Message from the Chair

by Michael Moore, PMS Chair 2003 has been a pretty good year. Pacifi c Masters put on some great events. We had our Short Course Yards, Long Course Meters and Short Course Meters Championships where we had great swimming conditions for our talented competitive swimmers. Local, national and world records were set by many Pacifi c Masters Swimmers.

But Pacifi c Masters is not just about competition, we have many clubs where swimmers just swim for the physical exercise for the intrinsic benefi ts brought on by swimming. By swimming you get a great cardiovascular workout, a good way to improve your health. With almost 10,000 members and over 100 clubs many people get the health benefi ts of swimming.

During this year, our coaches chairs have started a semi- regular meeting of our coaches where coaches can discuss what is going on in the clubs and how the coaches can better serve their swimmers.

There were also fi tness clinics to help the non-competitive swimmer improve his or her swimming ability.

The Pacifi c Masters Committee works hard to provide all these services to our members. Almost all of this is done by volunteers, people like you who take a couple of hours out of their very busy lives to help with the running of this organization. Like any organization we always need a some help.

I would like to invite you to the annual meeting of the Pacifi c Masters Swimming Committee meeting. It will be at the Oak Hill Park Community Center Danville, CA, November 19th. Come to the meeting and see how your committee runs.

The annual membership registration is in this newsletter. I would hope that you take a few minutes to rejoin Pacifi c Masters. It is your membership fee that allows Pacifi c Masters to do our work. The registration form is on the next page.

As we enter the holiday season, on behalf of the Pacifi c Masters Committee, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Chanukah, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
