Coach Howard Schnellenberger was very pleased with his team's per formance after last week's heartbreaking 14-7 loss to third ranked Texas. "We bounced back strong tonight after last week's loss. A lot of peo ple thought our team would be down, but we showed great spirit and beat a good Vanderbilt team," said Schnellenberger. Vanderbilt came into the game with a 1-2 record, but the two losses were against strong Alabama and Mississippi State teams and the Commo dores were expected to challenge the 'Canes. Miami, however, totally dominated the game from start to finish On the Hurricanes' opening drive, they marched 56 yards in nine plays for a touchdown. The key play of the drive came at the Vanderbilt 31, when Jim Kelly found wide receiver Larry Brodsky cutting across the middle for 22 yards and a first down at the nine. .our plays later. Kelly sneaked it over al the one yard line to give the 'Canes a 7-0 lead. The Hurricanes had the ball two more times in the first quarter and scored on both possessions to lake a 16-0 lead after one quar ter of play.
