The p hysi cal, emoti onal, social and e ducat ion al welfare of the ch ildren at St Peter’s is of par amount importa nce and we have a du ty to safeguard this a ctively. T he scho ol will safeguard and promo te the welfare of ch ildren who are pupi ls at the sc hool having regard to:
• Keeping Children Safe In Ed ucation (KCSIE) (Sept 2016) • Disquali fication under the Childcare Act 2006 (Feb 2015) • What to do if y ou’re worried a ch ild is b eing abused (March 2015) • Working Together to Safe guard Children (2015) • Information Shar ing (March 2015) • Prevent Duty Gui dance (March 2015) • The Prevent Duty: Departmental a dvice for schools and childminders (June 2015) • The use of social media for on- line radic alisa tion (July 2015) and in accor dance with Devon LSCB pro cedures. This policy is ma de available to paren ts on the school web site and a copy is also av ailable on r eque st. The po licy ap plies to t he whole school, includ ing the Early Years Founda tion Stage (EYFS). Copies of the documen ts above are h eld in the sta ff area of our s chool network.
It is a requirem ent that all sta ff read K CSIE Par t 1.
At St Pete r’s we operate safer r ecruitment of staff procedures. T hese include DBS ch ecks and complia nce with the Indepen dent School Standards r egulatio ns.
The Chi ldren Act 1989 requir es all school staff to pass on concerns r elat ing to the welfare of the children in our care, s hou ld we feel that the child is at ri sk from abuse.
Claire S mith (SENCO and Director of Learn ing Succe ss) is the Desig nated Senior Lead (DSL). Charlotte Johnston (Head) is the d esignated Deputy DSL. The DSL also has specif ic respon sibi lity for safeguar ding children in the EYFS setting and lia sing with Devon LCS B. All DSLs h ave received traini ng in the ir ro le in Child Protect ion and interag ency working from Devon LA. D SLs attend refr esher cours es every two years. The entire sc hool sta ff and volunteers are updated annu all y.
