Royals Notes - Kansas City Royals @ Tampa Bay Rays - Monday, August 20, 2012 This & That SALVY DOING IT ALL--22-year old receiver Salvador Perez is displaying what the Royals were missing when he was down for the first three months of this season due to knee surgery...he was a key component in two of KC’s three weekend wins over the White Sox, twice breaking ties on Sunday to give the Royals the lead while on Friday night he delivered a 2-out, 2-run double to snap a 2-2 tie in the seventh and stake Kansas City to a 4-2 triumph...he obviously doesn’t take too kindly to having intentionally walked before coming to the plate, as Butler was passed just prior to the seventh inning double on Friday and the eighth-inning game winner yesterday...since returning to the Majors on June 22, Salvy has excelled both at the plate and behind the dish, hitting safely in 32 of 42 games and only once has he gone more than one game without a hit...Perez has also homered 8 times...defensively, after allowing baserunners 6 steals in 7 attempts in his first 4 starts, he has responded to nab 8 of the last 15 attempted stealers...lately, teams are simply refusing to run on Perez, attempting just 9 stolen bases in his last 26 starts. ERRORLESS STREAK HALTED--The Royals had their 9-game errorless streak halted on Sunday when Dewayne Wise went “five-hole” on Eric Hosmer in the eighth inning, knocking home a pair of unearned runs...it was KC’s first miscue in 92.0 innings, coming up 14.0 innings shy of the club record set in 1997 and matched in 2011...the Royals failed to turn a double play yesterday, but continue to rank second in the Majors with 129, trailing only Minnesota’s 148...individually, Mike Moustakas leads all big league third basemen in double plays turned with 34, matching ’s club record set in 2006. NEXT STOP FENWAY PARK--The Royals are here through a Wednesday matinee and then head to a crowded Boston, where KC will have to wait until the Angels leave town before opening a series with the BoSox on Friday night in Fenway Park...the Halos are in Beantown through Thursday, while the Royals will enjoy an off day...Kansas City took 2 of 3 from the Red Sox when they visited Kauffman Stadium in early-May...the Royals possess the slimmest 217-216 advantage in the all-time series, including a 97-119 deficit in Fenway Park...KC was 3-4 vs. the BoSox last year, 2-2 in Fenway. PEN “K”O-ING THE OPPOSITION--Kansas City’s bullpen has leaned on the strikeout of late, fanning 55 over its last 47.0 innings of action, the fourth highest total in the A.L. for August behind Oakland (63), Toronto (62) and the Angels (58)...Tim Collins has been the biggest source of the “K” by fanning an American League reliever-leading 81 and already setting the club southpaw record out of the pen, eclipsing Andrew Sisco’s 2005 mark by four...next on the agenda for Collins could be the overall club mark for a reliever of 103 set by Jim York in 1971...the last 8 outs that Collins has recorded have all been via the strikeout dating back to August 11 in Baltimore. BILLY MAKING WAY ON TEAM CHARTS--Royals designated hitter Billy Butler was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks on Sunday to up his career hit total to 901 after recording his 900th on Saturday night...he’s now 10th all-time on Kansas City’s hit list, passing Carlos Beltran (899) and the second youngest in franchise history to attain 900 at 26 years, 122 days, trailing George Brett, who eclipsed 900 at 25 years, 357 days...only one active player has more hits than Billy prior to his 27th birthday, Detroit’s , who has 913 hits at 26 years, 340 days...next for Billy is his 100th career home run after hitting #99 at home on Friday night...he has recorded the most home runs by a Royal since Carlos Beltran connected for 26 in 2003...Butler is already in the top 10 all-time in average (3rd, .298), slugging pct. (4th, .467), on-base pct. (5th, .362), doubles (8th, 203), RBI (10th, 452) and 12th in homers (99), 4 shy of 11th-place Mike Macfarlane (103). NED AT THE HELM--The 16th full-time manager in franchise history, , was named to his post on May 13, 2010 and has recorded a 180-228 ledger since taking the reins...he recorded career win #600 on May 21 in ...this is his second stint as a big league manager after nearly six full campaigns at the helm for the (2003-2008)...he compiled a 457-502 record with the Brew Crew including a 166-146 mark in his last two seasons...Yost, a catcher during his playing days, began his coaching career in the Atlanta organization, including 12 straight seasons on Bobby Cox’s big league staff (1991-2002).
