cornerstonestud.com.au Cornerstone Stud Stallions 2015 $22,000 Zebedee $17,600 Good Journey $8,800 Ambidexter $6,600 Super Kid $2,200 Hussonet Private Dear Clients

The Australian bloodstock industry is in a resurgent mood. Yearling sale prices are on the rise and breeding stock sales have followed suit. Record prices for Group winning colts off the track has lead to a bullish environment for service fees.

First season sires are in vogue for trainers, syndicators and owners and breeders are responding with many young sires being booked out within weeks.

How do we respond? How do we protect the integrity of our broodmare band whilst at the same time offering yearling buyers a young horse that they can on-sell?

Securing Hussonet in 2011, and Good Journey three years earlier, signalled our move towards proven stallions. We decided to offer bloodlines that would leave a legacy for our clients broodmare bands, but most importantly we wanted to breed horses that would win races.

This is a long term strategy. One where short term profit takes a back seat to building relationships that last well beyond the yearling sales.

Offering proven stallions such as Dalakhani and now Zebedee on behalf of some of the most respected breeders in the world is something that we are immensely proud of. Their race track results in the past twelve months are as good as any stallions, at an equivalent fee, anywhere in the world.

Zebedee’s inclusion to our roster in 2015 adds two crucial ingredients for Australian racing.... speed and precocity. His first and second season results are outstanding.

Speaking of quality, Good Journey currently has the best stakes winners to runners strike rate of any sire in . At a fee of only $8,800 inc. GST it is worth considering sending your mare for a holiday to the Barossa Valley.

Not many mares around the world have three Group performed sire sons at Stud but that is what can be said of Hunter Valley Broodmare of the Year, Dextrous, the dam of Ambidexter. With Skilled at Northwood Park and Sidestep now standing at Kelvinside this is one Darley dynasty that we are excited to be a part of.

Are we on the right track? It would be presumptuous to suggest that anything other than time will tell however the very warm reception our roster is receiving from clients this season, has reassured us that we are not at all alone in our thinking.

Enjoy learning more about our roster of top quality stallions from some of the most respected studs in the world.

Best Regards,

Sam Hayes Dalakhani (IRE) Grey, 2000, 16.1hh

“He has got to be an outstanding horse, as a two- year-old, as a three-year-old and over all distances and all goings. He has speed, he has stamina. He has everything..... He is a beautiful mover..... This horse possesses a concentration of unusual talents..... That is what gives him the ability to accelerate when he needs to accelerate, to follow a pace when he needs to do that, and to handle all goings equally..... Breeding is the basis of what my family has been doing for generations and this win puts him among the best.” His Highness the Aga Khan (Following Dalakhani’s victory on his final start in the Group One Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe)

“Of all the greats I have trained for His Highness, Dalakhani is the most complete racehorse. He has all the qualities - he has speed, he stays and he always relaxes perfectly.” Alain de Royer Dupré (Trainer) HARDIEMMA ABDOS DELSY KELTY

“We knew back in March that ZEBEDEE was going to be our first winner on the turf this season – he was that precocious... he has never stopped improving and has only been beaten once in seven races. The success of Australia’s leading young sire, I AM INVINCIBLE, points to a successful future for the GREEN DESERT/ INVINCIBLE IVAWOOD SPIRIT bloodlines in Australia. What mares suit ZEBEDEE best?

Zebedee’s best performer Ivawood and other first-crop winners, suggests mares from RED RANSOM and ROBERTO lines suit. Other mares from that line include those by KRIS S, SILVER HAWK, ROBELLINO, DYNAFORMER, ARCH and BROCCO. NUREYEV and his sons work well with Invincible Spirit and sons. Mares by PIVOTAL, FASLIYEV, GOOD JOURNEY, STRAVINSKY, and SPINNING WORLD will suit Zebedee. DANEHILL line mares by FASTNET ROCK, EXCEED AND EXCEL, FLYING SPUR, REDOUTE’S CHOICE, DANEHILL DANCER, CHOISIR, etc. should be kept in mind. Inbreeding to DANZIG is working well with Zebedee and I Am Invincible, sire of Brazen Beau who is out of a mare by DANZIG’s son SNAADEE. Mares by other sons of DANZIG to consider are those by ANABAA, BELONG TO ME, LANGFUHR, PERUGINO, LURE, BERTOLINI, BIANCONI, POLISH PRECEDENT, etc. Zebedee is also the sire of a stakes performer out of a mare by Danzig’s grandson GRAND LODGE (by CHIEF’S CROWN). Zebedee is also the sire of a stakes performer out of a mare by SHAMARDAL. Mares by his sire GIANT’S CAUSEWAY and those with lines to STORM CAT and STORM BIRD such as mares by HENNESSY (and son JOHANNESBURG), HIGH YIELD, Invincible Spirit TALE OF THE CAT, STATUE OF LIBERTY, BLUEBIRD, DOLPHIN STREET, LAKE CONISTON, etc. should be considered. Sire of 10 Group 1 winners SADLER’S WELLS line mares work well with Invincible Spirit, so mares with lines to SCENIC, IN THE WINGS, , , BARATHEA, GALILEO, etc. should work. Triple G1 winning miler in 2014 Charm Spirit (by Invincible Spirit) is out of a , , , mare by MONTJEU. , YOSEI, , , VALE OF YORK Speaking of 2014 champions by Invincible Spirit, Kingman is out of a MR PROSPECTOR line mare by ZAMINDAR (by GONE WEST) so mares such as those by ZAFONIC and ELUSIVE QUALITY. Mr Prospector line mares have a phenomenal Sire of sires with 10 sons at overall record with Invincible Spirit and we strongly recommend mares by his sons such as KINGMAMBO (and sons DUBAI DESTINATION and KING’S BEST), MACHIAVELLIAN (and son STREET CRY), GULCH (and son THUNDER GULCH), stud inc: SEEKING THE GOLD (and son SECRET SAVINGS), FORTY NINER (and son END SWEEP), MISWAKI (and son UMATILLA), I AM INVINCIBLE – Australian Champion FUSAICHI PEGASUS, BELLOTTO as well as HUSSONET who is the damsire of a stakes performer by I Am Invincible. First Season Sire ZEBEDEE – European Champion First INDIAN RIDGE mares work with Invincible Spirit so consider mares with an AHONOORA line. Plenty of Invincible Spirit Season Sire stakes winners boast BLUSHING GROOM on their damside so worth consider mares by Moonlight Cloud’s damsire LAWMAN – Classic Winner, Classic Sire and RAINBOW QUEST, as well as mares by RAHY. KINGMAN – European Champion Miler, FUJI KISEKI is the damsire of Yosei so any mares with a line to HALO and SUNDAY SILENCE such as MORE THAN READY, retiring for 2015 SOUTHERN IMAGE, DON’T SAY HALO, KEEP THE FAITH, TAYASU TSUYOSHI and GENUINE should do well. CHARM SPIRIT – 3 time Group 1 winning miler, retiring for 2015 Invincible Spirit boasts a 92% winners to runners from DARSHAAN mares so any mares with SHIRLEY HEIGHTS and MILL REEF lines should be considered. NIJINSKY line mares such as those by ROYAL ACADEMY and CAERLEON as well as their sons BEL ESPRIT and BLETCHLEY PARK. Cozzene I Am Invincible is out of a CANNY LAD mare so that cross will be very attractive to many looking to reproduce that. Brazen Broodmare Sire of Beau is out of a mare bred on a Danzig cross with BLETCHINGLY, it would be well worth considering any Danzig line mares that have Bletchingly on their own damside. Another multiple Australian Group winner by Invincible Spirit, Spirit 87 stakes-winners and Song, is out of a mare bred on a KINGSTON RULE / MILITARY PLUME cross. 10 Group 1 winners inc: We also recommend putting LUNCHTIME line mares to Zebedee which brings in SNIPPETS mares (100% winners to PIVOTAL – Leading UK Sire runners with Invincible Spirit) and PINS. Mares from LAST TYCOON lines have good form with Invincible Spirit and the ISLA BONITA – Champion 3YO in Japan likes of mares by O’REILLY who is the damsire of a stakeswinner by I Am Invincible are likely to work with Zebedee. Given that his two Group 1 winners are by PERUGINO and FLYING SPUR, they suit, and there seems to be an obvious affinity with DANEHILL and DANZIG. Being by Perugino, TESTA ROSSA mares should also be considered, while sons of FLYING SPUR with young broodmares include; CASINO PRINCE and JET SPUR. Other DANEHILL line mares to consider are those by FASTNET ROCK, EXCEED AND EXCEL, REDOUTE’S CHOICE, GRIANTE COMMANDS, DANEHILL DANCER, CHOISIR, etc. Keep in mind CRAFTY CRUISER other sons of Danzig such as BIANCONI, BELONG TO ME, ANABAA, BERTOLINI, CHIEF’S CROWN, POLISH PRECEDENT, LANGFUHR, etc. Given that Perugino is a three-quarter brother to SADLER’S WELLS and FAIRY KING, mares by them and their sons also work well. Consider mares by ENCOSTA DE LAGO as his dam is a ½ sister to Flying Spur. Other mare to consider are those by the likes of BLEVIC, SCENIC, IN THE WINGS, GALILEO, MONTJEU, BARATHEA and . JIM’S JOURNEY Mares by O’REILLY or from a LAST TYCOON line nick very well, as do those with a line to BLETCHINGLY. Speaking of colonial LOTION sires, breeders with mares by STRATEGIC and another son of ZEDITAVE in MAGIC ALBERT should keep Good Journey in mind. Any mares with a line to Good Journey’s 4th dam, the great mare BEST IN SHOW, would create a terrific double cross if mated to him. Mares from NIJINSKY lines are also recommended, so check on mares by ROYAL ACADEMY and CAERLEON and any by their HAPPY TRAILS sons. Mares by sons and grandsons of HALO, such as SUNDAY SILENCE, MORE THAN READY and SOUTHERN IMAGE. With success within Good Journey’s female side when bred to MR PROSPECTOR and his sons, sires by him such as HUSSONET, GONE WEST, KINGMAMBO, MACHIAVELLIAN, SECRET SAVINGS, etc. Another line to pay attention to is that of DEPUTY MINISTER and mares by his son DEHERE. While also to the fore in 2015 have been mares by JEUNE visiting Good Journey, so it may pay to consider mares from other KALAMOUN/KENMARE lines. “Breeders that see him will want to send mares. Attracting stallions of this quality is a credit to Cornerstone Stud and we are already looking forward to selling yearlings by Ambidexter at the Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale. If they look anything like him, they will be popular.” Adrian Hancock Bloodstock Agent & Magic Millions Representative
