholera RDT positive/culture cases reported as of W9 2021. Out of those 1 was confirmed and remaining 7 were discarded by culture.

• In 2020, total 28 RDT/Culture positive cases for Cholera detected through sentinel testing. Specifically, 5 became confirmed by culture - 2 from Ukhiya Host, 1 from Teknaf host and 2 from Refugees.

• In week 9, 44 deaths were recorded - • 64% (n=28) were due to causes classified as “Others” • 14% (n=6) as still birth (Born Dead) • 2% (n=1) as maternal Death • 2% (n=1) as injury. • 18% (n=8) as neonatal (<28 days old)

• Out of reported deaths, 29.6% occurred in health facilities, 61.4% at homes and 9.0% from community/public places.

• Partners to report all mortalities into EWARS platform using both case and event-based reporting as applicable.
