AAM_005_Gala_2019_Program_Apr18_SinglePg_FA.indd 21 4/18/19 10:01 AM BOBBIE BU RGERS

Bobbie Burgers is interested in the process of decay, transformation, and metamorphosis. In her paintings, atmospheres and phenomena of the natural world come to life through a multitude of painterly gesture and composition. Critic Sky Goodden has described Burgers’ work: “ Burgers negotiates between flat surfaces and kaleidoscopic perspectives to affect a delicate bedlam. A biological quality to her painting pervades, but one allowing for emotional resonances. In Burgers we see what Frank Stella sought: 'What the best art does, is give us the best of both worlds – the perceptual and the pictorial.' Here both worlds are accounted for, with every end contained in its own beginning."

Bobbie Burgers was born in 1973 in Vancouver, BC. She received a B.A. in Art History in 1996 from the and has studied in Aix-en-Provence, France where she returns often to recapture the life, light and spirit of Provence that she imbues into her painting. She has exhibited widely across the United States and Canada.
