Esther McIntosh and Dr Sharon Jagger Executive Summary This project was funded by the Church Universities Fund and York St John University; it sought out and listened to the views of trans1 and non-binary students and staff, chaplains from Anglican Foundation universities, and two prominent trans priests in the Church of England. Interviews provided a set of rich narratives focussed on the lived experiences of trans and non-binary folk on university campuses and in church environments. Chaplains provided details regarding their current knowledge and practices, and the potential for developing their support to trans and non-binary staff and students. All the recommendations in this report are underpinned by the principles of amplifying and listening to trans and non-binary voices, and we suggest chaplains build an iterative listening process into their work to ensure trans and non-binary people define what support they would like and how it can be delivered effectively. A significant theme we set out to explore is how chaplains help Christian trans and non- binary people negotiate their faith in the face of ambivalent and ambiguous messages circulating within the media and the Church of England. Revd Dr Rachel Mann and Revd Dr Christina Beardsley discussed the current Church climate, the debates around provision of a liturgical welcome for trans people and the factionalised atmosphere that creates polarising arguments. Chaplains often signpost trans and non-binary students and staff to local churches that are considered inclusive and welcoming, whilst recognising that individuals within churches can compromise the belonging of trans and non-binary people even in officially welcoming churches. Our discussion extends to campus-based faith groups some of which are perceived to be conservative in theology and doctrine, creating barriers to trans and non-binary Christians. Feminists of diverse cultural backgrounds have developed theoretical models which articulate their respective standpoints in relation to the sexism of their racial/ethnic groups on the one hand, and what has been termed “mainstream” or “white” feminism on the other. This is not the case when it comes to multicultural and ethnographic research regarding Jewish women, notwithstanding the involvement of many Jewish women in the feminist movement generally, including as leading theorists. Would a body of scholarship which examines Jewish women’s experiences from this dual perspective uncover a distinct theoretical model? How would such a “feminist Jewish women’s standpoint” address their concerns within the Jewish world as well as within the world of mainstream feminism – such as expressions within the mainstream women’s movement that pertain to Jewish issues or Israel? In examining the possible origins of the existing asymmetry, as well as its implications, this paper explores the possibility of adding new dimensions to understanding of multicultural feminism, identity studies and the study of Jewish identity.

Compulsive sexual behaviours otherwise known as Hypersexuality/problematic sexual behaviour and is identified by a persistent pattern of failure to control repetitive, intense urges, fantasies and behaviours of a sexual nature over an extended period of time that causes marked impairment in multiple areas of functioning, in this case, especially educational functioning. Phobic anxiety disorders also known as social phobias are a group of conditions in which anxiety is triggered typically in well- defined situations that are not currently dangerous with resulting avoidance of such situations. Nevertheless, CSB is not captured in DSM V and ICD10, although, diagnostic criteria were proposed during DSM V revision, it is not currently recognized in the DSMV. Although, CSB has been proposed for inclusion in ICD 11 as an impulse control disorder, rather than as a mental and behavioural disorder as previously debated, in addition, strict diagnostic guidelines were instituted due to concerns of over pathologizing sexual behaviours. This presents a diagnostic and treatment dilemma for the psychiatrist when a patient presents with symptoms of Compulsive sexual behaviours with or without anxiety, since there are presently no diagnostic and treatment guidelines.

    St Nicholas News – November/December 2020 - £1 Rachel Writes The past seven months have changed many things. Life here at St Nick’s has not escaped those changes. As I hope you are aware, this month’s magazine is going to be the last. Over the past few months we have found that using a weekly newsletter, with regular ‘thoughts for the week’, from the team has provided more flexibility than a parish magazine. As we travel towards the new year, now seems the time to act and put our venerable magazine ‘to bed’. I know some will mourn the magazine’s passing, but the PCC are right in my view to think it is right to call time on it. The ‘closing’ of the magazine strikes me as a good opportunity to look back. So much has shifted in our life together over the past twelve years since I joined you. Leaving aside the seismic shifts generated by the pandemic, I think we’ve witnessed a congregation that has grown in confidence and focus. Certainly, the profile of the congregation has changed. So many friends have gone to glory and we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Many of those friends were long-term members of the congregations who had memories of Burnage stretching back decades. Our current congregation includes a good spread of ages, but the profile of our congregation is even richer than it was when I first came. I think there is greater confidence about how we do mission too. That is, I think there is real confidence about how we serve our local community and invite them into the life of Christ.
