The European Fund for Peace as an efficient instrument of cooperation

Trust funds are financing vehicles that the EU has used since 2013. They are used for development cooperation in situations that require significant support through a flexible, responsive mechanism that offers concrete results more quickly. They combine contributions from the EU budget, member states and other donors under a single management tool. The European Fund for Peace in Colombia was created in response to a request from the Government of Colombian for technical and financial support to implement the Peace Agreement signed between the Government and the FARC-EP. The EU was asked to provide this support due to the special role it was assigned an international companion to Point 1 of Integral Rural Development and Point 3 as regards the reintegration of ex-combatants.
