Oviedo High School Principal’s Weekly Update November 2, 2020 We just finished our Spirit Week this past week. SGA did a wonderful job organizing and advertising the days. We had a lot of participation by the student body. Even though Homecoming has been delayed until second semester, we will still celebrate a court during our November 6th Home football game halftime. We all felt strongly about keeping in tack as many activities as possible for our seniors. We will be selling Holiday Trees again this year. Please consider buying one from Oviedo High School in order to support our athletic programs. We will publish dates and times soon. Thank you for your support. Congratulations to our Varsity Football team for winning the Mayor’s Cup on Friday! Most likely we will replay HHS in the play-offs on November 20th at home. Stay tuned for more information. This past week we have seen a decrease of positive COVID-19 cases and the amount we have had to quarantine individuals that have been exposed. At any time, anyone is able to access the COVID-19 Dashboard for Seminole County Public Schools. All tickets will be purchased through GoFan and redeemed electronically on your smart phone at the gate. Upon purchasing tickets, please make sure you do NOT validate them prior to entering the gate. There will not be paper tickets available at the gate. All Fall athletic events, with the exception of Varsity Football, at Oviedo High School are currently available for purchase in GoFan through this link: https://gofan.co/app/school/FL1808. For our home Varsity Football games, tickets for general admission will go live online on Monday at 8:00am the week of the home Varsity Football game. For our away games in Orange County, they are only permitting two spectators per student-athlete and providing an allotment of tickets to each school that will be distributed by the coach. For all athletic events, masks are required by SCPS. The administration has the authority by FHSAA to stop the game and require everyone to wear a mask and wear one appropriately meaning covering the nose and mouth area. Please refer to the guidelines for further details. Stop the Spread How can you help? 1. If your child is feeling ill or displaying any potential symptoms, please err on the side of caution and keep them home. Every student does have 10 absences that a parent can write a note for making them excused. This is per semester, so you don’t have to worry. Also, at home a student can log into eCampus/Canvas and stay up to date on the class material. 2. If your child has recently been tested for COVID-19 due to symptoms or potential exposure, please keep them home until you’ve received the results of your test and know they are negative. 3. If your student tests positive, please immediately email [email protected] or call the school at 407-320-4050. Oviedo High School Principal’s Weekly Update December 7, 2020 Currently the administration and guidance are working on the second semester master schedule. We do have 10 teachers returning to OHS from teaching SCPS students in Seminole County Virtual School. Seminole Connect will continue through second semester. Please realize that we will try our best to maintain your student’s schedule and teachers, however with the addition of 10 teachers and our goal to reduce class size, there will be changes. Thank you for understanding and working with us. At this time, please refrain from emailing the counselors unless it is immediately important as they are busy working on schedules. Our goal is to have a smooth transition in January for your student. We have an Angel Tree at OHS for our homeless students. They have asked for gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target, Publix, Ulta, and fast-food restaurants. If you are able, we’d appreciate any donations. The amount does not matter as these students appreciate any assistance. Roz Baird in the front office is collecting the gift cards this week if you are able to help. We will make sure the students receive them prior to the holiday break. Thank you! OHS is in the process of renovating portions of building 4. The district is adding an access door to the athletic training room and a door to separate the football area from the PE area. This renovation will be done by January and should not impact any classes or students.

For safety reasons, PLEASE call OHS at 407-320-4050 and make an appointment before arriving on campus unannounced. Oviedo High School Principal’s Weekly Update October 12, 2020 QUARTER #2 STARTS TODAY! A Message from Dr. Daniel - It is hard to believe that quarter one is now over, and we are moving into quarter two. Our teachers have done a phenomenal job teaching both face-to-face and Seminole Connect. As we begin quarter two, I just want to remind everyone that it is even more important for students to wear masks and socially distance especially in closed areas such as classrooms. We did have students return to campus face-to-face which increased classroom attendance. We will remain on three lunches and block schedule. Since the beginning of school, we have had two positive cases and the cases and quarantines are community acquired. This is true for OHS and for most of SCPS meaning we are working diligently to keep our campuses safe for our students and employees. I also would sincerely like to thank our families during athletic events. Thank you for socially distancing and wearing masks. This has allowed us to continue to play sports and give our students that experience. I attended several senior nights last week, and I really enjoyed celebrating our Class of 2021. Although a different kind of year, we have adjusted. The pictures were amazing and the celebrations special with cupcakes, balloons, signs, and reflections of the last four years as a Lion. I appreciate the parents that support our programs and thank you for always remembering how to celebrate our students.

We have made it through the majority of the school year despite the challenges we have faced during the pandemic. For the remainder of the year, we will be working on testing, graduation/senior activities, and next year’s schedule. Also, if you need anything from OHS, it would be better and more efficient for you to call first and/or make an appointment. With prior notice, we can gather what you need for you prior to your arrival decreasing your wait time. Also note that parent/teacher conferences are still being administered through WebEx for the remainder of the year. Our main school number is 407-320-4050. Ishika Nag represented SCPS at the Orlando Science Center's Lockheed Martin Science Challenge. At the LMSC, 1st place winners in physical science categories from eight local Regional Science Fairs face off against each other in a warm-up for the State Science and Engineering Fair later this month. This year, Ishika Nag was awarded 1st Place in Environmental Engineering! Congratulations to Ishika! We are incredibly proud of the great science research work she has done this year and her skill in showcasing those efforts to the greater community! MPA looked a little different this year. Although OHS did not participate in virtual MPA this year, we hired 3 FBA judges to come out and judge the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble.
