King of Kings

he Church celebrates annually the Feast of Christ the King, or the Feast of the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus TChrist, King of the Universe. This year this Feast falls on Sunday 22 November. The Feast of Christ the King is a Feast of the highest rank and is the culmination of the Church’s liturgical year—a glorious celebration honouring the Lord who reigns in our lives. The Feast is celebrated one week before the First Sunday of Advent, which begins the weeks of preparation for Christmas. The word “king” is used symbolically to signify someone who possesses supreme power. Pope Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King in 1925 and in 1969, Pope Paul VI gave the celebration a new title “ Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.” The meaning is clear: all of creation, in this world and beyond, is subject to Christ. No one, and nothing, is greater.

Christ is King, but not the kind of king we might imagine or expect. Even though we celebrate Jesus as king, we must recognize that He is not a king according to the ways of the world. Jesus himself said that the kingdom of God is not something visible. “The kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’. For, in fact, the kingdom of God is among you.” (Luke 17:21)

As Catholics, we’ve been recognizing Christ as our King for God’s ways permeate our ways, God’s thoughts become over 2,000 years. The Kingdom of God is a space. It exists in our thoughts, and this way leads to the fullness of life, every home where we adults, parents or children pray in front peace in this world, and peace forever in the reign of of the altar, or receive a sacrament. The Kingdom of God is a God. All our power, strength, hope, and direction come time. It happens whenever someone feeds a hungry person, from Him. Therefore, we make this King our first or shelters a homeless person, or shows care to a neglected priority in all things, and we look upon Jesus Christ as person. The Kingdom of God is a condition. Its symptoms are both the beginning and end of our existence. Christ is love, justice, and peace. Christ himself said “that his kingdom the ‘Alpha and the Omega’. These are the first and last “is not of this world”. When Jesus is called “King of Kings,” letters of the Greek alphabet, a quality attributed to God it means that, in the end, all other rulers will be conquered or as the originator of all things, the one who spans the abolished, and He alone will reign supreme as King and Lord beginning and end of time and is outside of time. of all the earth. There is no power, no king, and no lord who Our Holy Father tells us that Christ’s kingdom is present can oppose Him and win. To quote Pope Benedict XVI “The wherever he is loved and wherever his love reaches “power” of Jesus Christ the King is not the power of the kings us. He said the end goal of history will be fulfilled in or the great people of this world; it is the divine power to give Christ’s eternal kingdom. The Feast of Christ the King, eternal life, to liberate from evil, to defeat the dominion of helps us to focus on the magnificence of God. The Feast death. It is the power of Love that can draw good from evil, of Christ the King is a day to celebrate and remember that can melt a hardened heart, bring peace amid the harshest that Christ, lives and reigns and that He is the Lord of conflict and kindle hope in the thickest darkness”. the Universe. All of us and everything that lives is kept Pope Pius XI said that “Men must look for the peace of Christ in existence only through Him. in the Kingdom of Christ, a kingdom of truth and life, a “Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come; thy will be kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and done.” peace.”

Poulose Mangai, SJ Fratelli Tutti: A Call to Universal Fraternity

ope Francis has given to the Church and the world a new encyclical letter. He signed it in Assisi at the tomb Pof St. Francis on October 3, the eve of the saint’s feast. The title of the encyclical is Fratelli Tutti, an Italian expression meaning “brothers all”. Francis of Assisi used this expression to address his brothers. Fratelli Tutti is the third encyclical of Pope Francis: the other two are Lumen Fidei (2013) and Laudato Si’ (2015). Both Laudato Si’ and Fratelli Tutti are social encyclicals.

The theme of Fratelli Tutti is “Universal Fraternity and Social Friendship”. In the encyclical the pope highlights that fraternal love must be universal, embracing whole humanity. If It is not only individuals who are called to we want to cultivate universal fraternity and social friendship, be Good Samaritans. November 2020 11 Poem & Reflections

It is a new unique time… Sr. Sukirtha Kulandai Presentation Sisters Rohtak Parish.

It was a new change that gripped the entire world to be still It was a new covid-19 that brought all to stay home It was a new strange need to come to terms with the loneliness and solititude It was a new opportunity to explore and be thankful for what it means to be alive It was a new peaceful time to experience the Eucharistic Lord present in my life It was a new desire to pray and meditate longer It was a new zeal to use the inner power to make a new choice It was a new awakening to create new ways to live and cope It was a new thought that life is with unexpected transitions It was a new motivation to read books It was a new renewed determination to exercise and to rest It was a new fortune to stimulate inspiration to make art from within It was a new deep calling to listen more deeply and compassionately It was a new courageous time to meet my shadows and enter into my deepest emotions It was a new time to release life’s heaviness through dance and laughter It was a new approach to modern technology for virtual learning and communication It was a new profound time to mold a meaning out of the difficult & the wonderful times in my life It was a new challenging time where the inner voice called me to think differently

Best of all, now…

It is a new unique time in the history to enter into a new normal!!!!

12 The Voice of Delhi A New Twist to a New Normal Sr. Sukirtha Kulandai Presentation Sisters Rohtak Parish.

In August 2019, when I left for Ireland everything was “Normal”. But in March 2020 everything got changed. “Normal” was never the same. Covid – 19 has altered the look and feel of cities, locally & globally. I recall my return journey from Ireland to India on 8th of August 2020. I traveled through three international Airports namely, Dublin, Paris and New Delhi. In these Airports, I had seen, heard and experienced a “new normal” which is shown in the picture. During this journey and institutional quarantine I reflected from a totally different angle on these new normal catchphrases which I would like to narrate briefly with a new twist. Namely,

Physical/Social distancing Sanitize your hands Wear a mask Test, trace and treat Self-isolation/ Quarantine Stay safe, Stay home

1. Physical/Social distancing: I heard all of them speaking about social distancing which can be misunderstood as making a social distancing from poor and needy or not engaging in relationships and communication. The better word would have been physical distancing; keeping distance of 3m & 6m between persons. Jesus always told us to be socially involved for the betterment of the brotheren. 2. Sanitize your hands: “Sanitize your hands” has become the slogan of the day. As I reflected, along with this outer sanitization we all are in need of inner sanitization. We need to sanitize our heart, mind and soul. Jesus said what goes in doesn’t defile us but what comes out from our heart may defile us and others. 3. Wear a mask: We are instructed to wear a face mask and it is obediently done by all of us. But I feel that many a times we also wear masks to pretend or project ourselves in a public sphere. And I remember St.Paul’s words; clothe yourself with love & kindness. 4. Test, trace and treat: World Health Organization has developed this scientific methodology to eradicate Coronavirus. Test, trace and treat can become a beautiful life principle where we can test, trace and treat our talents, qualities & hobbies. As Jesus said, be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect. 5. Self-isolation/Quarantine: For symptomatic and asymptomatic, doctors had advised self-isolation and quarantine. The root meaning of the word Quarantine leads us towards a self-introspection, self-awareness and self-realization. Jesus by his 40 days of quarantine prepared himself for his missionary work. 6. Stay safe, Stay home: “Stay safe, Stay home” is used during this pandemic time. But in reality this has to be our life motto where socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and psychologically we are in need of holistic growth. Being at home with oneself can lead you to personal growth. In Acts of the Apostles we read, Mary and the disciples of Jesus remained in the upper room and received the Holy Spirit. In conclusion, all these “new normal” has become part and parcel of our daily life. I hope my twist to these new normal may be an eye-opener to all of us. Stay safe and stay home.

18 The Voice of Delhi february 2017 19 The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Parish Feast of Cathedral Fr Arokiya

th September, 2020 was a joyful day for the parishioners of the Sacred Heart Cathedral 27as we celebrated the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our parish feast. The Sacred Heart is a powerful reminder of the Love of Christ for all of us. We also celebrated the ‘World Day of Migrants and Refugees’. The message of the Holy Father Pope Francis on this occasion is titled as, “Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee”. It was a day for us to express our concern and care for the vulnerable people on the move and we prayed for them in a special way during our Feast Mass.

The solemn Eucharist was celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Anil J. T. Couto and was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Lawrence P. R, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza and the assistant parish priests reverend fathers: Britto, Shinil and Arokiya at 9 am. Archbishop in his homily reminded us the words of Pope Francis: It is more difficult to let God love us than to love Him! The best way to love Him in return is to open our hearts and let Him love us.” He also exhorted us to surrender our lives and offer the present pandemic challenges to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the Mass there was prize distribution for the students who scored good marks in their 10th and 12th std and to the catechism children who won prizes in diocesan level competitions and also to those who won prizes in the online competitions organized on the occasion of parish feast. It was indeed a memorable celebration for all of us.

18 The Voice of Delhi february 2017 19 Chrism Mass R. Nihal Pedric

he Chrism Mass is a special Mass Tof unity in which the priests renew their pledge of obedience to the bishop and loyalty to the universal Church. This year the Chrism mass which was to take place on 7th April during Holy Week could not happen due to lockdown. Therefore, the Chrism Mass at Cathedral was celebrated on 15th October, 2020 which was presided over by His Grace Archbishop Anil. Many priests of the Delhi Archdiocese, Religious and Laity could not attend the Chrism mass this year due to the protocal though everyone wanted to be present for the celebration. During his introduction, Archbishop remembered Fr. Joe Thomas, Fr. Augustine Kuriapilly and Fr.Cirilo F. Rodrigues who have Passed away into eternity recently. Archbishop called upon all the Priests to thank God for the gift of the priesthood. During the homily, Archbishop said that we are here to thank God for the gift of our priesthood which is always a gift, never earned by us. Always God’s graciousness is at work. It is God’s goodness to choose us and to appoint us as His Ministers of the world and the Sacraments. So we thank God today for this undeserved gift that comes to us from God to serve the Church and Humanity. During the Eucharistic celebrations, the priests who were present renewed their vow of their obedience to the Bishops. During the service, the three holy oils(oil of catechumens, oil of the sick and sacred Chrism) were blessed for the use in administering various sacraments throughout the year. This may be the first timein the histroy of the Archdiocese of Delhi that the Cathedral Witnessed a Chrism mass without the participation of Religious and laity. However, it was indeed a memorable celebration for all those who were present for the service.

18 The Voice of Delhi february 2017 19 NARELA St. John Mary Vianney Church Parish Priest: Fr. Savari Raj Shepherd Visits Narela Missions Mukta th September 2020, was very special day for the parishioners 20of St. John Mary Vianney church because His Grace Most Rev. Anil J.T Couto, the Archbishop of Delhi visited our parish. It was indeed a joyous day and we celebrated in advance the birthday of our beloved Archbishop two days before of his birthday. The main purpose of his visiting was explained through introduction by Ms. Mukta. It was his love for the parishioners archbishop came to meet us, to know about the activities of the church and the schools, Rosary School, Narela and Rosary Sr. Sec. School, Kheri Manajat and the Rosary Bhawan (Convent). Archbishop was welcomed with bouquet of flowers by Mr. Henry, the secretary of the parish council. The Eucharistic Mass was presided over by His Grace Anil J.T Couto along with the parish priest Rev. Fr. Savariraj. The Archbishop gave an inspiring homily about the prodigal son and also emphasized that God has given us different gifts to each one of us. Therefore we should respect and not murmur or grumble when others do well rather we should feel happy for them.

The mass was offered especially for three intentions.

1. We prayed to God for the schools and offered them as a symbol of flowers. There are many symbols of flowers like love, peace, truth, justice, progress, success, happiness etc. As sweet fragrance of flowers spread everywhere and in the same way our two schools may flourish and progress day by day. These two schools may become the main centre of education for the people of this locality so that every student studying here gets quality education, knowledge, wisdom, love and success. Thus all may have bright future.

2. The birthday of Archbishop falls on 22nd September. We prayed and offered his life to God as a symbol of candle. As a candle consumes itself to light the way for others and it also dispels the darkness. Likewise may his life be always enlightened with the divine light. Each rays of His divine light may reach to the heart of the people and give life to many more people.

3. We prayed for the departed soul of late Mrs. Ernestina Couto, mother of archbishop as symbol of incense. As incense is a symbol of the prayer of the faithful rising to heaven. May her soul rest in peace and enjoy the eternal bliss with the saints and the angels in heaven. We also prayed to God for comfort to His Grace archbishop and his family and strengthen them at this time of grief.

The choir with their melodious voice led the congregation in the spirit of prayer under the guidance of Sr. Wilma. Soon after the mass, there was a cake cutting ceremony. Youth sang birthday song and expressed their love and affection. We wished our beloved archbishop long life and many fruitful years of ministry. May God bless him with good health. The memorable celebration will be cherished by the parishioners and will remain forever. The day’s liturgy for the mass was organized under the able guidance of Sr. Saguntala, the superior of Servite Sisters.

After the Eucharistic celebration, Archbishop Visited Rosary School, Narela, Rosary Sr Sec School, Kheri Manajat, Rosary Bhawan (Convent) and land at Jakholi.

Withoutthread it can’t remainas one rosary. So thread is symbol of unity. In Rosary School principal, headmistress, staff and students together make one family. We all need to work with unity. We should be united in our purpose and goal. Beads teach us teamwork. All the rosarians are like beads. Everybody has one or the other quality. If we all work as team for school, then our school will be the best school. Cross is like plus sign and symbol of positivity and hope. We should be positive in our thinking, words and action. It will make a difference during the time of difficulty and problems.

28 The Voice of Delhi Online Teaching- Learning Experience P. Antony

Teachers are the next level of COVID-19 warriors, fighting for the nation and shaping the future of tomorrow.

aving been in the education sector for the past 8 years, today, I find taking online classes a great challenge. In spite of the availability of the content, its application, how to use it and deliver it to the students in the right manner is Hthe ordeal. Obviously, teachers miss the ecstatic feelings of teaching in the classroom. when a teacher is with students in the school, it really makes a lot of difference, the teaching-learning process becomes much easier, and delighted. In online classes, however, the physical presence of teachers is very much neglected.

We are still not aware as to when things will be back to normal. Therefore, instead of leaving everything to the future, teachers have taken the plan-ahead, keeping one thing in mind — that learning should not stop. The virtual online classes have proved to be helpful in these difficult times. Teaching and learning in this atmosphere has also proven to be extremely challenging. Most of us have had to adapt to technology that we were not familiar with, overnight. As a result, the working hours have increased. Our phones never seem to stop buzzing. Earlier, teachers and students were not so familiar with online teaching and learning at the school level, except for the computer lectures. Now, along with teachers, every profession has chosen the virtual platform, providing precious opportunities to both new students and teachers.

Advantages of online teaching and learning:

Flexible in teaching and learning: The biggest advantage of an online teaching and learning is that we can teach or learn at any time we want. Online teaching and learning gives us the flexibility to spend time with work, family, friends, significant others or any other activity we like.

Individualized teaching and learning: when teachers teach or students learn in online, have more opportunity to adjust how they teach or learn based on their preferences and tendencies

Wide scope for knowledge: online teaching and learning provides a wide scope for teachers and students to harness their strengths by letting them explore the world of technology. The disadvantages of online teaching and learning: 1. Teachers and students are unable to have a direct interaction with one another. 2. The absence of school environment is very much felt. 3. The workload is increased for the teachers and students. 4. The continuous usage of gadgets harms the teachers and students mentally and physically. 5. Students are prone to misuse the internet.

The pandemic has radically changed the concept of traditional education in the past few months. Although, there are some difficulties, the virtual learning will be the new future of education. There appears to be no dearth of online resources of academic value. Therefore, online teaching is more an opportunity than a challenge for teachers and students today.

Mrs. Seema Rani

osary Sr. Sec. School, Kheri Manajat celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Rosary on October Rth 7 along with Rosary School, Narela. The chief guest for the festivity was Rev. Fr. Jose T.J the Manager of St.Mary’s Sr Sec School, Mayur Vihar.

The program commenced with the offering candles to Mother Mary as a symbol of lighting up each one’s life. The guest was warmly welcomed through a welcome dance performed by our teachers.

Dance is a form by which we can express our feelings without speaking. A dance was dedicated to mother Mary manifesting our infinite gratitude towards her. A play was presented with combined efforts of Rosary staff and students which was really an incredible one. It made a deep impact on us by showing how a child too can change or teach others. Every movements of our life teaches us something or gives us experiences. We must learn to accept all the lessons. The play portrays that humanity wins over all religions. It doesn’t depend on religions or the position one’s has in the society, it’s always humanity that matters.

The play was followed by a dance which iimmensly instructed us to be faithful children, God fearing and love one another. We the Rosarians promise to be more charitable and generous towards the needy. Therfore, we established a scholarship. This gives us pleasure and great pride. Our chief guest Fr. Jose T.J enlightened us with his words of wisdom on Rosary. The Rosary is made up of three things. The thread represents the unity and beats illustrate that every individual who works in Rosary school and the Cross confirms the energy that gives hope to work together by being united for the school to take it to its new height. We should strive to inculcate in us the values which are taught us in our life. Let us be ever ready to dedicate ourselves for the sake of the society and let us detach ourselves from selfishness, greed and jealous.

We also believe that a great success begins with single effect. Rosarians, together we shine and grow. We have the confidence to reach our goal by taking constant effects and we always remember that“A Journey of miles begins with a single step”

Fit India Movement Mrs. Renu Maharjan

it India Movement is a nation- wide campaign that aims in Fencouraging people to include physical activities and sports in their everyday lives. Sahoday Senior Secondary School actively participated in this campaign on 1 and 2 October 2020. Great enthusiasm was seen not only in students but also in teachers who energetically ran for this campaign. Almost 150 students of our school ran and took part in this movement. It was a good break from the busy hectic schedule where students got excited for this activity. Teachers also played a vital role in encouraging and appreciating the students. It was a successful event, and we all were glad to see such a great response.

Students were able to download their participation certificates instantly which inspired other students also to take part in this campaign. This campaign would not have been possible without the help, advice and support of our Manager Rev. Fr. James Peter Raj and our Principal Rev. Sr. Joyce.

This unique endeavour motivated our students to take up fitness and healthy living as an important part of their living. Students were advised to practice some fitness activity especially in this pandemic which will help them to remain healthy and will increase their immunity.

November 2020 31 SCHOOL SNIPPETS NOVEMBER 2020 The First Webinar of Sahoday Sr. Sec. School Ms Deepika Delvenia George arents and the School are the two foundation pillars of any child’s life. Considering the current situation, Sahoday Senior PSecondary School, Hauz-Khas, Delhi conducted its first webinar with the parents, teachers and the students on the topic “Public Health response to Covid-19: Appropriate behaviour,” on 14 October 2020 at 6pm. The response was stunning indeed, with more than 1100 attendees. It only went on to prove beyond any doubt that we, along with the support of our parents, can do a lot for the betterment of the school and for our children. Our Manager, Rev. Fr. James Peter Raj, began the prayer with the verse from Bible: Phil 4:6-7: “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray for everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.” He remembered the staff and students and their families, in his prayer especially the people who is suffering from Covid-19. He also offered all the teachers, parents and students to God’s providence invoking God’s blessings upon everyone so that they realize the importance of education and guide the students especially these days of online classes. He asked God to stretch his powerful hands and free the world from this terrible pandemic. Our Principal Rev. Sr. Joyce Fernandes addressed the parents, teachers and students with empathy and care, concerning the existing situations of uncertainty and assured them that the school will provide all the necessary support and assistance to help our students. Truly, we all understand that some of the parents are facing difficult times in this present situation. She gave a meaningful message enlightening how one needs to face this difficult time courageously seeking the help of God and trusting in Him completely. The speakers of this event shared their views on the necessary steps to be taken to create awareness among people during this pandemic with the help of a very captivating power point presentation containing almost 50 slides. An important concern for this webinar was to make others know than before that we are not free from Covid-19 after unlocking and that the virus is spreading more after the lockdown. As a result, we all should be responsible citizens carrying out our duties and at the same time to be prudent and have concern for others. The powerful weapons which can help us fight against Covid-19 are the use of proper masks, washing hands with soap and water, using sanitizers, avoiding crowded places, practicing social distancing, encouraging online payments, taking all the precautionary steps while visiting religious places and keeping in mind the upcoming festivals were creatively explained to all the participants with the help of power point presentation. “Fitness is not being better than someone else, it is about being better than you used to be.” Keeping this in mind all the important Ayush measures which will help us in increasing our immunity were deeply elucidated to all the attendees asking them to focus on their health and to increase their immunity. Our students are precious to us and their safety is the upmost priority in Sahoday. Parents’ main concern was whether it would be safe for them to send their children back to school. However, parents were told the effective measures which will be implemented by our school when it reopens, keeping in mind that it will never do anything that would harm our children and above all the prior permission of the parents will be required for the same. “There is a positive side to everything, and one should train one’s mind to see good in everything.” The positive impact of Covid-19 was highlighted, i.e., we learnt how to value our health, family, work etc., and to spend a quality time with our family, enjoy home-cooked healthy food and break from the hectic schedule. This event was successful mainly because of the constant support and guidance of our Manager and Principal. It is because of them we get encouraged to do better always. We are blessed to have such supportive parents too, and the response of the webinar was so marvellous that we are motivated to carry out such events in future as well. The webinar concluded with the beautiful quote: To the world you may be someone but for your family and loved ones you are their world. Therefore, we should not put our lives and the lives of others in danger. So, stay home, stay safe, stay sound.

34 The Voice of Delhi World Mental Health Day 2020

he Mental Health Awareness Week was celebrated by the students of St. Michael’s Sr. Sec. School, Pusa Road, T th New Delhi which culminated on 10 October to mark the celebration of World Mental Health Day. The teachers, in order to draw attention of primary children towards this important issue, conducted a VirtualStorytellingSession.

Despite being at the age that’s often called ‘carefree’, children today are not protected from the burdens of fear of future, difficulties of studies, stress of marks, cut throat competitive surroundings, peer pressure and expectations of the parents. This lays ground for anxiety even among small children. The stories shared by the teachers were relatable for the children as they too, often, face similar situations. For instance, one of them narrated how they often have inferiority complex which makes them repulsive to common joys of life. This complexity can be due to any of the reasons- being differently abled, colour of our skin, our talents and abilities, our academic performance, our language speaking abilities, etc. However, these storytelling videos helped students understand how light and darkness are part of their lives. If there is stress, there are plentiful other reasons to be happy and grateful about. We should not retreat in isolation when faced with difficulties, rather we should share it with our parents, friends and teachers. For instance, even though the pandemic created many problems for everyone as we were isolated in our homes but looking at the silver lining, we know how everyone can spend quality time with their families.

This session was successful as this idea was well explained by teachers and students enthusiasticallyresponded. This was a very interactive session for all classes. Children reciprocated by sharingtheir feelings and fears and at the same time they agreed that they understood these stories. They were determined to overcome their anxieties by being positive and having a high lifecondition despite all odds.

They truly imbibed the lesson that “when it rains, look for rainbows, when it’s dark, look at the stars.”

36 The Voice of Delhi Inter – Religious Prayer Assembly Anushka Bhatt

he word ‘peace’ is often defined as the freedom from any sort of disturbance Tor, at times, as the absence of hostility and ferocity between individuals or a group of individuals. Every individual can be an oasis of serenity amidst all the darkness and hardships. We all can live a blissful life by balancing our mind, body and soul and a collective responsibility to maintain tranquillity in our society.

The St. Mary’s family observed the International Peace and Non-violence day through an inter- faith prayer assembly on October 2nd, 2020 which was aired on our YouTube channel E- Marians.

Gandhi Jayanti is also celebrated on 2 October every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation. The principles of unity and resistance propagated by Gandhiji, the engineer of several successful nationalist movements that ultimately led to India’s independence, are hailed on this day. His multifarious and dynamic personality was based on truth and non – violence.

The prayer assembly consisted of readings from the various Holy Scriptures which was then followed by a short reflection on peace. A number of ideas, quotes by eminent personalities and religious people were shared and pondered upon. Hymns were sung and beautiful prayer dances were performed to bestow god’s blessings upon us all.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Sabu Joseph, Director for Education- Archdiocese of Delhi also shared his views on how to practice peace and non- violence. A beautiful rendition on the words of St. Francis of Assisi- ‘Make me a Channel of you peace’ was presented, expressing the notions of peace and tranquillity in the world.

Our Principal Rev. Sr. Merlin encouraged us all to be ambassadors of peace by understanding and supporting the truth always just as Gandhiji did. The main purpose of the assembly was to encourage everyone to spread compassion, kindness and hope in this pandemic situation.

virtual retreat was organised by St. Mary's Sr. Sec. School, Mayur Vihar Afor classes 6-12 on the 9th and 10th of October, 2020. A team from the Commission of Evangelization consisting of Mr. Mathew, Ms Bernadette Morris and Mr. Ashish John Kerketta took a 2 hour session on both days.

On 9th October, the retreat began with melodious prayer songs sung by Ms. Bernadette Morris, invoking God's spirit upon each one of us. We were then lead by Br. Mathew who told us different ways to experience the love of God and to never lose hope even during this pandemic. He narrated different life experiences of people whom he had met during his mission of evangelisation and stories to make us know the nature of God.

The whole experience was fulfilling as he made us aware of the importance of prayer in our daily lives and the significance of dedicating ourselves to God's care and protection. His words were influential, thought provoking and inspired us to always stay connected and hopeful in the Lord.

On 10th October, the attention of the students of classes 6-8 was captured with the story of Gideon, taken from chapter 6 of the Book of Judges, both verbally and through an animated video. Gideon- a small, young man was called upon to save the people of Israel by leading them against the Midianites. Ms. Morris used this story to make us realise the plans that God has for each one of us. Our trust shouldn’t fade otherwise we will break. The retreat ended with prayer and songs of worship by Mr. Ashish.

We are grateful to our management, especially to our Principal Rev. Sr. Merlin for organising such a beautiful retreat and encouraging the students to get spiritually revived.

Campus Rendezvous 2020

“Make a ruckus! Live! Give yourselves to the best of life! Open the door of the cage, go out and fly!” –Pope Francis

The Campus Ministry of Jesus Youth Delhi organized a virtual program for the college fresher’s called “Campus Rendezvous’20” from 9th August to 16th August 2020, which is an annual event for campus students who are on the threshold of entering their campuses. This year owing to the restrictions it was conducted online and was a weeklong affair rather than a usual weekend plan. The program was themed “You are the now of God”.

There were 52 participants and 32 volunteers throughout the program. The participants were divided into 11 groups called ‘Buzz groups’ with 2-3 volunteers in each group. Here the participants got the exposure to interact with each other.

The program commenced with the launch day on 9th August which included fun filled ice breakers and action song. It was attended by Fr. Doyal Rodriguez OFM (Chaplain of Campus Ministry Delhi), who shared a few words of wisdom and blessed the program and the participants, Nikhil George (JY Delhi Coordinator), who encouraged the participants by sharing his experience, and Ashna Aplon (Coordinator, JY Delhi Campus Ministry), who spoke about how the program is going to be.

The second and third day were mainly focused on the topic, ‘Who am I?’, where it was discussed that our true identity lies in being a son/daughter of God and how at times due to various factors it becomes difficult for us to be our true selves. On the third day, discussions took place in the buzz groups wherein the participants and volunteers shared their experiences.

The fourth and fifth day focused on the topic, ‘Why should I?’ There was a talk show wherein the resources shared about how God had an amazing plan for their college life.

On the sixth day, there was a panel discussion on the topic, ‘How can I?’ The resources focused on how one can be authentic, reach out to others, prioritize, have a great time of fellowship and lead a life of witness in their college life.

On 16th August, the program concluded with a ‘Finale’, a joyous day filled with fun breakout room games and a lot of experience sharing. Even though this program has to come to an end, it is a start to a beautiful journey for these new campus ministers.
