Adjunct Interchangeable Needle Case

I have a Boye NeedleMaster Interchangeable Needle Kit that has been converted to use ChiaoGoo cables. I love it.

But I've also purchased extra, short, ChiaoGoo tips in the smaller sizes, and they ramble around loose in my Needlemaster case. Every time I open it, I drop at least one.

So I decided to make a holder for those extra tips that would fit in the NM case. This case is basically a zippered pouch with a couple of bands of raised stitches to stick the extra tips thru. You can put a piece of cardboard inside the pouch to make it stay flat(fish), or you could use it for storage of extra bits & pieces.

The ideas that came to me were: •Knit in the round •Purl ridges to hold tips. •Zippered end(s) to make pocket(s) for cables & stuff

This would probably make a nice travel case, too, as it's the right size to store a few pairs of tips, several cords, and the other detritus of a knitter's case. But its intended use is still to corral my extra tips.

Measurements: 5.5”/14cm high x 6.5”/16.5cm wide

Gauge: 25 sts=4in/10cm stockinette in the round

Materials • : Sport/DK weight acrylic or other sturdy yarn. You want a yarn that will hold its shape when repeatedly poking tips in, pulling tips out, and zipping/unzipping the top. I used Hobby Lobby Baby Bee Sweet Delight, 377 yds/4 oz •6.5 inch • Needles: US 4/3.5mm needles, 2 short (16in or 24in) circulars (If you want to adjust this for DPNs or Magic Loop, go for it. But the instructions assume 2 circulars.) • knit-picker or snag-fixer miniature latch hook • Markers: 2 normal, 1 removable (optional, clip this into knitted fabric to mark beginning of rnd) •optional: piece of cardboard to insert in pocket for stability Directions Cast on 80 sts (40 per needle) using turkish, figure 8, JMCO or other similar cast on (Overview of Circular Cast-Ons about halfway down the page, under Two Needle Methods)

Setup rnd: Knit 4, pm, knit 32, pm, knit to end of rnd

Knit in the round until 1.5in/3.8cm from bottom of pouch

Reverse Band (4 rnds) Knit 4, sm, purl 32, sm, knit to end Repeat above rnd for 3 more rnds (4 total) or for 0.5”/1.25cm

Knit in the round for 1.5in/3.8cm Garter or Reverse Band (as above) Remove stitch markers Knit in the round for 1.5in/3.8cm Knit across front, ending at start of back. (Height from extra row will help offset pulling down from purl sections.)

Leaving last round live and on needles, put knitting aside while preparing zipper.

Prepare zipper for insertion. Very good instructions are at TechKnitter's blog. (Don't forget to watch linked video!) With zipper prepared, use Russian grafting, 3-needle, or I-cord bind off on the right side to attach zipper to pouch.

Weave in ends. Tah dah!
