The summer break is now over for most of us with school back and 16 Donut Drive Couplings holidays a thing to look back on with, hopefully, fond memories. Whilst there seems to be no end in sight for the hot weather down in this part of the world, 40 degrees again today!, 19 Lotus Mini’s the summer sporting highlights are now all behind us (how good was The Ashes! ) and a 20 A somewhat different biography new year of Lotus Club action awaits. of Colin Chapman On the Lotus Notes front it looks like this edition will be the last LCQ/LCV-only edition 21 Lotus 23B as our colleagues from CLA have expressed a desire to combine their skills, news and interesting activities with us so I for one look forward to a boarder spread of news and contributors for future magazines. REGULARS On the Lotus Cars front for the year we have the release of the Exige S soft top to look forward to for those who like the wind in their faces while driving. (I wonder what I 02 LCV President’s shed would get as a trade in on the Elise?) Also the Elise S Cup R takes its place in the stable alongside big brothers and lets hope it makes its way down under for those who enjoy 03 LVQ President’s prologue track driving. On a somewhat less promising front is the financial status of the marque with 04 Combined Calendar of events recent rumour files reporting: Once again, the future of Group Lotus seems unsecure after the company made a £167.800.000 net loss in 2013 and breached its banking covenants. 22 Classifieds Proton is planning to re-finance Lotus’ debt to smooth the road ahead but its deputy chief executive, Lukman bin Ibrahim, said that until this has been competed, “there is a material uncertainty which may cast significant doubt over the group and the company’s ability to continue to operate as a going concern”. Whilst this news seems a bit like the eternal newspaper headlines it cannot be a sustainable position for our favourite carmaker so for all Lotus followers we hope the year brings brighter news on this front. Also awaiting us this year is a new set of rules in F1 that, along with Daniel Ricciardo taking over from Mark Weber, will make for an interesting and unpredictable outcome for the first few events on the calendar. Lets also hope that the Lotus name makes its presents felt with Romain being able to stay up near the front of the field this year. In this edition there are a number of articles that wrap up last year’s activities as well as a most interesting one about Jochen Rindt, a Lotus driver from an earlier era, thanks to Peter Hill. Enjoy the magazine and happy motoring, restoring, socialising or simply tinkering with your toys in 2014. CKJ 111 COVER IMAGE: A photo by Vyvian Black at last years AGP. But what is it? Perhaps a Lotus 18 variant? Some say that it’s not actually a Lotus at all. If anyone can shed light on it please do so. COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 Touring Car Racing - Overview Touring car racing is an auto racing competition of advanced racing cars. This sport is very popular in many countries like Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Sweden and Norway. However, its speed cannot be compared with Formula One. The touring car series consists of one or more endurance races with time duration of 3-24 hours. Basically, the event starts with a standard body shell but racing equipment like engines, suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires are permitted. Races of touring cars are conducted on road courses and street circuits. There is a very little technical difference between racing cars and touring cars. A casual observer can never point out the difference between the two. Touring cars come from family cars like sedans, hatchbacks and do not support high technical level. Just like any other racing game, all the riders participating in this game focus on covering the road track within the shortest time span and be the first one to win the game. The riders have to be quick and sharp as there can be a margin of less than one-tenth of a second between the first three finishers. History The British Touring Car (BTC) Championship, commonly known as touring car series, was founded in 1958 as British Saloon Car Championship and was renamed in 1987. This car racing series is conducted every year in the UK and is governed by the TCA. THANKS FOR READING – VISIT OUR WEBSITE www.educatererindia.com COMPILED BY : - GAUTAM SINGH STUDY MATERIAL – SPORTS 0 7830294949 The Touring Car Series Championship is following numerous national and international regulations like FIA Group 2, FIA Group 1, FIA Super Touring and FIA Super 2000.

Auto racing 1 Auto racing Auto racing Sebastian Vettel overtaking Mark Webber during the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix Highest governing body FIA First contested April 28, 1887 Characteristics Mixed gender Yes Categorization Outdoor Auto racing (also known as automobile racing, car racing or motorcar racing) is a motorsport involving the racing of automobiles for competition. History The beginning of competition Motoring events began soon after the construction of the first successful gasoline-fueled automobiles. The first organized contest was on April 28, 1887, by the chief editor of Paris publication Le Vélocipède, Monsieur Fossier. It ran 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from Neuilly Bridge to the Bois de Boulogne. It was won by Georges Bouton of the De Dion-Bouton Company, in a car he had constructed with Albert, the Comte de Dion, but as he was the only competitor to show up it is rather difficult to call it a race. Another solo event occurred in 1891 when Auguste Doriot and Louis Rigoulot of Peugeot drove their gasoline-fueled Type 3 Quadricycle in the bicycle race from Paris–Brest–Paris. By the time they reached Brest, the winning cyclist Charles Terront was already back in Paris. In order to publicly prove the reliability and performance of the 'Quadricycle' Armand Peugeot had persuaded the organiser, Pierre Giffard of Le Petit Journal, to use his network of monitors and marshalls to vouchsafe and report the vehicle's performance. The intended distance of 1200 km had never been achieved by a motorised vehicle, it being about three times further than the record set by Leon Serpollet from Paris to Lyon.[1][2] Auto racing 2 Paris–Rouen: the world's first motoring contest On July 23, 1894, the Parisian magazine Le Petit Journal organized what is considered to be the world's first motoring competition from Paris to Rouen.
