Paperback. Book Condition: New. 210 x 140 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book. December 3-4, 1969. Keith and Mick stood at the same microphone at Muscle Shoals, lights dimmed, splitting a fih of bourbon, and simultaneously sang the melodies and harmonies on the three songs that they had recorded over three days: Brown Sugar, You Got to Move, and Wild Horses. That s your rock n roll fantasy right there, pal. A six-piece band working in a tiny converted coin factory across from an Alabama graveyard, on an eight-track recorder, with no computer editing or Autotune, recorded three songs, representing 30 percent of one of the greatest rock n roll records of all time. So tells Bill Janovitz of the making of the inimitable triple-platinum album, Sticky Fingers, which hit number one in the US and the UK in 1971, skyrocketing the band to superstardom. To Bill, all artists reveal themselves through their work and the Rolling Stones are no dierent: Each song exposes a little more of their soul.

  • The Odyssey, Book One 273 the ODYSSEY
05_273-611_Homer 2/Aesop 7/10/00 1:25 PM Page 273 HOMER / The Odyssey, Book One 273 THE ODYSSEY Translated by Robert Fitzgerald The ten-year war waged by the Greeks against Troy, culminating in the overthrow of the city, is now itself ten years in the past. Helen, whose flight to Troy with the Trojan prince Paris had prompted the Greek expedition to seek revenge and reclaim her, is now home in Sparta, living harmoniously once more with her husband Meneláos (Menelaus). His brother Agamémnon, commander in chief of the Greek forces, was murdered on his return from the war by his wife and her paramour. Of the Greek chieftains who have survived both the war and the perilous homeward voyage, all have returned except Odysseus, the crafty and astute ruler of Ithaka (Ithaca), an island in the Ionian Sea off western Greece. Since he is presumed dead, suitors from Ithaka and other regions have overrun his house, paying court to his attractive wife Penélopê, endangering the position of his son, Telémakhos (Telemachus), corrupting many of the servants, and literally eating up Odysseus’ estate. Penélopê has stalled for time but is finding it increasingly difficult to deny the suitors’ demands that she marry one of them; Telémakhos, who is just approaching young manhood, is becom- ing actively resentful of the indignities suffered by his household. Many persons and places in the Odyssey are best known to readers by their Latinized names, such as Telemachus. The present translator has used forms (Telémakhos) closer to the Greek spelling and pronunciation.

The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street 1) Rocks Off 4:32 (Jagger, Richards) The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street (1972) I hear you talking when I’m on the street, Your mouth don’t move but I can hear you speak. What’s the matter with the boy? He don’t come around no more, Is he checking out for sure? Is he gonna close the door on me? And I’m always hear ing voices on the street, I want to shout, but I can’t hardly speak. I was making love last night To a dancer friend of mine. I can’t seem to stay in step, ’Cause she come ev’ry time that she pirouettes over me. And I only get my rocks off while I’m dreaming, I only get my rocks off while I’m sleeping. I’m zipping through the days at lightning speed. Plug in, flush out and fire the fuckin’ feed. Heading for the overload, Splattered on the dusty road, Kick me like you’ve kicked before, I can’t even feel the pain no more. But I only get my rocks off while I’m dreaming, I only get my rocks off while I’m sleeping. Feel so hypnotized, can’t describe the scene. Feel so mesmerized all that inside me. The sunshine bores the daylights out of me. Chasing shadows moonlight myster y. Headed for the overload, Splattered on the dirty road, Kick me like you’ve kicked before, I can’t even feel the pain no more.

  • The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones How Does This All Work? Before rock and roll changed everything about the industry, sound studios used to find songs for artists and sometimes they found artists for songs. They handled everything for all but the biggest stars-song selection, arrangement, mixing, titles, packaging, all of it. This is the world the 20-something Stones and their 19-year old manager stepped into in 1964. The Stones battles with Decca Records would be epic over the duration of the contract their young manager negotiated for them. They seemed to be constantly breaking ground with their covers in the 60s and 70s. Never short of self-belief, even when it was provided by an inexperienced teenage manager, those battles began right out of the starting gate with the Stones untitled debut album. The story of the Stones first album cover is the story of a young man’s bold ideas and Nicholas Wright’s modest photographs. A writer on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of release of this album said, “So while we should be celebrating The Rolling Stones’ first album for “Route 66,” “I’m A King Bee,” “Tell Me” and all the rest; telling tales of Phil Spector shaking maracas while uptight old Gene Pitney looned about the place like Bez, its greatest legacy to rock’n’roll came courtesy of the wrapper it came in.” That was the beginning of the revolution that became a way of life. The Untitled There were 642 days between the Rolling Stones July 12, 1962 first performance at the Marquee Club in London and the release of their first Advance orders for the Stones first album album on April 17, 1964.

  • HONK in March, 2019 Tobias Hall Announced the Stones New Compilation When He Tweeted the Following
HONK In March, 2019 Tobias Hall announced the Stones new compilation when he Tweeted the following: The album was released April 19. On November 27, 2019 Tobias Hall was still grinning when he Tweeted, “2019 highlights part 2: Illustrating the cover of a @therollingstones album will go down as a career highlight for me, thanks again to the guys at @studiofury for getting me on board .” (That is a raised hands emoji.) HONK appeared 2,349 days after Grrr!, the Stones grand 50th anniversary compilation. It’s fun to see this young artist’s enthusiasm. Let’s take a dive into its story. Asked how he got involved with the HONK project. Hall said, “I was commissioned by Studio Fury, who art directed and designed the sleeve artwork.” Studio Fury has worked on Blue and Lonesome as well as HONK. Where did the name come from? Title Studio Fury was asked: “How did the album get the name HONK? Do you know how or why it was so named?” They replied, “Yes, but it’s not public knowledge so no comment I’m afraid.” The origins of this title remain a mystery at this point, in fact that has become the Holy Grail of Stones album titles. It was already determined when Tobias Hall, artist and designer began his work. That leaves us room to speculate and who speculates better than fans? Discussion at popular sites like iorr.or and SteveHoffman offered some ideas. Negative comments are always in more abundant supply that positive ones and this holds true with the title.
