INVC NEWS Dehradun, The Chief Minister Harish Rawat has given orders to complete the project report regarding the National Games to be held in Uttarakhand in 2018 at the earliest. He gave directions to complete the work of constructing International stadiums at Dehradun and Haldwani as well. Along with this, he emphasized on ensuring that the Sports College is completely equipped. An outline will also be drafted on where all the 32 sports are to be conducted across the state. Space should be allotted for ‘Khel Gaon’ to be developed in Dehradun and Haldwani. A high level meeting was organised at the Bijapur Guest house between the Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Sports Minister Dinesh Agarwal and President Uttarakhand Olympic Association Rajeev Mehta late on Tuesdaynight. Giving directions during the meeting, the CM Harish Rawat said that a consultant must be appointed for development of basic infrastructure and a meeting of trainers, sportsmen who have participated in National Games and several federations must be organised at the earliest. They should also be asked for suggestions. He also gave orders that tournaments for several games in 2015 must be organised at village block and district level. Then it should be promoted to National Level so that our youth get maximum exposure and can win accolades for the state. He suggested that support from Olympic Association must be taken for conducting competition of sports such as Kabaddi, Wrestling, Volleyball and Kho Kho among others. He spoke about forming a sports calendar to encourage sports and for inculcating interest in sports amongst youth. The CM during the meeting emphasized on developing sports at village Level. Proper facilities must be ensured in stadiums coming up in Munsyari and Pauri. They should be developed as training centers so that national level games can be played here as well. He added that a few national level games must be organised in the state in 2016 so that the youth can perform better in 2018. Sports must also be encouraged in other local institutes. He has also asked for a proposal for funds for sports at the earliest. Speaking during the meeting, the Sports Minister Dinesh Agarwal said that a special team will also be sent to review the arrangements at National Games being held in Kerela this year. He stated that he is also holding continuous reviews at the department level. He has also requested to the Chief Minister to send a letter to Union Minister to ask for ﬁnancial support. The President Uttrakhand Olympic Association has ensured all support to the state government for arrangement of the National Games. Present on the occasion were technical Advisor to the CM Ranjeet Singh Rawat, CS N Ravishankar, Secretary Finance Amit Negi and Director Sports Shailesh Bagoli among others.
