TODAY’S GAME: Today is homecoming for Monmouth University, with the Hawks looking to break into the conference win column and snap a two-game slide. Kennesaw State makes its first appearance at Kessler Field, bringing a 4-3 record and a 1-1 conference mark into the contest. Today’s game marks the 117th and final game at Kessler Field in its current configuration, with demolition set to begin on Tuesday. The Hawks, 1-1 at home this year, have had just seven losing home records in 24 years at Kessler. Monmouth’s 23 seniors will also be honored before kickoff. Today’s matchup will air on ESPN3 as part of the Big South’s television package, with Matt Harmon and Todderick Hunt calling the action. The Owls bring one of the most explosive offenses in the Big South into the contest, averaging 481 yards per game, including 293 on the ground. The team established over 30 new school records that season and featured one of the top offenses and defenses in Division I-AA. Prior to accepting the head coaching position at Monmouth in August of 1992, Callahan served as assistant coach at Colgate University for eight seasons. He also had coaching stops at Wagner, Syracuse and The University of Albany. Callahan was a two-year standout on the playing field at the University of Rochester. He roamed the Yellowjackets’ defensive backfield from 1975 to 1976. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Rochester in 1977. Callahan and his wife, Ann Marie, reside in Spring Lake Heights. They have two children, Julia and Kevin Jr. who is an offensive assistant at Columbia University.
